The cold brew here is multi dimensional and so good ($4.50 + tax). I love how the taste really permeates and motivates me. Definitely coming back as it is good. As previous reviewers mentioned, there is no wifi and also the vibe is more catch up with friends and read a book vs a working cafe. Seriously obsessed and have only been to a few other cafes that have the same standards as Solid State. Great little coffee spot. It looks tiny but there is seating in the back. Walk in and place your order at the counter; drinks are handed out at the bar but if you order food you'll get a number to take to your table. On a hot July morning my husband and I stopped in for iced lattes and breakfast. The coffee was the perfect amount of bitter with the right balance of milk and ice. The croissant was great. Very cute, quaint new spot on the Upper West Side. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about their coffee. It was interesting to learn about the farmers and their beans. My mocha and (I'm a mocha snob) I ordered with oat milk it was just OK. Unfortunately, the chocolate was not mixed well so it was clumpy. I could get a good gauge of the coffee either. I was excited to stop by. Disappointed in the coffee -- it was bitter and lukewarm. Also the guy at the counter was frankly rude. For example at the counter he offered me a side of milk for my coffee which I gratefully accepted -- I poured in his presence -- i started to leave and he called me back and asked me -- rather, told me -- to bus the dish for him. I always bus my table but it's not my responsibility to bus his counter. Why do I bother tipping? Giving it 3 stars because it's a non chain cafe and we need more of those. Great shop! I've been here before many times. Each time has been awesome. I've gotten their espresso and it's SOLID....as well as an iced oat latte . Every time the person behind the counter has been super friendly and nice ..oh and if nobody is there behind the counter just give a shout out to the back because there is some legit in house roasting going on there. A charming spot off of Columbus, tucked away on the bottom floor of an brownstone. What's immediately apparent is the love that the staff have for coffee, and how easily their experience is communicated when you're trying to decide on what to get. They have a nice selection of different beans that they roast on site, with your standard faire of execution: lattes, cappuccinos, and more. Actually, had my first cortada here, and it's certainly a drink I can recommend! Bitterness balanced with subtle almost fruity flavors was a great experience. They also have a small selection of baked goods, so if you need a quick snack, it's very convenient. Sarah was a delight to chat with, and very knowledgeable about her work! She was able to distill the many different options of what was available to a few choice ones based on my preferences. Only reason it's 4 stars is just the price. I know that the quality is certainly worth it, but if you're looking for a big coffee to nurse while walking through the park, this won't tick that box. And while the additional milk substitute charge is certainly understandable, it does start to add up after lots of visits.
