I have a pair of Birkenstock Suede Bostons that are my every day shoe. Love 'em, but I wore out the soles so I went to John to get them patched up. He did an amazing job! He was able to swap out the entire bottom with a much more durable rubber sole and they look good as new. He even freshened up the cork a bit to protect them! I found a great pair of black, lizard-skin cowboy boots at a consignment store for $35. They were generally in good shape, but the soles needed work. I've never had boots re-soled, so I don't have anything to compare this experience against. But the owner of John's Shoe Repair is extremely friendly. If I recall, he's from South Korea. When I plopped my new-to-me boots on the counter, he remarked on the good condition of these used boots. He suggested that I get a half-sole and heel. I could get rubber or leather. Of course I went with leather. C'mon. They are black cowboy boots. Was there really any other option? $65 ... not sure if that's a good price or not, but it seemed reasonable. When I picked up my boots about a week later, the owner chatted me up for a few minutes before I even had a chance to tell him what I was there to pick up and then he went in back and returned with my boots. He even reconditioned the leather for me. I had forgotten to ask him if he would only glue the soles or if he would also sew them. I was pleased to see that he had indeed spent the time and energy to sew the leather soles together. I'm very happy with my re-soled cowboy boots, and I am confident that these will last a decade. I will definitely take any other shoe projects to John's Shoe Repair. read more

I took my women's nude sandals in on a Friday before President's day, paid in advance (as required), he told me they'd be done by Tuesday. I was pleased at the short timeframe given the holiday. When I picked them up, John came out and showed me the heal and sole. They were not cleaned up, they had the old scuffs and NEW scuffs near where he added a new heel. When I asked about the obvious issues, he shrugged it off and stated that he didn't have polish to match. This would be understandable if the shoe was some unique color. They were a basic tan/nude. Yes, the heal and sole were added and I was charged $43 for what I thought was the heel, shoe and the clean up to remove scuffs and tiny tears on the tip of the sandal. I definitely will make the drive to Dardano's next time where they are much more customer service oriented and deliver on what is paid for. read more

I brought a pair of black leather riding boots that I've had for about 5 years. They were trashed to say the least. The heels on both had come off, they we're scuffed to the point they looked blue on the toes, and the soles had been worn down to almost nothing. These boots fit great and we're about $250 retail so I was willing to have them repaired...if they were able to be. This was my first time having shows resoled or fixed in any way. Brand new pair of $300 wolverine 1000 mile boots for Christmas, and I scratch them on New Years Eve. I took my boots to John and he shined them to blend in the scratches and installed Vibram soles on the bottom to increase traction and provide protection. Horrible. I dropped 2 pair of shoes off to be clean up and have the heel's repaired. They were there for almost a week. When I went to pick them up, he had a very ha time finding them and when he finally did, nothing had been done to them. He replaced one little heel tab and nothing else. I was so disappointed. I have brought 3 pairs of shoes to them getting my heels replaced. The prices are average. not too expensive but not cheap, either. Each pair's price was different. they run about $12 to $16 a pair depending on what kind of shoes and how much material is needed. This is my first experience having shoes resoled. Thankfully, with the quality of workmanship here, I don't think I'm going to have to come back anytime soon, but if I ever do this is the place I will go. I had two pairs of nice dress shoes whose uppers are still in great shape but the soles were very much worse for the wear. I took the advice the owner and had better soles put on that will last a lot longer and my shoes look like new. He even reconditioned the leather. I too had great confidence in John. I had been taking my shoes here for years. Basically to have tips replaced. However, on my last visit, i took some boots to have new tips put on. When I went to pick up the boots they were ruined. I could not longer wear them John refused to acknowledge what happen to the boots. In our discussion, he insisted that was the way he got the boots.
