This is a place I come to chill in the early evenings. I want to avoid the noise and chaos that arrives after dark. Some familiar faces from the days when Duck Butt was more welcoming - which is natural since the owner here was a former longtime Duck Butt manager. Same mix of k-pop and urban hip hop. Same ritual of buying rounds. Here's a place where they know my name and what I drink. The food and drink offerings are still being built up. They don't pump out a lot of grinds but what they have is good with simple shots or flavored soju mixes. I have been here before and I had a great experience with the group I was with, but the difference seem to be that the group that I was with new people that worked at the restaurant. This time around, I brought new people with me thinking that I'd have a similar experience which couldn't be further from the truth. I called ahead for a reservation but when we walked in no one greeted me for a while and when I finally did get a table, we didn't get served even water for at least 20 minutes. When the water and soju that we ordered came they forgot shot glasses. Since I couldn't get anyone's attention, I went to the bar to get them. When we wanted to close mainly for the poor service, I had to ask three different people and then ultimately just went to the bar to close out. I understand that it was a busy night and it was after 10:00 PM on a Friday, so it could've been a long night for them. I think that if we were served better we would've ordered more and stayed longer. I don't think that I will be coming back here. Best place to hang out with friends and to celebrate something like birthdays! We went here for my friend's 21st birthday. All the staff were super nice and accommodating. We were sitting in the common area until we asked if there's any available karaoke rooms. We were put in one and if I remember correctly, it's $2 per song. Our server was very patient with us because we keep on asking how to operate the machine. Overall, it was a lot of fun. I think their food and drinks are priced well. This place has changed ownership so many times and also name changes as well and I've been to all of them! Lol the only thing is that the parking lot is not free to park any more! I swear the things people do to make money!! It used to be free but now you pay thru an app for parking. When had a party of 8 this night and the room that we got literally only fits 6 but you gotta squeeze every one to fit 8. I just wish we had gotten the bigger room. Haha but the machines are $2 per song and it sucks that if you switch from Korean to English the machine will eat your money! I feel like they need to change the machines so that you can just search all on one or you can interchange from English and Korean without the machines eating your money!! The food is good though and it has been good throughout the different ownership. I don't know if it is the same or different ownership but I mean with name change you would think it is. I finally got to try this place with a few of my friends. Parking is right behind Soju Bang in the lot behind. The entrance is literally right after Fabric Mart and a totally unassuming driveway since it can be really hard to miss. You may think you're turning into the building, but there's a driveway that leads to the lot in the back. It's also paid parking after 7:00 pm. You scan the QR code and pay for parking. I think it was only $4 for 6 hours, which was pretty decent. I read somewhere that the owner of Soju Bang was a long-time manager of Duck Butt, but don't quote me on that! It actually makes a lot of sense since they have the watermelon soju in a watermelon, karaoke rooms, and bomb soju flavors. It's a decent size inside, but it can accommodate larger parties. We didn't use any of the karaoke rooms, so if you're planning to come here for karaoke, be sure to make a reservation! I think I saw about 4 karaoke rooms, but I couldn't tell how large the rooms were. We got here around 7:45 pm ish on a Saturday. It was pretty slow at that time and picked up towards the end of the night. We didn't sit on a regular table but lower tables with stools. It was pretty uncomfortable sitting on the stools, especially if you were seated for a while. My party had about 5 people total, and my friends came about later, so it was nice that they let us hold onto the table while my friends showed up. There's a pretty good menu, and honestly, I came here more for food instead of just drinks, LOL. I ordered choke food before my friends came because I was hungry! I ordered: Grilled Pork Belly w/ Kimchi ($23), Tteokbokki with Cheese ($19), Regular Fried Rice ($16), and Garlic Fries ($13). My friends and I also shared a Watermelon Soju ($28) and the Ube Soju ($20). I preferred the Ube Soju, which had a nice Ube flavor. My favorite dish was actually the grilled pork belly. Everything was delicious! The Watermelon Soju was pretty strong at first, but it was tasting better as we drank more LOL. The food dishes had a nice portion to share and are sorta expensive, but it's pretty normal for bar food, honestly. I think total we may have spent about $168, but it also included a few other drinks as well. Service was good in the beginning since it was slower in the night. The servers kept checking on us and asking if we were doing okay, but the busier it got, the harder it got to get service, which was understandable. I think we left after 10 pm, and it was extremely packed inside. It was also super loud and not because of the music, I think in general it was just noisy from everyone talking. There were some pretty drunk people being super loud. Overall, I'd come here again and maybe try out a karaoke room. The food and drinks were tasty and the service wasn't bad! It wasn't hard to do it online but still annoying having to remember what time is when you're having fun. Food was good and good thing I read some reviews - the kimchee fried rice is chefs kiss. The garlic boneless chicken was pretty lit. What was not lit was the spicy mochi and the oden soup. Mochi could have used more spice and noodles were too cooked whilst the oden soup needed sodium. It was my first time here at soju bang and it was not the greatest first impression. The room we reserved did not have good air flow, so it was pretty warm in there. They did have a fan in the room, but it was broken and when we asked the server about it they already knew it was broken. Songs were $2/per and at one point the karaoke system rebooted itself, which took a good 5-8 minutes. Mind you, we are on a time limit. As far as the food, it was okay. We had the honey spicy boneless wings, garlic bacon cheese fries, fried mandoo, and the seafood pancake. I would definitely order the seafood pancake again. Came here on a Saturday night with family & friends to celebrate my older brother's early birthday (because he leaves before his birthday since he lives in SF). PARKING: THE parking isn't too big & it's behind the place WITH NO LIGHTS. so be careful. You do have to pay parking I belive after 6 or 7 pm & it was 4 hrs for $4-6. Not bad but it's just not a safe place to park. SERVICE: I like that they provided microphone covers for the mics but i still sanitized them myself.We did rent out 1 of the karaoke rooms. My brother reserved it. I think it was free but the catch was that the songs were $2 each. I feel like that's a bit. Duck butt is $1 a song. Keep in mind though that if you don't play another song right away, a random song is gonna play & use up your credits so watch out for that. You won't get credited. They tell you after it happens that you got to press stop right away for it not to use your credit. The soju was good but the food to be honest wasn't that good. We got the KALBI & to be honest it didn't test right. The SPICY HONEY WINGS was a big no. The taste was weird. The only one I liked was the SEAFOOD PANCAKE. That's was so good. Anyone wants soju!? This is a great place to have it. They offer Korean food, karaoke rooms for $2 a song, liquor, beer, and of course, soju. We went in on a Saturday night after a concert. It was around 1100 p.m. The place was full capacity. The 5 of us stood at the bar for 1 hour before actually sitting at the bar. The staff wasn't friendly, but one guy stood out. It was a local guy that acknowledge us. I can't remember his name, he is a bartender. Anyway as the night went on, we kept asking for a table as people would leave, but unfortunately, all the tables were reserved. We decided to stay at the bar for the rest of the night. We enjoyed the people who were minding their business and there was no trouble at all. We stayed because the ambience was just right and their drinks and soju was good, but pricey. We ordered about 8 sojus that night along with plates of food and shots. It was a great night besides the seating and unfriendly staff. Before I leave this message, I noticed they offered Dubai chocolate soju, if you are into that. They also have an actual watermelon and cantaloupe filled with soju to share with your group. We've waited and waited but none of the bartenders acknowledge us. Very disappointed. Went there on a Friday night, friends called in advance for a room for 8 people and they fitted us in the smallest room possible. It got super hot once everyone in my party arrived. When we called to reserve the room early that day we specifically inquired about to extend the room hour and they said not a problem. When our time was nearly up (half an hour prior) they kicked us out saying another party is coming. We were served by 2 different servers, Kai(?) Who were very helpful, and a pasty girl with tattoo between her boobs who had a bad attitude the whole time while taking our orders. She looked like she totally not wanted to be there and projected that directly on our party. I get it it was a Friday night and it was busy, but being in the service industry I'd imagine working at a karaoke bar you could handle yourself better. It's a bit odd with the doors completely blacked out but once you open them, you'd be welcomed to by the staff. Karaoke is $2 a song Parking in the back to be paid after 7p via the QR code $4.00 for 5hrs. Coming down Kalakaua Ave, make the left before fabric mart for the back parking lot. Food and drinks are reasonably priced with happy hour every day from 5-8p? Sign me up! Definitely try the brown sugar milk tea soju cocktail if you get the chance to go. Soju Bang is the new Korean karaoke bar in town! The owner is Cafe Duck Butt's chef, so no wonder I LOVE the tteokbokki. I could swim in that sauce! The main area is very clean. There are different seating options: a few 4 tops, two big tables, and two shorter tables. There are multiple TVs showing the demo karaoke vids but the music they play is a great mix of classic throwbacks like BSB to today's hits, and kpop mixed in. The TVs show that song count in the corner so I wonder if you can sing karaoke in the main room. There are 5 karaoke rooms. I'm not sure if the rooms are per hour or per song but they have the fun disco lighting in each. I need to find out their song selection soon. The staff are friendly and attentive. Happy hour is from 5-8, worth it! Back to the food. Like mentioned, the winner is the tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) with cheese. We also ordered the kimchi pancake. The taste is okay, but it's thinner than usual with smaller pieces of kimchi. The sauce that comes with it could use more sweetness or vinegar. Pro tip: dip the pancake in the tteokbokki sauce. Omg. The whole fried chicken is nice and juicy with enough seasoning without the salt that they give. The daikon they give on the side is the perfect mix of sweet and sour. The garlic edamame has a generous amount of freshly chopped garlic. The boneless wings are marinated so well--so saucy. The honey spicy one is more on the honey side; would love a bit more spice, but that's a preference. We also got the garlic one which I liked better. Their regular fried rice is okay. Could use more seasoning. The stir fried squid is okay, I've had better. They did give a good amount of squid. The mandoo is pan fried, nice and crispy outside. Juicy inside. It comes with 12 pieces.
