SCAM ALERT! Tried to charge me $120 more after my hair was done?? SERIOUSLY??? So I gave this place a try on my friend's mothers recommendation. It's in a very humble strip mall, and the place looks as though it's in the process of being remodeled. I should've taken note of all the red flags I saw while I was there, but I didn't. So my mistake will hopefully help someone else. Firstly, my stylist Marisol took care of 4 other people while I was there - once again - just chalked it up to not being the most luxurious place in the world, so it took forever. Second, the phone would ring and people were being turned away who had groupon or living social deals even though the other stylist there wasn't busy. THEN, the women who had her hair finished before mine was told that there was going to be an additional $20 charge for her hair being long (it was barely shoulder length). The woman was understandably upset and refused to pay this additional cost. Well lo and behold, after I had my hair hightlighted ( I chose VERY subtle highlights that would barely show up to play it very safe) and trimmed. I went up to pay. I had a groupon deal that included highlights, haircut and blowdry. I had added an oloplex which I was told was $20 dollars extra - which i agreed to. When the Marisol saw my groupon (which I mentioned when I made the appointment) her whole demeanor changed and she said it was going to be $120 more! Who does that?? I ended up emptying out my wallet to this woman gave her all the rest of the money in my wallet for a sub par hair cut, basic highlights and was so upset. I had put aside 50 dollars just to tip this woman but instead I left feeling like I was taken for a ride. read more

She was so happy how Ashlee cut her long hair with pretty layers ... and nicely straightened her stubborn hair. She said Ashlee was super friendly and funny. Just had a great haircut experience at Sol Salon. I called for a same day appointment, which they kindly accommodated, and they offered to honor the Groupon price even though it had sold out. Mimi was my stylist, and she carefully separated and banded my hair so that it could be donated to Locks of Love. She gave me a wonderful short bob that looks fantastic! I was also given a frequent customer card so that my 7th haircut will be free! Everyone was super friendly, and I'd highly recommend Sol Salon. read more

Wow - just wow! I had two Christmas parties to go to, and I left getting my haircut and blowdry for the last minute. I called on the day of the party, and Marysol squeezed me in - if first impressions are really important, this was truly a great one! When I arrived for my appointment, Marysol was waiting for me and I didn't have to wait even a minute, which was great since I was on a tight schedule. She washed my hair with these amazing products (ask her - she'll tell you all about it), cut my tired hair (been longer than 8 weeks), and styled my hair for the party, all while chatting about cool Christmas party ideas. My hair looked amazing - with sturdy, yet effortless curls, and it was so bouncy and shiny. Best of all, for my hectic schedule that day, it was SO EASY - from making the appointment to leaving the salon feeling fabulous. Ashlee gave me one of the best haircuts I can remember in a long time! A beachy medium bob with a lot of texture and personality. She also highlighted my hair perfectly, covering the grays, but still adding the right toner to keep my desired brunette overall color. I was nervous because I came in blind with only a groupon, but I was so absolutely impressed! On top of it all, Ashlee is a really delightful human being. I had an incredible time getting my hair done by Mimi today. I purchased a Groupon to get my hair cut, styled, and partially highlighted and was a little worried because my cousin mentioned that hairstylists hate when people have Groupons and treat them differently. I have to say that was not my experience here at all. Mimi was very sweet and treated me well. She did an amazing job on my hair. Great place! I came in to redeem a Groupon for a cut and blow out. I had to schedule the last appointment of the day, so I felt like I might be rushed out the door but I was so wrong. You know how some haircuts have that awkward silence and you feel the need to reach for your phone? This was definitely not the case. I have been going here for my haircuts since Sada was the original owner. When Marysol took over the business I came in for a haircut and was surprised at the price but it was worth it considering across the street was much more money and even worse parking. After Ashlee starting cutting my hair I am hooked as we can discuss anything and I am comfortable with her doing my hair. I don't get anything but a regular haircut but Ashlee goes above that with trimming hair that doesn't belong on ears etc. Ashlee is a great person to deal with as she has knowledge of a lot of current items and can carry on an intelligent conversation so the haircut is done and you want to keep talking :). read more

Went to see Ashlee there with a Groupon a couple weeks ago. She is super friendly and a fabulous hairstylist! She explained on the phone there may be an additional charge for toner if I needed it, but I didn't. I was charged exactly what I expected and the haircut is amazing! I cut off several inches but wasn't sure about how short to go, so she cut off an inch or two at a time to make sure I was comfortable. Highlights look great too. I highly recommend. read more

I've been wearing longish swideswept bangs for 10+ years now, and very few hairstylists over the years have gotten them to look exactly how I want. Marysol got it right on the first try! Marysol did an amazing job on my ombre! I have gone to salons in Chicago, SF & LA asking for an ombre on my dark hair and every time the stylist bleached my hair and damaged it. They also always turned my hair orange! I told Marysol my concerns and she knew just what to do to make sure my hair wasn't damaged and turned out the way I wanted. I finally got the blond ombre I was looking for and am very happy with the results. Bought a Groupon for cut/color and scheduled my appt. after reading all the positive reviews. I had to call and cancel my appt. and rescheduled for the next day at the same time. Trouble is nobody gave the hairdresser that message. She was booked all day and couldn't fit me in. Booked it again for the following week. The water heater was broken, so the shampoo was a little on the chilly side, but stuff happens. After the whole thing, I hate my hair. The haircut was a little more like a hair chop. I'll probably have to go to someone else to soften it up. Color is meh. I won't be back. read more

I found Sol Salon on Groupon. (Great deal!) Tucked away inside a plain looking little mini-mall is this cute salon. I'd driven by dozens of times, but never really noticed it before. I'm glad Groupon brought it to my attention! The location is close to my house and living in the valley, I was happy to discover the salon had the AC pumping! It was nice and cool in there while I waited for my appointment. Ashlee R. cut my hair. Even though it was our first time meeting, right away I felt comfortable with her. She has one of those friendly personalities that puts people at ease. She is very easy to talk to and really listened to what I wanted. I had a bizarre request to turn my long hair into an inverted long bob with the sides longer than the back. She listened to what I wanted (keep it longer in front, but still be able to pull it up in a ponytail to get it off my neck.). For the first time ever, my hairstylist did EXACTLY what I asked for! Now I have a funky, lighter cut for summer and found a new stylist to boot! The salon was cute, the hair washing was relaxing and the blow-out was fab! The original owner when it was Universal Salon I went to for over 10 years - she was wonderful, local, great prices and professional. SOL is run like a bad used car lot and the hair SLASHERS - (see photos) - are trained to try to get more out of you, damage your hair then bill you to repair it. When I had my whackaweed right before Xmas and a photoshoot - Marysol told me she was so sorry, just sick over how Mimi destroyed my long hair but I would have to get in touch with Mimi (who had cut my hair for a year) to get my money back. It was my second visit back both before and after the New Year to get my money. Mimi said on the day she literally sliced/diced my hair after I asked for an inch to be trimmed off of my then long hair - "Oh you're feeling brave." She then informed me she was still on antibiotics and not feeling well which is not an excuse to destroy a person's mane - especially when hair has much to do with my work. DO NOT GO to this place with or without a Groupon - the worst salon to hit the neighborhood since Studio City began. They will lie, manipulate and then destroy. Why? I have no clue. Never in my life have I had an alleged hairdresser do such damage and an owner be so cavalier about it. Marysol is very aware I told her I would post my photos and please see them or you will be sorry. They are very real and can't seem to get them online at the moment, I'll see if their FB page works. It has taken months to get my hair repaired and I go for bi-montly trims to keep it looking healthy and to hide the damage. I have naturally wavy hair, had the over 4 inches and in some places 8 inches of hair whacked of been done to a person with straight hair? A lawsuit would probably have happened. I'm still comtemplating my options. I looked like I had a bad toupee on my head when I left, crying. read more
