This shoe shine/repair shop is worth the drive downtown! David and Allie made Roxie and I feel right at home while we received quick, professional service! I scuffed up a brand new pair of booties the first time I wore them and I was unsure if they deep scuffs could be repaired sadly. I also wore my favorite pair of black cowboy boots that I've neglected to have shined before in. They were becoming dingy and the toes were scuffed. Within about 12-15 mins, David had restored both pairs of shoes for me. I even offered to leave the booties with him and return for them, but when I shared with him that my only business in the area was at the Sole Box, he promptly took care of both pair of shoes for me--with two customers waiting. I can't say enough about his level of professionalism and service. The service is relaxed, amazing, and fairly priced. To save that David and his team "saved" my shoes is an understatement. Having worked in the men's shoe industry (Johnston & Murphy), I recognize good work when I see it (Goodyear welt, Blake stitching method, bondwelt shoes, etc). Not only did David take personal care of my shoes, he saved them from an unfortunate circumstances of a literal city riot (George Floyd incident and related events) by taking them home in case his store was looted (thankfully not). He and his team are skilled craftsmen but more than that, he is simply a good person. I have many more shoes to bring him and wish he and his team well. read more

I had a terrible experience here. I read the reviews and decided to try this place. I phoned for a time estimate on a repair and David said 4-5 days, so I raced down to drop off my shoes. It was awful. There were dogs chained up and barking and jumping outside the booth, which was cluttered and filthy. David was shining an overweight man's sneakers while another overweight man stood in the doorway. Not once was I acknowledged or offered help in anyway, even after standing there several minutes being subjected to bro-humor about their junk. A woman stepped in front of me, and David told her, I was almost finished with your boots, but this guy came in, so it'll be a few minutes. It was then I realized I was not comfortable with this degree of unprofessionalism and left. Also, on the phone, David referred another shop--it was on the way back to the train so I stopped in, and it was cluttered and filthy, and the guy was a sexist jerk. Don't waste your time! To respond to the owner's reply: You just proved and validated my comments. There were no other customers there. None. You just didn't think I was worth your time, as evidenced by your further sexism in assuming my title as "ma'am." You DO control what conversations in which you choose to engage, and in what humor you choose to laugh. You DO control who you acknowledge, and who you ignore. You DO control with whom you associate, refer, and recommend. You are fully complicit, and I stand by my review. The way you conduct business and yourself does not align with my values, and I will not return. read more

I was worried when I looked up "Scuffs" on Yelp and saw that it was closed. Thankfully these are the same folks because they do GREAT work! The original owner just rebranded all of his places with the same name! They are still in the kiosk directly in front of Starbucks on 16th Street Mall.
