The staff was very friendly and service was great. The sandwiches were very tasty with a generous portion of lunch meat and fresh veggies on fresh bread. I like the setup of this place...it's very aesthetically pleasing to look at and sit in! It has that homey bakery/doughnut shop vibe, with a large display of various baked goods and their sandwich selection is interesting (they combined my two favorite thanksgiving things--turkey and cranberry sauce--into one sandwich! TL;DR - I love local mom and pop shops, but the service we got was super confusing and took a little long. 845am, I needed some coffee before going up to Tahoe. This is right off 80 and the dollar donut bags definitely sold me haha. Unfortunately, the line took a good 15 minutes because there was only one person working register, taking orders, and boxing up donuts. The system for arguing is really confusing because we only wanted the bagged donuts in the front (which didn't require someone to grab donuts from the display) and lattes. Usually, most places have someone working the display and someone ringing/beverages. The food was ok. Lattes were regular lattes (definitely not blue bottle quality) and the donuts were greasy and delicious. But honestly, not worth waiting 15 minutes for typical happy donut-esque donuts. read more

They have pastries, all sorts of bread including but not limited to bagels, donuts with bacon pieces on it & M&M's - loads of variety. I asked what was the most popular pastry & she said the Apple Fritter - go figure, that's my fave donut EVER! So I went with that & I also go the 20 oz. Non- fat white chocolate mocha. The donut was sooooo yummy! & the coffee was more coffee-y than I would've liked but it was still BOMB :) I totally recommend this place! read more

I am coming to the conclusion that I am probably very spoiled by the excellent food choices in SF - I am singularly unimpressed by what I find anywhere outside the Bay Area. Or maybe sometimes it's that the food just isn't that good. We were ravenously hungry and tempted by the "Panini" sign in the window and the Popeye's and Burger King chains in the neighborhood don't do much for a vegetarian (and not much more for a carnivore, truth be known) - so we took a chance on the local fare. I guess it was not too bad - in SF it would be a two-star in Dixon it would be a three. But what really marked it down was the "free cookie" that came with the unremarkable panini - the cookie was tasty enough, but truly not much bigger than my thumbnail! A store brimming with cakes, pastries, and cookies and yet the "free cookie" is so stingy? What were they thinking? That's bad marketing and, frankly, just mean. read more

We were driving north and had to gas up. Instead of getting our coffees at the gas station, we decided this is a better option since it's next door. We were pleasantly surprised to come in here. The ladies behind the counter were very welcoming and offered up donut samples. We purchased a few baked goods and were happy with the food. I thought the prices were pretty good. I got two breakfast pastries and coffee for $5... Super affordable and delicious too. They have an array of donut samples on the counter as well as a whole shelf of $1 day old items. This bakery is pretty fantastic. Never been dissapointed with any of the sweet stuff or donuts. The best thing is that they are reasonably priced. You can get a beautiful cake for under $20. They also do wedding cakes and sandwiches. Worth a stop off the freeway? Not really. Unless you have to get gas. But if you are looking for good donuts/cake in the area, you should stop by. This is a bit unusual, but I'm submitting this review on behalf of a friend who doesn't use the internet, but reported to me how kind and generous the staff was at this bakery. First, she reported that she had a delicious heated turkey and cheese sandwich with all the trimmings, which she enjoyed greatly. She had ordered her sandwich and after waiting quite a while, she went to the counter to inquire. They apologized that they had forgotten her order, made her sandwich. They also handed her a bakery box full of muffins and cookies as a gift for causing such a wait. These people care and do the right thing. We happened to see Solano Baking Company on our way to a quick fast food fix hopping off 80 a few years ago and have been coming back ever since!! We are typically stopping for paninis but usually end up adding a couple of amazing old fashioned red velvet donuts to the order. We recently got married and ordered a few dozen donuts from SBC and everyone raved about how delicious they were and were bummed they came from so far away! The only thing that holds me back from a 5-star rating are the employees. Don't get me wrong, they are usually great but there are a lot of younger high school looking kids that would make the experience a lot better if they actually smiled at a customer every once in a while and looked like they were paying attention...my other half likes to add aioli and bacon to his panini and they usually don't get this right the first time. But kids are kids. The food is great and we will be back!!! read more

I've been stopping here on the way from the Bay to Sacto for almost 20 years. I'm not sure why I like the place so much. Maybe it's where it is in the trip, or how easy it is to get off 80 and back on - dunno. But every time I go into Solano bakery and see all those fritters and donuts and bready things, and the nice people at the counter and free samples, I feel good. Really good. When I'm done with the baked stuff and coffee, I feel really really good. This place is not trendy - the style is 70s or 80s at best. It's not an organic cafe with lots of wood and local art on the walls and Bob Marley, etc. This is just a great local roadside bakery that knows how to put sugar, flour and baking powder together. Lots of seats and no pressure nomading if you need to take care of business on 80 over coffee and a fritter. Don't know if they have wifi - I always bring my own. Yum. read more
