This was our first time at this ice cream shop but not our last. We came here after leaving the stockyards and the last stop while celebrating my kid's birthday. They have a variety of flavors and sizes. We came at 10:30 pm so it felt good sitting outside. They only have outside seating but a decent amount of tables. My kid got the single death by chocolate and loved it, I got the Magdalena's special; it is lemon custard with blueberry basil jam, this was fresh and so tasty; and my husband got a vanilla shake with heath bar candy. When we went to get our items, my husband's shake was made with chocolate ice cream, but the staff apologized and remade it correctly. This is my first time coming here, I have passed it several times and wanted to stop in. This time I came after a dance lesson that was close by. It was a perfect time for a little snack. I got the flavor of the Mo custard which was churro and I got the chuckwagon hotdog. I wasn't big on the sauce on the hotdog, but it was still good. Outside only seating, order window to serving window is a small wait, similar timing to the drive through. Tables and benches are under a set of huge trees for shade. There is a small fountain in the center where kids float tree leaves till they sink, getting themselves a bit wet, but far enough from seating to not splash that far. I like the lemon, the mint with several additions, the special fresh Weatherford peach just in season was great a couple weeks ago. Curly's is related to several popular restaurants around, and also the redevelopment of Roy Pope into a prime restaurant reminiscent of Mac's house, Carriage House, and others from history. Will be good to have Mac's salad back and maybe the veggie nibbler plate along with rolls at the table, if they bring that back as not even the prime restaurants do that anymore. Although in the past I've frequently ordered Curly's chili cheese dog made with Nathan's Famous hot dogs and liked them a lot, I won't stop nearly as often as previously unless Curly's switches to a quality American owned and made dog like Hebrew National. i love curly's, i really do. i've been a loyal customer for 4 years, and i don't plan on that changing anytime soon. with that being said, my most recent visit left me feeling disappointed. i ordered a double vanilla with banana, almonds, and caramel (the guy even read it back to me after i ordered so i know my order was taken correctly) for $10.63, but what i received was vanilla custard with some almonds. there was a SINGLE piece of banana. literally 1. that was obviously gone after one bite. and no caramel. none. i essentially paid almost $11 for vanilla ice cream and almonds, and that's where my frustration lies. i'm aware that they were busy and i know most of their employees are kids home from college for the summer or high schoolers working for the summer, but i just wanted some banana and caramel with my custard and for an $11 order, i don't think that's too much to ask for. i will give credit where credit is due: the vanilla custard is delicious and always will be. and they didn't short me on almonds at all so that's nice. read more

I have learned that Curly's have a proprietary blend of Indonesian vanilla flavoring and a couple different secret ingredients for their custard. It was almost the same creaminess I can remember growing up... it has more natural taste to it. I can't really explain the complexity of the flavor but you should really give them a try. I had their Very Berry which is made of vanilla custard, strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. It was so perfect! Creamy, not to sweet and full of berries. The custard itself had no peach flavor although the artificial orange coloring was far from lacking. I found the cheesecake bites to be better than the custard itself. Came here and got a double order of chocolate with some toppings. I will say that only one topping being free for a double is a bit silly to me as I would've expected at least two. If you want to customize your own custard with toppings, it can very quickly get pricey compared to going to a self serve frozen yogurt place or even most ice cream places. The serving was quite large but I found there were no toppings in the bottom 1/3 or too 1/3 of the my cup. All of them were in the center which was quite annoying. The custard itself is quite rich and decadent. The parking area near the drive thru seems quite dangerous since it's so steep and I watched a few cars go bouncing through the narrow area. The main detracting factor is definitely the service. The person who took our order was quite rude to us and didn't seem pleased we asked for a minute even though it was our first time and there weren't that many people.
