Stumptown is the OG of craft coffee in NYC. They strike the perfect balance of quality, vibe and service. I am basic and have one of their seasonal specialty lattes every time (highly recommend the stick toffee pudding latte!) but for serious coffee snobs they offer pour overs and rotate their beans often. I also love that their drinks automatically use oat milk (without up-charging) unless otherwise specified. I really enjoy this location because you can chill in the ACE hotel lobby after, which is dimly lit and homey. As is the case with every coffee shop in New York, I wish I wasn't paying nearly 10 bucks for a latte. But these are the times we live in. Either way, I keep coming back! read more

Stumptown has a few locations in the city - I was in the area and checked out the Koreatown location on a weekday morning. There wasn't too long a line but most of the bar seating was occupied. I ordered the rose gold latte which was pretty good - while overly sweet for my preferences, the espresso was pulled well and the milk steamed perfectly! The baristas were extremely snippy though which contributed to an unpleasant experience. They called out a different order multiple times, then someone pointed at me and said to pick up my drink. I asked if it was what I ordered (a rose gold latte with oat) and they rolled their eyes at me and said I kid you not "it's whatever you ordered." Then why did they bark out an almond milk latte multiple times? I was extremely confused and while it was indeed my order, felt weird that they were annoyed with me for not picking up a drink that did not belong to me. They could have just said "I meant to say your order" and that would have been it. read more

Attached to the Ace Hotel, this Stumptown offers a reliable cup of coffee if you are in the neighborhood. This is usually where I will get coffee if I'm staying in the hotel and decide to go for convenience rather than venture out to another cafe. It's a relatively small shop, with some bar seating available (however, you could also try sitting in the hotel lobby if cafe seating is tight). I've tried the drip coffee and espresso-based drinks and found the quality to be consistently good. There can be a bit of a line when the cafe is busy, but the employees work efficiently. read more

I got the matcha special but i would just recommend the regular matcha. the special was a bit strangely floral like eating soap air refresher. the interior was very nice, there's a hole back room with tons of seating to work or chit chat. most people had laptops when i went on a saturday early afternoon. read more

It's one of those places where it thinks its stuff is so good that it gets a free pass for meh service. I first assumed that the barista simply has RBF but she gave me cold glances more than once even when handing me my drink lol. Anyway, a well-done iced mocha here; super smooth coffee taste with the perfect coffee-to-milk ratio. Could've had more chocolate syrup in it but maybe that's me wanting an uncommon heavy-handling of the syrup. Small pastry display case here but the chocolate croissant that I impulse bought was very tasty (amazing rich dark chocolate shavings in it) and crispy. One-and-done visit for me but if you don't really care about service quality and just want a sorta-pricy-but-still-kinda-warrants-the-price cup of joe then it's worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

It's low acidity and the coffee is so smooth. This is a large it is a bit on the pricier side but it worth every penny! I'm a cold brew drinker exclusively round and this place has the best! It's no frills, because it doesn't have to give you a million flavors to let you know it's good. You get all of the taste from the sip that you take. And if you need some flavor, their vanilla is unlike anything you've tried... trust me, it's well worth the walk to find it. read more

This is a coffee shop located inside the lobby of the Ace Hotel. Just like the hotel itself, it has a hipster vibe to it. In fact, both companies are from Portland. The coffee is good quality and better than a chain like Starbucks. As a coffee shop though, it cannot be considered as such. There is no seating at all and it is cramped and narrow. This is just a place to grab and go and in the morning, and the line is too long. Think of this place more as one of those little stalls you see in a train station. read more

1/1 Ambience; 1.5/2 Beverages; 1/1 Service; 0.5/1 Value I stumbled in one early morning in a panic trying to find a strong quality coffee in Midtown minutes before I was scheduled to take a medical licensing exam. The cafe was almost empty at 7 AM, but the barista recognized and acknowledged my panic and she was so helpful in navigating an appropriate drink for me. She was also super quick in preparing it. The service was impeccable! This location is in the lobby of the ACE hotel, and was rather pretty with elegant wood details and lots of big windows for natural light. There is limited standing space by the windows and no space to sit down. It does seem like a pleasant space to be in and people-watch for some moments. I asked the barista on her opinion of the strongest beverage that I could sip throughout the day, so she gave me an iced latte with a double shot. The espresso flavor was rich, but not as robust as I normally like. Combined with testing anxiety, I think it's safe to say I was pretty wired even after 8 hours of testing! While the coffee is good, I do think the price:size ratio is steep even for Midtown. I forgot to take photos in the rush and anxiety, but I'll probably be back given the wonderful service and experience! read more

We dropped by here in the morning before running our errands for the day. There's no seating inside so it's more of a to-go kind of place. I ordered a hot matcha latte which tasted so good since it was like 20 degrees outside! There wasn't anything too special about the place and it was a little overpriced for the size being about $7. I wouldn't call myself a coffee aficionado other than my cup of Cafe Bustelo in the morning but this is definitely my favorite coffee shop in NYC. They produce their own coffee beans, have a great selection of staples and a seasonal rotating menu like Rose Lattes, Maple Spice Latte, Lavender Matcha which is what I'm having today but my go to is a Mocha Almond Milk Latte. Their whole entire team is awesome, very great demeanor and quick! The cafe is pretty small, but the entry way to the hotel for a calm sit down is a plus! read more

I ended up getting the Large Cold Brew with their homemade Rose Gold Honey Syrup which Matthew really enjoyed, but it was a bit too sweet for my liking - but I still drank it all (obviously!). read more

And I'm from Maryland (Murlyn), I don't mean a sno-ball. I mean that flaky, instantly melting ice carved mechanically using some kind of drill motor with all the torque, off a block the size of a dorm fridge and then topped with syrupy fruits and condensed milk and such. And this wasn't that either, but I now need to find a place for this near me. It was more like regular ice cream at a soft-serve consistency, topped with all the things-- that part was as expected. Hubs & I were thinking of getting two different things but we both wanted the mango madness, and then the checkout person said it was the size of a quart container. So just one then. I wish we got to see it being made up but it was full in there (at 10p, after the theaters let out), and they seated us and gave us a buzzer that went off almost immediately. We almost didn't finish it even between the two of us. Absolutely delicious, just overwhelmingly enormous. It could be a low-grade food challenge to complete it! And with all that fruit, actual mango chunks and a banana, it's practically a healthy snack. Gotta find one of these closer to home!

I was at this quaint tea shop east of Koreatown earlier in the evening before going to a meal at the excellent new Thai place, Wanglang. The staff was very friendly, and they specialize in matcha, along with having hojicha, genmaicha, black tea, and sencha. Along with more traditional drinks, they also have fruit options as well as black sugar jelly (I presume kuromitsu) and a Japanese citrus that's not seen much here, hyuganatsu. Along with the citrus, this place is rather unique as they had three different matcha options in terms of variety. As I tend to prefer teas pure and without add-ons, I ordered the Matcha Americano, which is simply matcha and water. I went with the 12-oz version for $6 + tax and ordered the Hajime, though I would likely get the Fuku No Midori next time based on descriptions online. The matcha was solid and had a mild sweetness and a light earthiness. However, it lacked some of the mouth coating found in very high-quality drinks from Sorate or Setsugekka, while being similar in price. Still, that is comparing to some of the best, and this was still very tasty and a lot better than 90% of the places in the city, being more comparable to Kettl. I wouldn't mind going back and ordering the other matcha varietal to see whether that is a better comparison. Outside of this, I enjoyed my drink, and the staff was friendly. I hope they do well.

The rose fragrant smelled so good and the milk tea also tasted good and has a hint of rose taste. The cake was good, the boba was well cooked, chewy and flavorful! This time there was an unpleasant experience. At first when the Dubai affogato was served, we did not realize that the amount of the coffee was little until we saw another customer's dish that the volume of their coffee looked significantly more than ours. My friend brought it to the waitress attention but the waitress brushed it off and did not acknowledge our concern. When we finished and were about to leave, the same waitress came over and showed us that the container of the coffee was different and hence the volume of the coffee looked different. At this point, we did not care for it anymore. We would have been fine if the staff acknowledged our concern. We thought that maybe using standardized containers for the coffee would avoid this problem. Other than that, the food and drinks were good.
