Recently got back from a wonderful trip to Switzerland, Germany and France. The food on our trip was amazing. I heard that Pure Grain Bakery was offering some great authentic German cuisine for Dinner and was intrigued. We got there around 5:30 pm and found an ice table, the servers were very nice and we ordered some wine and a great German beer. The menu has some specials and the regular menu has some traditional schnitzels and other goodie's.my wife ordered the chicken Marsala special and I ordered the Jägerschnitzel, we both asked for spaetzle as our side dish. After the tasty house salad we got our main dishes and we were very excited to dig in. My wife loved her chicken, the Marsala sauce was incredible and my jagerschnitzel was fantastic, the mushroom gravy was so good! Don't think I've ever had a real cannole until now. Quality custard and chocolate! Glad I got more than one of each to try. The Jalapeño breads were a hit with my mom. She said the flavor of the bread was, "So good!" I also got their Hot Philly Sandwich with roast beef on French bread. We go here for German pretzels. However the pastries are incredible! Portions are great and everything is fresh. This location makes everything however its not really a place you come to sit and eat. Several small tables are outside but i would not expect to come and sit and eat. I think you can bring a dog. A water bowel is outside. But id think you come to pick up items and go home. Love these bakeries, it's so easy to drop $30-40! We normally go to the other location off of Town Square Pl. Did a pre order for my husbands birthday and his favorite is German Chocolate! While I went in there to pick up the cake I decided to order 2 breakfast sandwiches a breakfast burrito and a few of their other baked items!! We definitely will visit again. My husband loved his cake and his birthday breakfast burrito and my daughter and really enjoyed our sandwiches. I can't remember what the baked goods were called but I got this one roll that had delicious raspberry perseveres in it, it wasn't a donut but it was soft, warm not too sweet and delicious! A review as an ex employee: wouldn't recommend working at pure grain bakery, as the manager is moody, fake, and passive aggressive. The employees are not given their legal paid 15 minute breaks for working over 6 hours. And good luck being sick, as you need to break your back in order for the manager to "see" it. 2/10 customers are nice. Food looks good but is not allergen friendly. The service here is always a hit or miss with this place. Aside from that, I've become a fan of their Tuna Sandwich on Dutch Crunch. One single sandwich can definitely fill me up! I even tried their breakfast sandwich on jalapeno bread with some type of pepper jack cheese which was phenomenal. I'm trying not to exaggerate because this place honestly had the best vanilla latte I have ever had in my 23 years of life. And I studied abroad. I've lived all over the country. This has been my favorite. Perfectly sweet. Perfectly hot. Perfect foam. Perfectly strong but not too bitter. Ugh it was great. I also had a peach pastry. It was DELICIOUS. So flaky and incredible. Not too sweet but just sweet enough. I never wanted it to end. I sat outside and worked on my computer. The weather was perfect, the staff was so nice, and the wifi was fast. I have been a regular customer at this bakery for a couple months now, every-time i come in & wait for my sandwich, i sit & notice dead bees, roaches & Wasps all over the corners of the windows, a huge aunt trail up & down the walls near the chip station, flys EVERYWHERE!! it's DISGUSTING!!! the floor is always dirty & dead bugs on the floor as well. it seems they never have any maintenance on that place & a bad pest service !!!! i don't trust their food after seeing how they take care of the place. read more

We discovered this bakery after sadly leaving a too-long line for a breakfast spot. We are so glad we found Pure Grain! I'm not sure of they make these cookies all year long - but the little shortbread-jam sandwhich are THE BEST. We also love the little hazlenut ones, espeically with a coffee or tea. So I had a host of problems with this place. I tried to fax in a order but their fax machine was illegible and I was phoned to take the order. Well it was around 12-1pm and they were out of everything except ham, turkey and salami. They were also out of french rolls and dutch crunch bread. Who knows what else they were out of. Regardless we ordered four sammies and four chips which came to $30 exactly. My egg salad had bits of shell in it YUCK. I love this place. The outside of it is a little odd to say the least, they're next to a fire station and a few random businesses. It's also near where a bunch of Vacaville's warehouses are. (Food) They always have delicious bakery items, my personal favorite is their blueberry scones, but they tend to sell out when I have the time to head over there. I also get their sandwiches and potato salads often, everything is pretty fresh and made to order however you'd like (the sandwiches that is, the potato salad is pre-made but still fresh). This is where the Cafe gets their bakery items because this is where their main kitchen is. (Service) The workers are really nice. So I had some German food cravings awhile ago. And when these cravings come, I usually head to Sacramento's reliable Morant's Sausage Kitchen. It was on one of these trips recently that their bread rack had something I hadn't seen before called mueslibread. I like muesli. I'll give it a shot. I don't know what exactly it is they add to this bread but it is addictive as hell. A mix of rye, wheat, and whole grain. Flax seeds. Sunflower seeds. Raisins. The perfect breakfast bread (I mean, the packaging itself even says Frühstückbrot), just toast it, slab it with butter or soft cheese, and maybe a plate of cucumbers and tomatoes and you have yourself pretty much the perfect easy breakfast. Of course, when the mueslibread ran out, I went back to Morants and they were out. Apparently, according to the owners of Morants, they're out often because the folks who bake the bread don't send regular shipments of the mueslibread. And sorry... three grain bread just won't do anymore. Which meant I started making weekly trips down to Vacaville to replenish my supply every week. Which meant I started buying other things like the delicious pumpkinseed bread - again perfect with a slab of butter. The pretzels - chewy and crunchy although a bit too salty. The bakery has a variety of other baked goods and they do make sandwiches, although I've yet to explore those parts of the menu. Prices on everything are very affordable. The loaf runs $4.49 and lasts a week. Pretzels are $1.50. Pumpkinseed bread and the seeded brotchen are just 70¢ For first time visitors, it isn't the easiest place to find. The bakery cafe is a side door on the corner of Eubanks and Vaca Valley Parkway - and you'll see it from the main road because of the trees and umbrellas outside. The area is pretty industrial but it is an easier drive that making your way through downtown Vacaville to their much nicer, much bigger cafe/restaurant location. My breakfasts for the forseeable future require this bakery to exist. My gasoline bill begs... no, implores them to open a second cafe closer to Sacramento. read more

My friend raved about stopping at this place for their lox bagel all the time before she goes to work and when I found myself in downtown Vacaville I decided to check it out myself. I ended up ordering a turkey sandwich, small mocha, and 2 pastries. All for $18, ouch worth the expensive? Well let me break it down: Mocha: tastes ok, nothing special Turkey sandwich: I'm very disappointed by my sandwich, the bread was ok (was s croissant and it tasted like it was day old bread) and the turkey they used seems to come from the very cheap packaged turkey you can find at Walmart. Baked goods: can't comment on all that I bought since I only ate one and it wasn't that good. (Chocolate croissant) Service: not very good but not bad either. Just the service you would get at say Walmart. I expected more since I don't believe this is a chain. I don't think I would bet returning, I can get all of these at the nugget market and it would taste better. read more

Pure Grain was the first stop of my "Northern California Bread Tour," and if there weren't 10 other bakeries awaiting us that day, I would have bought one of everything here. Pure Grain is definitely the best bakery around Vacaville/ Davis/Fairfield area, not only since there aren't many, but their bread is really pretty good. I used to buy their musli bread and German 3 grain at the Davis Food Co-op all the time, and thought, "oh this really good!" But after I had the chance to try an oven fresh loaf from their bakery, I don't ever want to buy them at the supermarket again, because thats unfair to my palate. I tried the wheat french roll and pretzel and both were delicious! However, I did wish they offered more wholewheat varieties. If there were more fiber, I would be more likely to eat 4 more slices. read more

Best cake I've ever had. EVER! Apparently when you place an order for a cake where I work - the cafe - calls this place and orders one. I've had the pleasure of extras being taken to the break room and like a vulture - I swooped in! Glad I did!! First time I tried it the cake was chocolate with the raspberry fluffy mousse in the middle with a whipped cream frosting drizzled with chocolate sauce and more fresh raspberries. OMG - best cake ever!! Second time it was a white cake with all the same stuff ... 2nd best cake ever! I'm ordering one for my grandson's birthday - he doesn't eat cake - but it's for the adults. Lucky me!! I look forward to trying other things from this wonderful place right around the corner from where I work.
