I've really been wanting to try this place but every time I drive by it is closed. Any update on if it is still open or if it has set hours?

This is a nice minority owned small business that serves coffee and pastries. The owner was running things while I was there and he was very friendly and helpful. The shop is kind of retro and has a small dining area that you can enjoy your purchases it. I will admit, the pastries did not look too appealing to me. They looked like they had been there a while. They have a small coffee menu that is direct and to the point. My friend order a coffee Americano and I asked the barista for something sweet and tasty. He suggested a Somali tea. It did not take long for us to get our drinks. My friend said his was good. Much better than the chain coffee shop that starts with S. Mine was good too. It was piping hot. I had to let it cool down a bit, before I could fully enjoy it. This shop has some very reasonable prices. You can't beat them. It has great ownership and a cozy/quaint dining area. I recommend checking this place out if you are in the area.

Perfect for a cold winter day. I also like trying the variety of Somalian baked goods. They are not as sweet as American ones, which I appreciate, but they are delicious and keep me coming back for more. The coffee shop is small, but inviting, and it's a special place that is worth a visit.

FYI to those who may have a physical handicap the prevents climbing steps, there are 2 sets of steps to enter the building, I didn't see any handicap accessible entry when I went there. The area to order coffee was really small and could comfortably fit about 5 people in the line inside the ordering station. There were places to stand in the foyer to wait as well, but in my opinion even though there is an open space in the foyer you could be potentially blocking someone's walking space since the ordering station is next to the entrance and the seating areas are in the entryway. I ordered their seasonal From the Past Latte w/ matcha and whole milk. They mentioned that the wait time to receive the drink was 10 minutes, which was understandable with how busy they were, but to my surprise I actually received my drink in half that time. The drink tasted great and if I was still in the area I'd go there again. I definitely noticed for such a small space, the staff were efficient and moved quickly to get everyone their correct orders. All of them were very cordial and professional as well, so that was appreciated.

It is an apartment building. I didn't do my research prior but learned that it used to be a psych ward. Kinda cool. I got their seasonal coconut lavender latte and a signature Sammy. The drink was great, the sandwich took way too long to prepare (we're talking 30 minutes, no joke). I was only annoyed bc I was so hungry, other than that- I didn't care about the wait bc I had nowhere to be. Overall- If I was in the neighborhood and craving a yummy coff treat, I'd return- I did really like my drink.

Great! And they stuck to that- we were seated on time, but then the issues started. We were sat at the same time as another table of 4 next to us. We got our menus and put our drinks in... and then waited, and waited... I got a hot chocolate that wasn't even hot when I sipped it, and tasted pretty bland. My friends got coffees that they liked, but our waitress seemed so annoyed to be working there! She was very curt and I understand if you're busy, but maybe try for some customer service... We ordered our food (as did the table next to us) and waited soooo long, like 30+ minutes, and we were considering flagging down the wait staff to ask about it, but our waitress never seemed to even be around to ask questions... anyway, we finally got the food, and it was tasty, but I just don't think I would bother with this place again.

There aren't enough adjectives to say that fully express how much I appreciate Founders Coffee/Speedway Garage! Getting to work remote from here throughout the week has also been an amazing option that I very much love having. I snagged a bar stool at a three top. I'd planned to write for a while, and it wasn't a very comfortable seat, but I made do. And I did enjoy all the natural light. Ordered a large matcha with coconut milk. They do have oat milk and almond milk as well--plus one for having dairy free options! I don't think I was charged extra for it either. (Thank you for that!) Their drink prices overall seemed very reasonable, and more affordable than several local coffee shops I've been to recently. I appreciated that! Other non-coffee options I noticed: hot teas, iced tea, chai. The matcha was good, but I kept getting this weird chemical-y smell from my drink? At first I thought it was the lid. Took that off, but still caught the smell whenever I took a sip. I think it was coming from the cup itself, like the inside white part. So when there was a lull, I took it back up to the register and explained because I couldn't drink it. They didn't offer to remake the drink, which I found kind of odd, but they gave me an iced coffee cup and I drank the rest of my thankfully not-too-hot-anymore matcha from it. I don't know what that was about, but it was unfortunate. Ended up moving to a round table in the side room to plug my laptop in after the battery died. It wasn't as "vibey" over there, but it was quieter/easier to focus, I had access to an outlet, and noticed no strange smells on that side, though my drink was gone by then. If you're coming here to talk or hang out, I think it's a good spot! If you're coming to work, I'd recommend having a fully charged laptop, beeline to the side room, and/or watch carefully for the tables near the limited outlets to free up in the main room. Street parking was pretty easy and free. I parked maybe halfway down Main St and walked. There were signs saying 3 hr parking on weekends, so planned my stay accordingly. I'm not usually in this area, so may or may not make it back. But it's definitely a popular spot with a good sized menu.

Same great staff, same cool space, same open kitchen where a party of one like me can grab a counter seat and watch the chefs do their thing. I've honestly always enjoyed that part of the experience. Today I had the avocado toast with feta and an egg on top, and it totally hit the spot. Earlier this week I tried one of the newer menu items -- fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, plus a sample of jalapeño cornbread and Asian slaw. Incredible comfort food. And as someone who normally isn't much of a slaw person, I was surprised by how much I loved it. They also tried to tempt me with the roast beef special, which honestly looked great, but at 10:30 in the morning I just couldn't fully commit to roast beef yet. Maybe next time. The new name is a nice tribute to the owner's mother, Arleen, but thankfully it still feels like the Milktooth so many of us have come to enjoy over the years. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't been in awhile.
