I love Afficionado! Great place for a drink or baked goods. The Daddy Latte is my fave. Vegan carrot cake muffin is delicious, go early because it does sell out. If you need a place to sit down and read, this is perfect. It's decent seating for the area. During the warmer months they have outdoor seating as well, plus you can always go across the street and relax at the park too! The service is great. Everyone I've ever interacted with has been amazing. PS: little inside baseball - sometimes if you come later in the afternoon, they'll offer baked goods to patrons in the shop. Really fantastic coffee and lovely vibes! I had the Cardamom latte and it was one of the best coffees I've had in a while. Service here is honestly very kind and caring - much nicer than walking into a starbucks and having a bunch of people who don't completely care about your order and are just following directions. TLDR: If you love single origin coffee and coffee in general, this is one of the best spots in NYC. I love coffee. So much so that I've done various coffee farm experiences abroad to learn how it's grown, harvested, and processed. So when I walked into Afficionado for the first time, I was extremely excited. Afficionado is a celebration of coffee. In addition to their great single origin selection, they have a tea made from coffee leaves, a carbonated ginger beverage made with the skins that cover coffee beans (my personal favorite) and a cherry-cranberry-like drink made from cascara or the fruit of the coffee plant. I don't know another place in NYC that's like this. I really enjoy their pastries as well. I forgot where they're sourced, but I enjoy the chocolate chip cookie and the cinnamon kouign amann that reminds me of the Starbucks morning bun. Their breakfast sandwiches are also great. Overall: one of my absolute favorite places for coffee in NYC and if you love coffee as much as I do, this will be yours as well. read more

Cozy and tucked away on the west side of town, Afficionado has a lovely, calm atmosphere with some fun chairs and soft seating for hanging out and a few tables for doing work. I got an iced Americano, which was pretty good and standard, but I was really impressed by the smoked salmon baguette. The portion is incredibly generous, and I was very impressed by the thick slices of salmon atop a delicious sesame Jerusalem baguette. For $13.25, I felt like this was quite the steal for that much fresh fish! In terms of the trifecta I look for in coffee shops to study in: wifi bathroom outlets? There aren't too many seats inside, and it gets busy during the midday of weekends. Also can be a bit of a walk from the subway, but I prefer that because it feels secluded. The only thing is that when I was sitting at the long middle table, there was a radiator underneath that kept vibrating the table and my hands the entire time. Coffee here depends on the barista they have for the day. The last 4 times I went there, I tried caramel/vanilla latte with or without oatmilk and americano. Today, I went for the 5th time to get 3 caramel lattes. The barista who had a mustache and glasses did a terrible job. There was an uneven amount of three coffee - one was a full cup, second had a little less, and third almost had 1/4 of coffee missing. Two out of three didn't even taste like caramel latte. Let alone service was crap. This could be upsetting because coffee prices are a bit high compared to other local areas. This coffee shop has their espresso ready before. I don't know how long before but the two times I ordered i got it within 2 seconds. The first time wasn't bad. I ordered iced latte and it was decent. But the second time, the espresso was really watery so my iced latte tasted like just milk. I told the barista and she told me to order iced cortado instead next time, which wasn't my point. Also she just poured extra shot on my latte without even asking me and the latte still tasted watery, which proved that the espresso wasn't decent. I don't think their coffee is bad.
