I have wanted to try this restaurant for years, but never had -- until this week. I took some friends out to celebrate a retirement. The covered patio are is lovely and very comfortable. Our server was charming and helpful with suggestions and answering questions. The food was great! I had the small plate taster, a perfect sampler if you have a smaller appetite, with pierogi, kielbasa and mustard, a potato pancake, and cucumber salad. My companions had the ravioletti, the chicken paprikash, and the hunter's stew (bigos), and had nothing but praise. I'll definitely be back! read more

Truly awesome polish food. Great drinks. Great service. Nice outdoor seating. The pierogies are perfectly prepared. The kielbasa? Legendary. So why 5 stars? The $$$$, not $$$ price. Drinks and happy hour apps, and mains and shared desserts for 4? $100pp. with tip. They also try to get you to tip on the total, not the sub. First? Tax is not tippable. Not a class move. Second? At these prices, the tip, on the tax, sends the total up even higher. I've eaten pretty reasonably on my trip to LA. This is outrageous, for any Polish place. Period. We love stuffed cabbage, but some places make the worst. This is true of many Polish eateries so we are picky. Here at Solidarity, we have now found the best stuffed cabbage you will ever have. It is just great. All the food is great. We also had, HOMEMADE PIEROG which was so great. and we tried tried their BIGOS - Hunter's Stew, which is beef, kielbasa, mushrooms and cabbage stew. Their LAMB DUMPLINGS which is lamb filled pasta with spicy Dijon sauce. They have a cheesecake and a chocolate cake which is delightful. There is not one thing we did not love. The service is great. They will help you with the menu and make a suggestion if you want. They are fast, but you are not rushed. Make a reservation. It really is a must I think. Met friends here for dinner on a Saturday. Our party of four enjoyed the cup of flaczki or tripe soup, pork schnitzel, sampler of eight pierogi, seasonal blueberry pierogi as dessert, mint herbal tea, and a basil smash mocktail. Some of us originally came from Poland. While many dishes were good, the menu felt more like an American Polish fusion. The schnitzel could have used more seasoning such as black pepper. Replace gnocchi by leniwe pierogi (lazy dumplings) that are similar and authentically Polish. It would be good to serve herbal tea sourced from Poland, for more authenticity. There is a Polish tradition of herbal teas, and many teas are grown commercially. For example, Poland grows mint and makes mint tea. read more

Great spot with cool vibes. The patio was spacious with another separate area meant for private or larger gatherings. This is a dog friendly place, which is awesome. The servers were awesome. They came with great recommendations that did not disappoint. I ordered the Polish Old Fashioned which had what tasted like a hint of cinnamon. It was very good. The various Pierogi consisted of cheese, beef, pork and chicken; all very tender and juicy. My Mushroom Gnocci was delightful and rich with flavor. We drove an hour to eat here. My wife is half Polish. It was well worth the drive. This restaurant is a hidden gem. It's quaint and relaxing. I love their decor, atmosphere, and ambiance. We sat on the patio, which was lovely. LJ was our server-- a nice guy. Service was very prompt; he was friendly and attentive. The other servers and staff were also friendly. Good people. Solidarity has been around for quite a while and I had no idea. Their back patio is sort of a hidden gem as you would never know it was there from the street and it was so unassumingly cute. It's perfect for a bigger group as we saw quite a few there. We started with the warm bread with olive tapenade. It was simple yet wonderful, and a nice snack to go with our martinis. This Polish restaurant features classic dishes like stroganoff, golabki, chicken paprikash and bigos. I am a sucker for a schnitzel so I went with the chicken version (pork is also available) and enjoyed it with their extra buttery and smooth mashed potatoes. read more

Overall very really liked Solidarity. Has a wonderful outdoor patio, and there was another part of the patio we didn't even go in. You walk down the side of the restaurant and it suddenly opens up in to a very large area with some tables, but also a lot of space to be able to walk around and mingle (went for an event). The drinks we great, a little on the sweeter side, but not overly so. Not sure if they weren't super staffed, but the back bar wasn't always attended, but staff was quick to see someone was waiting and come out and help. Tried some of the pierogi. They were good, some of the flavors were better than others. A little pricey I thought, but I am sure they are hand made. Curious about their other food. The cocktail pricing was exactly the price you would expect in LA. Would definitely go for a drink again for the vibe of the back patio. read more

As a German-American who loves food from that part of the world, I've watched with dismay as all of the restaurants that had German food I actually liked have shut down one by one. I had actually forgotten all about Solidarity, even though I went there once many years ago and recall loving the food. I somehow thought it had shut down, so I was excited to discover that it's still around. I went there hopeful but prepared for disappointment, since I have high standards when it comes to Central European food, having been all over the entire region numerous times. Happily, I was not disappointed. Not only was all of our food great, but the waitstaff was friendly and attentive and the ambience was fun (we chose to sit by a firepit outside, pulling up the small tables so we had someplace other than the firepit itself to put our dishes on). We ordered loads of food and took half of it home, so today we're happily eating the leftovers. Specifically, we ordered the bread basket, which comes with unsalted butter (yay!) and tapenade; the tasting platter (everything included was loved by either my daughter, myself or both of us); the chicken schnitzel with a spaetzle substitution for the mashed potatoes (the schnitzel was enormous); and the hunter's stew (cabbage, kielbasa and very tender stew beef in a tomato-y sauce; think cabbage rolls but with better meat). I loved the hunter stew so much that I will probably go back again for it next week during Dine LA. They also have a good selection of alcoholic beverages and my kid was happy that they offered her favorite non-alcoholic beverage, Shirley Temples. Sadly, we had no room left to try the desserts, but maybe next time. This was definitely a big hit and my only regret is that I didn't rediscover this place sooner (also that I forgot they have prunes wrapped in bacon, which was one of the most memorable dishes from when I visited years ago). The cabbage rolls tasted just like the lunches served in kindergarten in Poland 40 years ago so comforting, traditional, and full of nostalgia. Incredibly Gorgeous, Authentic and Delicious Polish restaurant serving some of the most delicious Eastern European delicacies in LA! My personal favorites are the uniquely fabulous Pickle soup and Cucumber salad, which I have only had at this spot. I love the remarkably fabulous and friendly staff who are always so nice, friendly and attentive. The ginormous, outdoor patio is incredible to chill with friends, host events and I absolutely love their Thursday evening 'Yappy Hours' , which is for humans and their Doggie friends too! I have been to Solidarity many times and am always happy with the food. I love pierogies and love getting the sampler platter to share as an appetizer, especially the potatoe and cheese pierogie. The outside patio is always decorated super cute and the menu often updates especially with seasonal cocktails. On my last visit I had a warm spiked cider with a cinnamon stick that was absolutely delicious. However my favorite thing on the menu is a newer item, their pickle soup! It is creamy with a hint of dill and chunks of potato and very small slivers of picked veggies. For the pickle lover in your life you use have them try this soup. I also want to give an honorable mention to their stroganoff with spaetzle. The meat and sauce have such great flavor and the spaetzle is done really well. Wow! Such a cute hidden gem in Santa Monica. As a fellow Slav myself, I can say that this restaurant hits home with the flavors . Our group tried the perogi , nalisniki, schnitzel, and latkes.. all were incredible . I also wanted to mention how attentive the service was- we had a large group that came for happy hour and they were really patient, polite, and helpful. The best part of this restaurant is that they have a large patio that permits dogs. We will definitely be coming back here and can't wait to try other items on their menu. read more

My fiancé and I had a wonderful dinner at Solidarity last night. The Small Plate Starter is a great way to get a taste of different polish foods to try out. The main courses were both flavorful and filling. And despite how extremely full I felt from the main course foods, we got dessert that was also delicious. I'm not a big chocolate person, but when I saw it on the menu, I thought the vanilla sauce would offset the chocolate well. When I tasted the cake I was pleasantly surprised by how moist it was. The restaurant was quite busy. We ended up being at the restaurant for 2 hours, but we honestly didn't mind. Our server was obviously working very hard and was apologetic for the delay, but the break between meals allowed for food to settle before the next round of food came around. And everything tasting delicious also makes the wait time worth having when the food comes out amazing. I would recommend this place to others and I'd be interesting in trying some of the dumpling options. read more

Our first time here after driving by a few times. Great ambiance, like an old fashioned neighborhood restaurant. This definitely was a residential home at one time - long ago. We started with a sampler platter which was comprised of two potato pancakes, two perrogi, some sausage and some sliced cucumber salad. We ordered the beef stroganoff to share which included broccoli and spaetzle. They brought Hunter's stew by mistake, and replaced that with the stroganoff. The meat in the stroganoff was extremely tender but didn't resemble the kind of stroganoff that we were used to. There was a lot of meat but no mushrooms, onions or sour cream sauce. I could not love this restaurant more!! As a Polish gal, I have pretty high standards for Polish food (I always thought my babci did it best), but this place is phenomenal! The food is delicious, the atmosphere cozy, and the staff are all helpful and kind. The borscht was the perfect thing to order on a cold January night. I love this place, it's perfect to get authentic Polish food. I've been coming for years, and my Polish grandma LOVES it! This place was SO good!! Really didn't know much about it other than that it was Polish and therefore a great place to support. The food was 5/5, delicious! Portions are large and really fairly priced. The appetizer combo plate was great. Perfect for sharing. Cocktails were fresh and delicious! The deserts were also really good. The ambiance was 5/5 too. Super cute indoor/outdoor feel. We went with my gf and her two young daughters. They were very kind and offered coloring pages and crayons. Also had a kids menu available. Went here with family for the second time and I got the stuffed cabbage with a side of pierogi. The stuffed cabbage was a bit undercooked (just the cabbage! meat was fine) so it was a little tough to chew through. Maybe as a Polish person I'm a little hard on this place but my fam and I had high expectations lol!! The pierogi were good, good flavor and cooked right. Service was okay this time, I had asked for a spoon and then the waiter walked around for like 20+ minutes, making eye contact with me multiple times, and then just hanging out with his coworkers and chatting it up for like 10+ minutes??? I had to ask another waiter who wasn't even assigned to us. We've been to Santa Monica many times and have seen this restaurant dozens of times but we've never been because it is a dinner only establishment. We went on a Sunday night and only the back patio was open for seating. Beautiful patio and great ambiance...honestly the front of the building doesn't do the rest of the place justice. As a family of five, we decided to order many of items from the meal including cucumber salad, kielbasa appetizer, pierogi sampler x 2, cabbage roll entree, and potato pancakes. Honestly, the food was great and was enjoyed by all. Best pierogis were the potato/cheese and beef. Chicken was OK. Service was fine. You could tell servers were more interested in locals and others. As outsiders and with children, they weren't as attentive as they were to others in the restaurant. However, the food was served quickly and hot. We would definitely go again! read more

What a Santa Monica staple this beautiful place is! We had our school holiday gathering just the other day, Friday from 5-7pm in the gorgeous patio space surrounded by many well cared for plants. There were heat lamps everywhere and kept us all nice and toasty! We had about 40 people and everyone was so impressed with the ambiance. Some of our guests have been here many times, but there were a lot that have lived in SM and never got around to coming...so they were very excited about this! Food: Delicious! All the dishes we had were so tasty and flavorful. Meat, vegetarian and Gluten Free options were available to our party. There was a table set up with a heat lamp to keep our light bites warm. The service was on point helping to keep our area clean. Beth helped me pick the right combo of items: Pierogi Sampler HH (1/2 are vegetarian), Bacon Wrapped Prunes (Gluten Free), Potato Pancakes (vegetarian), Kielbasa Plate HH (Gluten Free), Mizeria (Cucumber Salad) - vegetarian & gluten free. Drinks: The team had a table set up with our non-alcoholic beverages and kept everything nice and organized for us. Cocktails: We had to order these separately as our school funding does not cover this item for the event. The drinks were great and I enjoyed a Hot Toddy! Our group had about 40 people and I worked with Beth from the Solidarity team. Beth was so quick and gracious to work with. Everything was answered and she helped think of ways to cater to our needs. Came here for a social lingo event and that was fun! Would recommend, saw a bunch of unique languages (I was trying to practice mandarin but was feeling a bit introverted so didn't really get myself out there). But enough about social lingo, let's get down to solidarity. Super cool vibes, i like the outside area a lot. Kind of loud so for folks like me with terrible hearing, could be harder to hear conversations for the dining area near the bar. Drinks were fair, I just ordered tequila soda. Kielbasa was okay, a bit bland but I'm not an aficionado of polish food. Pierogis were good as well. I've heard the place is authentic but up to you to decide. Service was prompt and really nice. I've gone to Solidarity 3 times over the last few years and it never disappoints. The ambiance is very fun, the restaurant appears to be a renovated home with tables in different rooms and more tables in the outside area in the back. We made it a date night the first time, brought some friends the 2nd and brought family the third. We got the Small Plate Tasters to split amoung 2 people the last two times and it was the perfect way to try a bunch of polish favs like pierogies, plackis, kielbasa and cucumber salad. All was super tasty and in total it's the perfect started, not too filling but still a good amount of food. For Mains my favorite item has been the lamb dumplings but the goat cheese dumplings and the schnitzel are both great as well. My husband loved the Beef Stroganoff with streedded beef and my brother-in-law said that the Hunter's Stew was great. All highly recommended. We didn't make it to desert because we've been too full after eating starts & mains but they have a decent sized menu with crapes and chocolate cake. The only con of this place is that parking can be a pain but there are options street and lots if you do some driving around or look before you go. read more

Still has the pierogis, although being vegetarian, I got the cheese dumplings, which was delicious. Their wine list is quite good. I was there less than an hour and didn't even get a chance to order dessert. When we questioned it, we were told "two hours is enough". Glad that decision was made for us. Ended up dropping by for my first time because there was a speed dating event being hosted here. If you're driving, there is a small lot to the right side of the restaurant but it could be a hit or miss but Santa Monica has a lot of public parking lots nearby so parking shouldn't really be a problem. At first, you don't really know what you're going to expect but as soon as you walk in, you are greeted with a dimly lit outside garden vibe. Perfect for a date, dinner with friends, or an event! I had the pleasure of meeting Matthew the host last night and he was the sweetest! He was able to make some recommendations of the Warsaw vodka mule, stuffed cabbage, side of Mizeria, and the small plate taster! Ended up getting all three. The mule was similar to a Moscow mule but a bit sweeter, they embellish it with fresh rosemary which made it pleasantly fragrant! To my surprise, I really ended up liking the stuffed cabbage because it was very juicy, but also hearty. If you are vegan or vegetarian, they do have a plant-based option, which I hear to be very good as well! it came with a side of mashed potatoes and broccoli, and sat on top of what tasted like a tomato based sauce. The side of mizeria (sliced cucumbers) was super refreshing paired with the stuffed cabbage, glad I got it as it acted as a palate cleanser. If you're wanting to try a variety of things, I definitely would recommend the plate taster, as it gives you a tasting of a bunch of things on the menu and is perfect for a 1 person meal. Throughout the night, Matthew kept checking in and making sure that my friend and I were very well attended to, couldn't ask for a better host! Thank you! ine of the worse experience, my fiance and i had. at the beginning everything was going very well. we order our first round of drinks in which was way over pourd. we sent my fiancees drink back cuz she couldn't drink it. yes how complained abiut that you would say! we kept eating until desert came along. we didn't like u couldn't even cut it. we asked our server what was it and why it was like that. hes answer was "it is like that because it is gluten free" but we respond to him we dont want gluten free. my fiance is fill polish citizen he grew up there shr has made the same food at home so she knows. than the manager in which was wearing shorts and a t-shirt was not professional at all. said to us i dont know why you dont like it, all the employees here tried it and they love it. my answer was of course they love, they will do and say anything to keep their job. than we askex for another drink, guess what he supposed to be manager cut us off. saying that we gad enough to drink. than i asked him u know u already over served us drink , and just because we complained about something you cut us off!? i asked him about the abc rules of course he didnt have a clue. to the onwer of this establishment i would recommend to enforce a better dress code at least for the ones that act like managers. for sure never goin back there . and to this manager thank you for ruin our celebration. read more

I went a couple weeks ago and as always LOVED IT!! Chris was our server. HILARIOUS THIS GUY!!! He has really nice skin btw :) Anyway Chris's service was EXCELLENT!!! Just as awesome as in Poland, (sorry Chris, but the service I got I. Poland was amazing!! BUT, YOU ARE MORE FUN!! ) Joseph was wonderful and very laid back which I loved. He turned the fire pit on for us. And of course, the star of the whole dang place, the chef, Piotr. Very friendly and very gracious. I recommend taking his pierogi making class.
