What a wonderful place! This is a little coffee shop inside the chocolate store. The coffee is crafted with heart by the very friendly owner Ramiro. Its delicious! There's cute seating and even puzzles and kids magnet tiles. My son and I had a lovely visit!

Thank you, Ramiro for delicious mocha and for sharing your passion and knowledge of coffee and chocolate with us. We learned so much and walked away appreciating the art of both coffee and chocolate making.

Came here randomly looking for coffee on the weekend. Adorable and charming and exactly what you think of when imagining a small homey cafe. Mismatched chairs, games, books. Small coffee cart with delicious espresso and they use real lonohana chocolate in their mochas. Had the dark chocolate one and it was perfect - not sickly sweet, just pure chocolate flavor and great coffee. The proprietor Ramiro was friendly and generous and right proud of his coffee. Best part is their small lot off of queen st before their entrance - handful of spots reserved for employees and customers. I would definitely come here for a great mocha, relaxed ambience - not a corporate experience with a bunch of different syrupy beverage options.

Sol Café is a total hidden gem in Kaka'ako, and Ramiro--the owner--is genuinely the secret sauce behind the whole experience. This place isn't just good... it's category-defining. The coffee here? Easily the best I've had in my entire life. No exaggeration, no fluff. Just straight excellence. Ramiro runs this café with the kind of care, craft, and good energy you only get from people who seriously love what they do. Every cup tastes like it was brewed with intention. You can feel the pride in the product and the hospitality the second you walk in. If you're anywhere near Kaka'ako, Sol Café is a non-negotiable stop. Hands down a must-try. Once you taste their coffee, every other shop starts feeling like background noise.

I had the loveliest time checking out Sol Cafe at the Lonohana Chocolate Estate factory in Kaka'ako. It is a one-man operation led by one of the owners of the company, and he is truly passionate about his work. I thought I was just coming for a mocha made with local chocolate, but I was pleasantly surprised to also receive a lesson on cacao, participate in tastings, and even got to try their cacao nib tea. Usually, cacao tea is made with the shells, but here they actually use the nibs, which adds a lovely deep, earthy flavor. Back to the mochas -- they truly are special because of the Hawaiian chocolate. However, they also don't skimp on the coffee quality. From meticulously sourced beans to careful consideration of chocolate complements, lonohana has done it all. They're also currently (December 2024) running a promotion for a free coffee if you bring in a puzzle for their puzzle library! They also sell caneles made by a local baker (but not in-house), and sell their products at the store. There are some tables you can sit and chat at, and self serve water, so it's quite comfortable. However, there isn't WiFi, and if you need to use the bathroom, you'll have to run across the street to Aloha Beer Factory (also a really cool place). You can also book a tour to actually visit the factory, which I did for next week! So excited to learn even more about cacao.

You haven't had a real mocha until you have one from Solcafe! Ramiro made the best mocha I have ever had and then treated me to an assortment of chocolate samples. The mocha was so rich and velvety in texture. The flavor profile of both the Ecuadorian espresso and Hawaiian chocolate brought such delight to me this morning. I highly recommend this place, bith for the espresso drinks and chocolate plus (big plus) the kind expert service of Ramiro! 5 stars and looking to coming back for more! I learned they also do chocolate factory tours! Thanks Ramiro!

Great coffee, eclectic vibe. Nestled inside Lonohana chocolate factory. Romero's coffee creations rival Melbourne, Australia!

There "Sol"thing special going on here... Sol Café just at the edge of Kaka'ako and Downtown has some familiarity going on as soon as I walked in...located right across Aloha Beer with parking right besides the building what a convenient spot to relax and enjoy your sip. This cute little cafe is a great hangout for coffee looking to order at a counter only to find a mobile cart as soon as you walk in and mirroring what was going just across the street with Aloha Beer was Ruby Violet was done here and yes they were serving coffee from Ruby Violet was a delightful surprise offering the same with the exception of Ube and Beef add ons is replaced by Mocha! Yup "The Mocha Bar" Sol Café is part of Lonohana Estate Chocolate and is offering tours and tasting here with reservations. Majority of the space is dedicated to all things chocolates and are immediately asked if I'd like to try samples which how can you not resist gosh the flavors are so exceptional and it just spreads in your palate. Using chocolates from Lonohana Estate is a bougie I never expected and it was just a glorious smooth sip! Currently there are "Plain, Jasmine Tea and Salted Milk and regular Milk Chocolates" and you know I had to get try the Jasmine Tea Chocolate and what a gentle blend it was, having literally a Mocha here at Sol Café is a great way to start your day. Thank you!

How have I never stopped in before??! Ramiro is amazing - super knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I'm not a mocha fan...or at least I wasn't, until today! Canele was also delicious. Chocolate tasting and shopping was also a treat. Plan to be back. Often!

If you are on the hunt for great coffee and locally made chocolates, let this be at the top of your list. Kaka'ako has a number of coffee places, however, I wanted to see if it was indeed different. It is. I love my mocha and to hear a local chocolate factory making their way in the coffee realm really piqued my interest. The flavor of the chocolate their use is full of local flavor that's deep, complex, rich, and subtly sweet enough to balance the coffee. It was great talking to the owner about the history of the factory (and you can get tours). He really took the time to explain what each chocolate was, gave samples, and talked about his vision. Would definitely come back again. I hope they get to use more of their delicious chocolates in their mochas.

I ordered the horchata coffee and my husband the americano with cream.

The menu is extensive with plenty of options, making it a great place for brunch whether you're craving something sweet or savory. The café also has a small section selling Island Vintage merchandise, which is fun to browse while you're waiting. If you choose to sit outside, don't be surprised if a few birds decide to join you for breakfast and they're regulars too.. Overall, despite the longer wait for drinks, the quality of the coffee, inviting atmosphere, and tempting menu make this a spot I'd happily visit again.

Sadly, it seemed more folks were there for the pastries though. First off, I'm surprised I found such a fabulous cup of coffee in what feels like the epicenter of tourist life on this island. While visiting another island nearly establishment had signage stating they served Kona and/or Hawaiian coffee, but nearly every establishment's coffee was absolutely awful. Seeing the location I fully expected them to phone in the coffee, but it's clear that coffee comes first here, even if many of the guests are trying to get pastries! You'll be shocked by the line, but just know the staff is efficient and it moves fast. They offer a variety of their own locally roasted beans here, with options for batch brew, espresso drinks and even pour overs (impressive considering the volume of customers). The coffees are well described and the baristas have the additional knowledge you may be seeking when you order, and all in all this went as quickly as I could have expected. Truly, the coffee was delightful, and the fact I was drinking a hot drink on an extremely hot day didn't even phase me. I wanted so badly to bring home a bag of each one, but given that everything is more expensive in Hawaii, these were all 4x the price of the specialty coffee I buy on the mainland and I just couldn't make it happen. What will happen is me telling everyone to visit this shop when they're in Hawaii because it is 100% worth it. Won't you consider opening one in Reno NV?

I don't want to be that person when this place has an overall rating of 4.5 but this is just my honest opinion. I got the blue dream and yes it was very ascetically pleasing, but it was just too icy. Before coming to this place i read a couple of reviews that also said the same thing and i didn't understand what that meant, but now I do. There are a lot of flavorless, just regular, small shards of ice in the bowl. On top of that, the moment I received my bowl, it was already borderline melted. So that got me thinking, how can it be melted and icy at the same time? The only explanation that I can think of is just ice additive/fillers. It's not pure cold acai or whatever is in the bowl you choose, but there's a mixture of ice in it too. Yes I understand, it's Waikiki, everything is more expensive, but the added topping prices on top of the already expensive bowl prices just don't make sense. You want a beautiful looking bowl with a lot of different toppings, yet some toppings can go up to 1 dollar PER topping. I don't know if I've just been spoiled by a couple places in SoCal, but at those places they have unlimited toppings and those bowls are the best that there is. I'm not bringing any bias from other locations, but this is just an honest review based on my experience today.
