Melt melted my heart! I have passed by this ice cream place in downtown Fort Worth many times and never thought to go in. I thought it was "commercial" tasting ice cream with a just okay flavor. Boy was I wrong! First of all, the ice cream is made in-house. The pecans in the Texas Butter Pecan come from San Saba, Texas. I thought that was cool. They have seasonal flavors. They had a flavor called Peach Cobbler Cheesecake. It was so good. It tastes just like a bowl of Peach Cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. They also had a flavor called Salt Lick. Soooooo, so good. It was a salted caramel ice cream. I had a bite that had salt and caramel in it, mind blown! Service was good. You can sample the flavors before you commit. Prices are what you'd expect in a downtown restaurant. I would say Melt was worth every penny of my two scoops. The ice cream spot is kinda small. It does have some seating, but not a lot. I like Melt-- but won't be going to go to a place that doesn't care about their customers. It's 100+ degrees in Texas. We spent nearly $14 on two ice creams, asked for a cup of water, and were told the only option was to buy a bottled water. For paying customers, give me a break. We walk downtown several times a week and Melt had been a regular stop, but this experience changed that. The employee also came across as cold and dismissive, which didn't help. We tried 3 flavors. They all tasted a bit "watered down". There wasn't any chunks of cookie dough in the loaded cookie dough and the vanilla was a little flat. We watched the staff chop up a new batch of strawberry because it was so frozen and elevated that they couldn't fit it into the tray that they were using to scoop from and thought this ice cream would be hard. Nope. Instantly dripping down the cone even though it was barely 85 degrees. Even more disappointing was being forced to use contactless payment and then the company using that information to sign me up for their mailing list. One of the local uber drivers suggested this place as a must-visit in the Sundance Square area since I had only been to the Starbucks near the cowboy hat for frappuccinos to cool off with to that point in the multiple 100+ degree summer days in a row I had been up there for bidness. I figured when in (cowboy) Rome ... When I first walked in there was nobody manning the till. No other customers. I felt like I had just entered a Twilight Zone episode. There was no Bates-Motel-off-of-the-bypass bell to ring to alert staff that you were there and wanted ice cream. I stood there like an idjit alone for almost five minutes before someone finally came round from the kitchen area to do their gat dang job. That is how much I wanted ice cream and I assumed the sign on the door saying the joint was open (and the yelp app confirming they were open at that time) could be believed, so I just kept waiting and waiting and waiting until I could finally order. When I could finally order, I acquired the peach cobbler cheesecake flavour since it sounded like a sensible summer flavour whilst it was 107 degrees outside. I have no complaints with the size of the generous scoop for the price since it is a larger scoop for cheaper than you get at the Baskin Robbins kiosk at Love Field when I have the patience to wait in that enormous line to get my favourite artificially dyed blue flavour which just makes me happy looking at the colour. Besides the poor first impression of not having anyone working up front for almost five minutes, my other main gripe is with the flavour itself. This is not my first rodeo with a peach cobbler cheesecake flavour, since it is a pretty widely dabbled upon Southern USA summer flavour in other ice cream parlours, especially Jenni and others like Jenni. You should be able to taste the peach. Otherwise, what are we even doing here? I would describe this flavour as more like sitting on the lap of someone who is thinking intently about the most mid piece of cheesecake they have ever had from the nearby Cheesecake Factory, and that is all the flavour you get by osmosis. Vanilla ice cream can be delicious from its simplicity and letting the vanilla shine, so I am not an ice cream snob who thinks you can only have ambrosia and nectar based flavours. But this was such a dull attempt at flavour if the sign didn't say peach cobbler cheesecake I never would have guessed it, I would have assumed water based or water adjacent flavour at best. Was it cold on a day it was insanely hot out? It sure was. Is it something I would want to get again? Definitely not this flavour, but with the incredibly limited options for ice cream and/or acai bowls in downtown Fort Worth you can't write off anyone too quick in the summer heat since you will eventually have to come crawling back on your belly like the noble snek. Based on other reviews I think they are just better known for standard flavours like chocolate or vanilla, so perhaps skip the seasonal or limited time offerings (their "college tries") and stick to the flavours they have more practice at. James must still have his giant peach since there was certainly no peach up in this ice cream. read more

I live downtown and was excited to see a local ice cream shop. I was disappointed and doubt I will be returning. The price for a small ice cream in a cup was $5.41 with tax. The small was equivalent to what I used to call "kid-sized". See my attached photo. Add a waffle cone, and it was even more. The "chocolate chocolate" ice cream was meh--not a rich dark chocolate but a grocery store equivalent. To be fair, I've only found that rich dark chocolate in a few ice cream shops in my life--shout out to Hey Sugar Candy Store in Roanoke. Also, the ambience inside the shop left a lot to be desired. There were a few metal chairs and a couple small tables pushed up against the windows. It looked austere--not like a welcoming ice cream shop. Honestly, an old fashioned ice cream shop like the one in downtown Galveston, LaKing's Confectionery, would be so welcome here. What could make this shop so much better: Get more chocolate flavors, a "richer" ice cream, lower the prices, and change the ambience into a welcoming place. I would normally always give Melt 5 stars but tonight we had a bad experience I hope gets acknowledged. This is actually my first yelp review but I feel it's important to share. I wanted to share some feedback about our experience at the downtown location tonight (June 4th) at 9:10 PM. As my husband and I walked in, the employee on duty locked the door behind us and informed us that she was closing early because she was working alone. While we were inside, we watched several customers get turned away--until one man entered through the exit and was served around 9:15. Shortly after, another man entered the same way but was refused service. Only about 30 seconds later, four more people came in and were served, while the man who had just been turned away stood outside, clearly confused. He re-entered to address the inconsistency calmly and then left. A few minutes later, at 9:26, a young family came in to celebrate a birthday, and they were also refused service. It created a lot of frustration and confusion among customers watching from outside, unsure of whether they would be served or not. I'm not sure if this was in line with store policy or management direction, but the situation was handled and communicated very poorly. It left a lot of guests feeling disappointed. Just wanted to share in case it's helpful for future training or scheduling decisions. We've never had an issue with any of your employees before and yall have a great reputation around Fort Worth, so I hope it only continues to grow! read more

Melt excels at it's brand of "Fine Texas Dairy", providing a small selection of really interesting flavors, many having Texas-themed names (Salt Lick, Cup of Texas, etc.). And the ice cream is just DANG good. On a recent visit with my daughter, who has been an ice cream girl her whole life, we were informed it was "Global Act Of Kindness Day". We were invited to participate by pulling a sticky with a kind message on it ("You are loved" "You're the coolest", etc.) down from the window that someone else had paid for that could be applied towards the purchase of our cones. We chose to use one and pay for another, providing the opportunity to both pick and write a kind message. Cool idea. I ordered the Pumpkin Cheesecake on a peppermint cone, cuz why not? DeeLISH. Outdoor seating was nicely lit, if a bit chilly when we were there. Melt has collaborated with the mad scientists of brew at Martin House in a cream ale. MELT is a cute and convenient ice cream spot downtown. The smell coming from the inside was heavenly. We are new to the area and staying close by. Craving ice cream and we always really like these cool little places....they always have the best ice cream! The rocky road was great! It had a good amount of chunks in it...which lacks in any store bought rocky road these days. I really loved it though my only "complaint" would be that the cones are softer than I like.
