How and where to start? If you're okay with your child listening to the latest Cardi B, singing lyrics that include sexually explicit language, then this hip hop class is for you. The teacher is unorganized and constantly rescheduling classes. Her pricing is pretty Ludacris and her sales tactics are high-pressure. We paid over $500 for two performances, one was canceled, the other rescheudled and the dance routine classes have been halted until October. As of today, we are no longer in the class and we are hoping to see a refund. I just messaged JR and will post on whether she refunded us. The last straw for our family was seeing the little girls in class wearing bras and shorts in a promo video on Tik Tok, Facebook and God knows what other channels. This happened today. If you're a mom like me in South OC, keep looking for an appropriate class. I think for our family,, we need to find a pop class. My child likes upbeat, fun music and ballet is too boring for her. However, exposing our kids to sexual and vulgar music is not okay. In our experience with the class, our daughter heard the N word and B word. The songs she asked me to play on the radio, because they were in her hip hip routine were outrageous. We spoke to our teacher about our music concerns, she said it was a complete accident the music was played in class. Unfortunately, the song selections continued throughout the class. Perhaps all the classes run by JR are not the same, but in our class, she quickly told us about a performance class in LA and Las Vegas, the sales .. we were told that sign ups for the performance needed to take place the SAME DAY. The cost was over $500 and the decision needed to be made the exact same day. Ultimately we wanted our little girl not to feel left out, so we signed her up the following week. We were told about the performance during week 2. Out of the 2 performances, one was cancelled. Another was rescheduled. The classes for the performance were rescheduled until a later day. We were never offered even a partial reimbursement for the canceled performance. During our 2 or so months with Solid, the classes f were canceleled or rescheduled various times, usually under 24 hours and sometimes on the same day. At last, the real problem with the class is sexualizing kids. Through dance routines, lyrics and online publications- the safety of our kids is of upmost importance. Just be safe, find a studio that puts the kids' health and wellbeing first. I wanted my child to stay active because with Covid, its been quite alienating and boring to stay home. However, I have deep regret as staying active can't compromise wellbeing. read more

I have my son and daughter st Solid Hip Hop! I have had them on previous dance studios prior! I have never seen an instructor so fit to teach these kids! J.R. Not only can get on the children's level and make them laugh, but the ability she has to teach them and make them their best is unbelievable! Her dancers respect her and she respects them, this is why she has been open for over 10years! I would recommend for anyone who is paying a "studio" to check out JR's program. It is unlike anything you have ever experienced! You communicate directly with the owner and have the same teacher every week! We should have connection to the coach of our children, this is who we have trusted them to learn from! J.R. Runs her business in a very professional manner and does everything herself! She takes pride in my children and I love that! After experiencing Solid Hip Hop and what J.R. Does here, I would never be able to recommend anyone to go to a "studio" again. Not to mention, the connections she has with all of these performance venues! My children get to dance everywhere including the LA Clipper Half time show, and she does not only take the "advanced" all dancers and children are included, and somehow she still manages to pull off a professional show! My son has been going to Solid Hip Hop for only 8 months, and I have to tell you... wow. I don't yelp. But I have to in this case... the owner J.R. and her staff are so great with the dancers. My son is only 8, and the way she connects to him is amazing. He has learned so much in such a short amount of time. J.R. concentrates on if the kids are really learning. Your child won't play around here, J.R. cares if they are really learning meanwhile while they have so much fun. Her technique for teaching is one of a kind, and it's not surprising because she has been open for 16 years. I have searched for a school that actually teaches. I found it with Solid. You get what you pay for here. The pricing is low when it comes to the fact that you are getting a true made professional. Come to Solid if you want real hip hop. The training and love Solid will give to your child is priceless. They have a ton of boys too! read more

I don't "Yelp" a lot, but in this case, I feel the need to share my completely positive experience with J.R. and her Solid Hip Hop dance instruction. I bought a deal online for my daughter to try out her classes and we LOVE everything about them. First off, she is a genuine artist-from the heart, a joyful instructor that is CRAZY great with her students. She learns their names almost immediately, she gets them to feel the music, and she is an awesome dancer. After taking combo classes with over-priced recital dresses and feeling like a "Dance Mom" I finally feel really good about what my girl is getting out of her class. There are as many boys as there are girls, she is patient, fun, encouraging, positive, and just a beautiful soul. Obviously, I highly recommend the class.. After the 4 week trial period, we are so happy to keep going. read more

I can't say enough about Solid Hip Hop! This is real hip hop and you can't find a more qualified professional environment. I have two girls ages 14 and 16. One a beginner and one advanced and Solid has an excellent program for both. J.R. and Kelsi are so great with the all of the kids. They not only teach so much technique but they really connect personally with each child. My girls look up to J.R. so much and love Going to class. We are headed to nationals and my daughter has a chance to audition for World of Dance. J.R. brings more performance opportunities then I've ever seen, including LA Clipper game and more. In my opinion, she should be investigated for the promotion of child abuse through exploitation. The teacher put videos of our kids on social media wearing bras and dancing proactively. Unacceptable. Our daughter has been in 8 classes. It was a very problematic experience and I wish I could have stayed in just one class to see what they had my daughter do. I work and so does my wife, our time is compromised and we wanted to find an enjoyable class our kids could do during this pandemic. My son Dylan started with Solid Hip Hop at age 4! Music has always been a passion of his he is now almost 8 and still with J.R. Progressing more than I could imagine at his age he truly loves going every week . There is nothing better than seeing your son or daughter on stage in front of hundreds doing what they love.
