Stopped into Seven Grams Coffee on Madison Avenue for a quick espresso and it was a solid experience. Service was fast and efficient, which is always appreciated. They added sugar automatically, which I didn't mind since I usually take a little anyway, but it was a bit unexpected. Not a dealbreaker, just something worth noting. The vibe was great! clean, relaxed, and importantly not overrun with laptops, if you know what I mean. That alone makes it stand out a bit in Manhattan. I usually don't love some of the more pretentious coffee spots in the area, but this one surprised me. I'd definitely consider coming back. read more

Now I'm not really a coffee person, but I AM a cookie person! Seven Gram serves up some seriously tasty treats- stopped by on a weekend afternoon and got a chai latte and a matcha cookie. The chai latte was okay but that cookie... wow! Nice and soft and chewy with some gooey bits of white chocolate, this was a spectacular cookie. They are known for their cookies, so you can pick up packs of them as well (they also sell their own coffee beans, but roast dates seemed to be on the older side, like 1~2 months ago) Plenty of seating for a Manhattan cafe, which is definitely helpful. read more

Stopped in here to kill some time before meeting up with a friend. I heard about their famous chocolate chip cookie so I decided to grab two (one for me and one for my friend) and a cortado to drink. The total came to $19.05 which (unfortunately) is the going price for two cookies and a drink these days! However, I did have some sticker shock when I asked for a bag (so I didn't have to carry my friend's cookie in my hand) and I was charged an additional 50 cents via a separate transaction. The bag was paper too, yikes! Notwithstanding the overpriced bag, the coffee and cookie were DELICIOUS. The cookie might be one of my favorites in the city. The texture of the cookie is such that it is gooey on the inside even if it isn't warmed up. There is also ample seating available and a water spout with cups which I thought was polite and inviting. Came here for a drink and cookie and it's a nice cafe! The inside of the cafe was super busy when I went, so I was unable to grab a seat. While it might be great for catching up with friends, it might not be the best for getting work done/studying as it was quite loud. I got one of their matcha lattes and a matcha cookie, and it was good! The matcha latte was pretty standard, but the cookie was the perfect balance of crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. The croissants are worth five stars. This isn't about them, they have the best almond croissants. Well actually, it kind of is. Part of the reason for the low score is I can never seem to get my hands on one. So on this trip, like many others, I had to settle for the chocolate almond croissant. It's a perfectly fine croissant, but the plain almond is truly next level and I feel like the chocolate is just doing too much. You would think if it's a popular item (which it seems to be), they would make more, but for whatever reason they refuse. Anyway... the lattes are what I have a real issue with (and the reason for the low-ish) rating. Maybe it's truly me and not them, but I hate when my shots are layered and not properly incorporated, which seems to be the move at Seven Grams. On this particular trip, I tried the tiramisu latte. I was super excited, but it was a dub. There was next to no sweetness or complexity. The cold foam was crazy thick, and all I could taste was marscarpone. And the real kicker was for two tiramisu lattes and a chocolate almond croissant, I paid nearly $40. That means those lattes were around $15!!! As a fellow barista, I get the labor and the ingredients that go into this aren't cheap, but that's a lot of money to spend only to be disappointed. Suffice it to say, I think I have to break up with Seven Grams (or maybe Seven Grams was trying to break up with me all along). It's true, the cookies here are amazing. I tried the chocolate chip, which somehow manages to be soft and sort of gooey while also having a fluffy, cake like consistency. It's a bit crispy and ever-so-slightly slightly over baked on the outside, which I like. The cookie is not overly sweet. The iced flat white was smooth and tasty and mildly sweet on its own, so I didn't add any sugar and didn't miss the lack of Splenda too much. I recently stopped by in the afternoon for a snack, and got a cortado and their classic chocolate chip cookie. There's plenty of seating inside, which makes it a great place to chill and hang with friends. The cortado had a really off-putting smell and taste to it; it almost felt plasticey to me, which obviously isn't great. The mouthfeel was good, but couldn't really get past the weirdness of the taste. The cookie was quite unique; super high rise, crispy exterior, and very gooey interior. The exterior crisp is quite delicate, and easily snaps; this was definitely my favorite part of the cookie. The interior was too gooey for me, and there was actually quite a subtle but definitely present baking soda flavor. I feel like they added too much to achieve that super crispy exterior, which threw me off a bit. Will probably still stop by in the future to give it another try! read more
