Keep in mind this is a mom and pop type shop, humble, but it's clean, there is seating inside and outside. There is also a bathroom and just 4-5 or so parking spots. The parking area is kind of tight, so you might have to park in the street in that neighborhood. We went because we were feeling snacky. I had the strawberry specialty snowcone. Delicious, the ice was so smooth and it had real fruit. I enjoyed the corn in the cup, though it's not the best I've ever had, it got the spot. Despite these things, the snacks and snow cones here for me are nostalgic of childhood summers. If in the area, I do recommend and personally I would go back. Service maybe a little slow if you happen to come when there is a crowd, we didn't have this issue. read more

Cute little mom and pop shop. The store is very clean, and they were super friendly. They knew were new customers and offered samples. I ordered the Picadilly snow cone with pineapple, and my daughter ordered the mangonada snow cone. I like it because the syrup they used wasn't as sweet as many of the other places. My Dad had the Coquito, and I'll just say this, if you love coconut, do not pass on it! My daughter had the Sol y Luna, which was an interesting combination, but tasty in its own right, and my son ordered a Volcano. I didn't taste his, it looked a little rich for me, but he made it disappear, no less. Prices are reasonable and the service is pleasant. I've been thinking about the Coquito ever since last weekend, and I am pretty sure a visit, this weekend, is in order. read more

Sol y Luna is a 3 block walk, and our favorite place to go for something cold. This is an old fashioned stand on the corner of Hulen and Diaz (there's a stoplight). The owners have done a terrific job of creating specialties, and they are as nice as can be. My first visit last year was my first Jubilee. It has the standard crushed ice, and real fruit. They have always had mangos and strawberries, choose one or both. They also have pineapple, peaches, and maybe more in season, but I order mango and strawberry. Along with syrup, it also has sweetened condensed milk. Best snowcone I have ever had. My grandson loves the kids flavors. Last weekend he chose Blue Bubble Gum and Batman. He said it was awesome. The fact that there are more flavors than I have ever seen doesn't move him from the 5 or 6 kid flavors. Now they have added banana splits. I have had two. They are excellent! Ask for fresh strawberries along with the bananas. They serve snowcones in Styrofoam cups, which is much neater than the paper cones. Your car upholstery will thank you. read more

My family and I rolled up and they had actually closed early, but after knocking on the door and talking with the owner for a little bit, she was kind enough to make a few snow cones for my family and I. Let me tell you... this might have been THE BEST snow cone I've ever tasted. The consistency was so creamy that it almost tasted like ice cream. Ok so I have literally passed this place for almost 10 months and never stopped! But oh today was different...I parked on the side of the road and walked up to the stand because it was easier that way. The size options for the sno-cones were awesome!! They had a huge option that could easily feed a family of like 5! Of course one brave soul I'm sure would be willing to take on the monster by themselves. To continue, the man who was working was not very...welcoming! Aren't sno-cone people typically happy!! I mean sno-cones are a true art form show some happiness man! When I asked if he was the owner he replied, "no". He really could care less that it was my first time there (bursts my little happy bubble). Nevertheless, my blue coconut with cream sno-cone was amazing! The ice was like snow! I think I would go again just because the son-comes are that good. This is a great little mom and pop stand over near central market. You can't miss the big waving rainbow flags. They have a bunch of choices for preconceived creations or a list of different snow cone flavors you can try. We opted for the Monkey and the Jubilee. The monkey had tamarind syrup, tamarind pulp, chamoy and a mexican candy straw tarugo. The Jubilee is strawberry syrup, condensed milk and strawberries on top. I really enjoyed both. Wow there is a LOT of stuff on the menu at this shaved ice stand. I stuck with the boring wedding cake with cream combo. It was delicious. Fiancé got the sugar free coconut pina colada, which tasted almost sour to me. Lots of options for kiddos, but I think they took the ice cream off the menu. There's even dill pickle flavor. Parking is tricky and sometimes difficult here if it is crowded. read more

So happy I stopped by this place! It may be small, but it delivers one of the best snow cones/ices I've had in a long time! I always look for a snow cone that doesn't grind the ice to finely, so it doesn't melt quickly and you're left with slushy flavored water. This one kept a perfect consistency throughout. Second, the flavors can't be sickeningly sweet and have a weird or strong aftertaste. Granted, there are many flavors/syrups to choose from at Sol y Luna, there's bound to be some that will. My favorite and with 0 aftertaste and one which actually tasted like its description was the Cherry Coke (so, so good!). I also liked the Dr. Pepper, but it didn't taste *exactly* like it should (we Texans know our Dr. Pepper ;). The flavor I was most surprised and delighted with was the Angelito, which is chili and lime. This was crazy good and definitely not sweet! I would order that one again. Only cons about this place is the parking is quite limited and if there are many ppl you'll have to wait a bit (worth the wait), but you can park in the adjacent street as long as you're not there for long. Will be stopping in again for this perfect hot summer treat :) read more
