Stopped in following a soccer game with the kids. Their sandwich menu has a nice variety and they are all on their breads. The flavors of the sandwiches were all really good, but the fillings are on the chintzy side. The sandwich side would have gotten a 3 star, but the four stars of the place though are the donuts. I had my share of the samples that were out and I was super impressed. And the donuts in the cases were upscale (glazed with Oreo topping, cakes with butterfinger topping, etc). We had to each buy one for the road. If I were a local this would definitely be my donut fix location. read more

The customer service however, is one that I have not experienced in a very long time. There is this little cute lady, probably in her early 40s and she is just the most pleasant and wonderful person ever!! I had one of the best experiences with Solano Baking Co. This was my first ever visit and they unfortunately messed up my order and I did not find out about it until I arrived home. I called them to see if they could get the correct order in to have it ready before getting back over there and assured me they would. Their donuts are pretty good! My favorites were the blueberry, the red velvet, and the glazed. The glazed was perrrrfectly soft and like a cloud in my mouth. I would caution to stay away from the lemon fritter though, it tasted really artificial. Other than that, keep the donuts coming! read more

The Yelp app wins again! We were road-triping to Sacramento and in need of breakfast and so I turned to my trusty Yelp mobile app of course to guide us. Solano Baking Co is right off the freeway and has major baked goodness! I had no idea there were that may variety of doughnuts, if the variety exits, they make it fresh at Solano Baking. We had the egg breakfast bagel sandwich with bacon. The eggs were nice and fluffy, didn't taste like the gray mirco-eggs you get at chain bagel place. The service was friendly and fast and we couldn't resist trying a buttermilk bar - OMG I still am on a sugar high. Great place to stop to and from Sacto from the area for sure. read more

Last weekend on the way to Roseville, we pulled off to fill up and get some fast food breakfast sandwich in Dixon. I've seen this Solano Baking Co. before and decided to give it a try for some pastry, all the while hoping they had some kind of sandwich... Lo and behold, not only did they have breakfast sandwiches, they had paninis!! BUT there was long line and we had a tight schedule. But this long line meant Good Eats, so I got in line. They had a bunch of people working the line, and it was my turn in literally a minute or so! The selection of pastry as amazing and the donuts were GREAT... not too sweet nor oily. The bagel breakfast sandwich was LOADED and not greasy! The bagel was soft and full of seeds/grains. (Although I prefer the harder shell bagels, it was very good.) Wow. I've been in Dixon approximately 7 years and was looking for something a lil healthier for breakfast and asked my husband to take me to Solano baking co. I am in love with the clean fast friendly environment. I had a sesame bagel with bacon egg whites and jack cheese. It was delicious. When I first walked in I wasn't excited about the long line but much to my surprise it moved very quickly. What a smart business woman to be staffed so well. Afraid this place doesn't deserve a star. Not one. I've been in the service industry most of my life. My first paycheck was at the age of fifteen working at a local, family run danish coffee shop in Oakland. We knew what our products were and were required to at least know the basic ingredients. We smiled. We greeted our customers and bid them good day. Basic common curtusies. The flavors were fresh and there was so much to choose from. None of these qualities were present today. My first visit to your establishment was tainted by one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. We were treated as if we were an inconvenience to girl who was behind the counter. My friend, who is legally blind and deaf, was treated in what I can only call "disdain ". I hoped that when I returned home I would be treated to a buttery and flavorful cookie. Unfortunately it tasted like it was made with lard. No flavor. Not even a hint of vanilla. The bag was soaked with grease within 25 minutes. You heard right!? I said 5 stars! We came across this place one early morning while we were looking for Starbucks for something to go with our home made coffee in thermoses. Hubby said LOOK so I turned in and went inside. O M G! This place was a huge shop and to my amazement, they had 12 different flavored fritters! Apple, cookie crunch, s'more, blueberry, strawberry, mocha crunch, caramel, peach just to name a few....I was overwhelmed! Got the hubby the cookie crunch which had nuts, chocolate drizzle and cookie crunchies throughout. I ordered the cinnamon twist. Not only were they huge they were yummy!!! This place had awesome looking cupcakes, cookies and donuts galore, pretty fancy and a great price. Overall a damn good deal! I came here after what seemed to be an endless search for a reasonable priced wedding cake. A friend of mine had posted a picture of a beautiful red velvet cake from here and even though I live in Vallejo I still took a drive out with my husband to be. Everyone her was so warm and happy. A girl sat down with us and showed us some designs. We then also got to taste test as well! She not only was nice but went the extra mile to make a design on the table and show us! We made our down payment and placed the order. For one sheet cake and a small three tire cake and delivery from Dixon to Vallejo it was only $350. Let me tell you the cake was the bomb for real. Every one loved it. When they got to the house they even set up the table and told my mom how happy they were to work with me. They told my mom they couldn't believe how nice of a bride I was but honestly I can't believe how amazing this bakery staff is! And the prices are humble. I LOVE this place. LOTS of parking in front of both doors. This is one of my favorite places to go to. I stop by here on my way to Reno when I drive my family. My dad loves apple fritters. LOVES them. This place makes them great. They even make a sugar free apple fritter. I went in before and have seen blueberry and peach fritters but that was they had left. I got there fairly early maybe 9:45am and they had banana, blackberry, cherry, and the other fritters I all ready mentioned. There were at least 8 different types of fritters or was I so confused by the selection, I tuned out because I was only going to buy my 87 year old father only 2 fritters. I myself had to decide what I wanted. I settled on the chocolate covered glazed donut with mini eminems(lol). I also went with the old fashioned donut with blueberries. Lastly the old fashioned buttermilk. What I wanted but didn't get. The chocolate fritter. The red velvet donut. Turns out my mom loved the fritter she shared with pops...she wants to stop by on the way home from Reno. I hope they have fresh donuts in the afternoon. If not, my mom had her eye on the menu, which had focaccia sandwiches. So I expect to add to this review or just follow it up with new entries. Did I mention that the ladies are so quick to help? Solano Baking Co did my wedding cake. One of my favorite things was that the fondant was made from marshmallows instead of gum paste's it was actually good to eat. We had a couple layers chocolate with raspberry filling and the other was vanilla with champagne custard and strawberries. Both were AMAZING! The best part is, we didn't have to save the top tier. The gave us a coupon to come back and get a free 6" round to match the cake, for our 1 year anniversary. To quote the consultant " who eats anything a year old" In addition to the cake, they have some pretty amazing fritters. They're kind of a ways from us, but we know where to stop for a good donut when we go to Tahoe. read more

I have to preface this review with this: If you are on the way to Sacramento, the Sierras, etc. from the Bay Area (or vice-versa), the Pitt School Road exit in Dixon (between Vacaville and Davis) is the best exit for a quick and thorough stop. There is a Safeway (with a cheap gas station), a liquor store, self-serve frozen yogurt, a good variety of fast food: Arbys, B-King, McDs, T-Bell, etc., IHOP & Dennys, Starbucks, basically everything you could want in one tiny area right off the freeway. This is my go-to exit for this journey now, and Solano Baking Co. is a good find if you want a quick meal that isn't from a drive-thru without losing serious minutes off your travel time. Our first visit had been so yummy, so this was pretty disappointing. My B and I were craving non-camping food on the way back from 4 days at Lake Comanche, and remembered we passed Pitt School Road on our way there, so it would only be a short detour to panini-goodness. We somehow passed the street, but the #1 Solano (panini with turkey, jack, avocado and garlic aioli) was enough to still make the ~20+ round trip after driving almost 2 hours! We ordered the same things we had the first time: the panini, one regular cannoli and one dulce de leche, and added a mint chocolate chip cannoli. We got sufficiently baked and dug in. The first couple bites of the panini were good, the cheese was gooey & stretching and the avocado chunks were big & fresh. However the bread (a thick, biscuit-like, crustless white bread) was kinda dry, and it was not nearly as garlicky as before. It got less good as I got to the latter half of my triangle (we split it), and I couldn't finish the last couple of bites. I couldn't quite explain it, but Josh hit the nail on the head when he brought up how the bread seemed less fresh and more dry than our first one, and the edges were almost inedible because the cheese and avocado was concentrated in the middle and then non-existent on the ends. Bingo. He also would have preferred the ton of garlic aioli from the first time. The thick, dry bread was just not sufficiently balanced by the fillings throughout the entire panini, and at $7, that is a critical mistake. The cannoli are really good. The mint chocolate chip cannoli was not something I would get again, but that is just because regular cannoli are so good, and that delicious sweet-cheese filling shouldn't have anything added to (the dulce de leche are awesome, with just a drizzle of caramel added). I think they are pricey at $1.50 apiece, (especially considering how much delicious baked goods I can get at my favorite bakery on Mission Street in SF for the same price,) but I know specialty pastries like cannoli and baklava tend to be high-priced. Another long review, but I pride myself on thoroughness (and long-windedness ;-) If you are looking for a good, versatile, quick breakfast/lunch spot on your way from the Bay Area to Sac, the Sierras, etc., I would still highly recommend Solano Baking Co. read more

The bakery counter was full of made in-house donuts. The plus was they had samples on the counter, TRY THEM. So delicious. I enjoyed that even at 10:30 in the morning you can get a sandwich. However the sandwich I tried was of the breakfast nature. I chose the egg/sausage/cheese sandwich and went with the suggestion of croissant and added avocado. It came out piping hot and this is no small sandwich if you aren't overly hunger share with a friend or save the other half for later. Iced coffee was just perfect no sweetner or creamer needed. I decided to stop by to get a bagel not a big selection of bagels but plenty of other baked goods. I ordered 2 cheese bagels to take home. Once I was home and was ready to eat. The bagels they gave me were hard as a rock! That was quite surprising cause the lady that put them in the bag had to pick them up with wax paper and could clearly feel that they were stale and hard as a rock, but yet decided to sell them to me anyway. It was either Safeway, fast food, or Solano Bakery, so we decided to try out Solano, since they had a sign in the window saying they had panini. It was quick and the service was friendly, but the cheese on the panini wasn't melted and they were out of ciabatta or focaccia or whatever it should have been on, so it was on french bread, which I guess wasn't terrible, but still didn't seem right. They do have some amazing cakes in back, though, and a viewing window so you can see the baker in action. read more

we got our wedding cake from here and it was really good. kendra (wedding cake person and i think also one of the owners?) did our cake - we wanted a cake that had writing on it and she did a beautiful job. the cake was so delicious - we had chocolate cake and vanilla cake filled with raspberry, custard and fudge. we came in for a tasting and i felt like i was on suger overload aftewards but they were generous with the flavors offered. kendra was very dedicated to how the cake was going to look - she was able to nail it right down as to how it was going to look - she wanted to make sure that we were happy with the appearance. she even did a sample of her handwriting - beautiful cursive. she had great ideas and was flexible. we would definitely come here again - maybe even for our 1 year anniversay (we didn't save the top cake). very impressed. the proce was reasonable too - i think we paid about 450 and the delivery was free (ask about specials) - our wedding was in sacramento. aside from the wedding cake, there is a bakery in there as well - the coffee is always fresh and strong - the bakery items are sometimes a miss - the scones don't have much flavor and are dry - but the donuts are delicious as always AND they have large samples of pastry items - if i could give it 4.5 stars i would. : ) thank you kendra! read more
