Wow! We just discovered this gem tonight and I already can't wait to go back! Wonderful service, prompt, friendly, and helpful with the questions I had. We started with the Paneer appetizer, which was awesome. Both sauces were wonderful, I couldn't decide which was the best. We then ordered the lamb biryani (huge portion!!!) and the fish curry (also large portion), along with some garlic naan. Every bite was so very good. We ate way too much! For desert we tried two options and they were both fantastic. Bonus points for having Coke products and the mix was one of the best we've had in Indianapolis. I always knew of this place but I did not know that they had lunch buffet. When I was walking by the other day, I saw a big sign that says lunch buffet $10.99. Sounds like a great deal and I love Indian food so I decided to try. This is a place to be when you have a big appetite. I was greeted and seated right away upon entering. The place is much bigger than I assumed by the looks of the entrance. Many tables available. Staff were dressed and acting professionally. For some reason the buffet area had little lighting and was dark, which is not very appetizing. But the food was good. I am a big fan of Tikka masala. Theirs is different than what I'm used to- in a good way! It is sweet, savory, tomatoey, creamy and smooth. It was addicting. I ate more than I should. Channa masala was very salty, so it's a no for me. Chicken curry was good too. But Tikka Masala won. I think this is great value especially considering this is in Downtown indy. The ambiance of the restaurant was quiet and elegant. We both had a variant of one of their major chicken dishes in sauce. They have at least a dozen selections, same for vegetarian and tandoori selections. Service was exceptionally fast and friendly. Highly recommended! Walked over for lunch the other day to try this spot for the first time. Apparently their buffet option was no longer in service during the pandemic but it is back now. $10.99 for the buffet which is a great deal. Do not set your expectations too high for the food. If you're going to a low-cost Indian buffet, you should have reasonable expectations. Rice is a little dry, sauces are runny, meat is okay on flavor. All fine with me. When I eat at a buffet, I'm looking for quantity of food, not quality. I ask myself, "how much chicken tikka masala and naan bread can fit inside a human stomach?" and then try to push that limit. The best part about setting appropriately low expectations for a place like this is that they surprise you with things. The service is great, a couple of the vegetable dishes were surprisingly delicious, and the restaurant makes it easy to get in and out so their patrons can get back to work quickly. Food is great especially for the price. I went for lunch and did the lunch special. (2 entries for $10). Entries are smaller than a standard entre but you can mix and match. I think you can get 3 entries for 12-$14. I did 2 chicken tikka masala's which comes with rice and naan. Naan is always fresh and amazing and the size of a flatbread pizza. India Garden, they could never make me hate you! India Garden is one of my go-to spots for flavorful vegetarian fare. Not everyone offers yummy meatless dishes that are both filling and flavorful. India Garden gets it right. I'm a huge fan of the Channa Masala, which makes chickpeas (which are NOT my favorite) a savory delight for the palate. I'll also never say no to one of their samosas. I've been going here for 20 years and while it's generally good, about a year ago it was amazing, if for a brief time. Like they hired someone new or had a new passion for the menu. Before Covid, they had a buffet and it was a great deal. It looks like the buffet went away and they serve a la carte only now. I tried ordering lunch combos via Uber Eats. The good news it is still a good deal but every time they either forgot to include a drink or put an incorrect drink in the bag. The naan bread had a bit of a rubbery texture and paneer masala was very watered down comparing to other Indian restaurants. We enjoyed our lunch here this past week. The chicken tikki was spot on, the tandoori was yummy as well. The veggie dish was just sparse, they need to put more veggies in it and a little less sauce. I wandered around downtown Indianapolis Indiana on a random Thursday afternoon in May 2023 and found an Indian restaurant that has awards from the local newspaper, among others, displayed near the entrance. Yup, I literally wandered in without the Yelp app to guide me. I wanted Indian for dinner during my short stay in downtown Indianapolis. It definitely wouldn't hurt picking up dinner here that serves up awards from the Indy Star. With that said, I arrived here by foot around 7:30pm and it wasn't busy at all. I ordered take out, which consisted of lamb madras curry with rice, an order of vegetable Samoas, 1 order of regular naan, and a cheese naan I wanted to try. The price was quite reasonable at $27 total with tax, since I've paid more locally at home. It would very likely be closer to $40 if done in Honolulu, where I am from, so the price difference is very much welcomed! I spent about a good 20 or so minutes here from ordering to pick up. The restaurant was so nice and elegant, but decided to eat in my hotel room versus at the restaurant. The ambiance at the restaurant was nice and quiet for sure. It was too bad that I didn't dine in though. It would have been lovely and nice. The service here was quite quick and friendly. The food itself was quite delicious as usual. It was interesting to have the vegetable samosas wrapped in tin foil versus a take out foam container. I guess it's either to save money or something else. Regardless of that, it was just great that I found this Indian restaurant in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. The overall experience here at the India Garden Indian restaurant was fast and good at the same time. While it was a take out affair, it would have been cool to dine in, but next time for sure if my travels permit me to return. They have many of the classic curries, appetizers, and an assortment of naans that will excite your taste buds. The curries are always a hit, I'm sure. I should have ordered two curries instead of one, since I had an early flight the next morning. Oh well. It is what it is. They accept major credit cards, as well as cash. As far as parking, I would assume that street parking is always a good thing, as there was plenty around the restaurant. Or maybe there are paid parking garages nearby you can park in. For myself though, I walked about 0.5 miles or so from my hotel on W Washington Street to get here. And walked back with the food in tow. There's also the IndyGo bus system to get you here, but best to look up the routes you need to get here from your location. And Uber / Lyft can be of assistance if you need to. However you get here, get here. Indian food is such a blessing! My son moved to Downtown Indy about a year ago. We were looking for a place to go tonight for dinner and my son suggested India Garden, so we all decided to go here for dinner. My son and his roommate have only ordered their food to go and said it was good. They were not wrong. This place is clean, the staff is very helpful and friendly. Found out tonight that they have been in business for over 23 years. I know why, the food is very good and flavorful. We started with Chicken Pakora as an appetizer. Then we moved to the main course: Tandoori Chicken (very nice), Lamb Curry (Really good), Chicken Tikka Masala (very tasty), Mixed Vegetables in (I think) a Korma Sauce (Wow very nicely prepared vegetables and the sauce was made with cashews - so it had a very nice creamy texture with a great flavor) - we ordered Garlic Naan to soak up all the sauces. Very nicely baked bread. This restaurant can accommodate small and large groups and also do a lot of catering if needed. Stop by if you want a good meal that won't break the bank either. Yep it's me! My daughter picked this spot for dinner on a late Friday night, I had my doubts but I was starving so we went with it. We placed a delivery order and the estimated time was 40-45 min (understandably, it was a Friday night.) I kid you not our food arrived within about 35 min and it was hot! I ordered the veggie samosas and Shrimp Biyari and it was flavorfully amazing! Especially the samosas! I could've made an entire meal off those alone (had I placed more than one order for them). My daughter had the chicken curry and she loved it! Even my 4 year old smashed the rice with no complaints! We will definitely be ordering from here again! read more

Well unfortunately there was no more lunch buffet. They have a pick 2 or 3 option for your lunch. I would of hoped my food was atleast hot temperature-wise but it was served lukewarm. This was irritating since there were only 3 tables with patrons. Also the spiciness was barely there. You do receive communal rice and naan with your meal if there's others at your table. Just ordered their Chicken Tikka Masala and reader- they did not cook this chicken in the sauce as is customary. They did something much worse... it seems they fully cooked a chicken breast whole, chopped it up into huge chunks, then heated it in the thinnest, runniest tikka masala sauce I've ever seen. The lunch buffet is awesome! For under $10 there's so much variety. Probably at least 15 dishes available including chicken tikka, naan bread, lamb curry (my fav!!!) and dessert. Definitely try mixing the fruit and the rice pudding - AH SO GOOD and not too sweet. The restaurant is pretty big. There's a pretty good crowd by 11:30-12 so get there early! I've been on an indian food kick lately and I've been taking advantage of the online ordering and delivery through Yelp, provided by Grubhub. I've ordered three times in the past 2 weeks, and each time I've ordered I've gotten exactly what I ordered (including the spice level) and it's come faster than the expected timeframe. Through the Yelp app I can see when my order is accepted by the restaurant, when it leaves, and where the driver is with my order. Using the contactless delivery method means the driver drops off my food at the front door and texts me that it's there, and I run out and grab it. My favorite at India Garden is by far the Chicken Curry. I usually get it with a medium spice level along with naan bread. Sometimes I get the vegetable samoas along with it. Okay.. so I get them most of the time. Everything makes two decent sized meals, so I'm able to have some for dinner and save the rest for lunch the next day. read more

I have been here a handful of times for dine in and gotten delivery another half dozen times. The dining room experiences were wonderful, with delicious food and good service. Their onion bhaji are some of the best around. They are round and puffy nuggets vs. flat, like latkes. The delivery had been good too, but they were very stingy with chutney in all occasions. I'm happy to pay for these delicious condiments if that means getting more than a 2 ounce sample cup. Last night, though, I did DoorDash again and that's why this is a four star review vs. the five I would have given it. They got our order a lil wrong, but that wasn't the real issue. Our entrees were flavorless. Flavor isn't something that is ever lacking with Indian food, but this was terrible. I ordered a shahi korma and it reminded me of the jarred Uncle Ben's korma sauce you get in the UK. Down to the single raisin in my entree. One bad experience out of almost 12 isn't worth a terrible review. I'm wondering if the current COVID19 pandemic has made it difficult for them to source spices. This place is still on my radar and a favorite, but I may not visit again until some normalcy has returned to the world. read more

So, I'm on the southside of Indy and I haven't found an Indian place that I like, like. I don't have a go to because DH doesn't like Indian. So when I do rarely get Indian, it's a treat. I have to order delivery because, you know, it's a pandemic. So I order my favorite chicken tikka masala and naan bread with gulab jamun for dessert. I wouldn't say I was very disappointed but I felt some type of way about the Campbell's tomato soup tasting gravy that covered my chicken. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't exactly like the tomato soup but that flavor was definitely there. The naan was good, but how can you really mess up naan? The gulab jamun were the tiniest little almost marble sized balls. For $2.99 I expected a little more. We dined here about a couple weeks ago. There is a paid parking lot very close to them if you don't prefer to park on the streets. I don't think there is any street parking right in front of the restaurant but maybe available in the sides. This is a family friendly restaurant. I don't think they have any outdoor seating at this location. The customer service was great in this location. There are a lot of customers who order to go from this place. Staff still wear masks but customers are not required. The food itself was good. We were not big fans of their Navratna Kurma and Gobi Manchurian. But their paneer masala tastes good. How in the world does India Garden have four stars?!? Absolutely awful! THE worst Indian food I have ever had. And anyone who pays any attention to my reviews knows I don't hand out one-star reviews unless an establishment really earns it. I had never had food from this India Garden before, and it had been over twenty years since I'd been to the one in Broad Ripple. I had a trying week and thought I would treat myself to some GrubHub delivery. Now that I have moved away from the west side, this was my only option for Indian delivery in my area. I noticed right away that the portions on my entree seemed pretty small compared to what I am used to. I ordered the Punjabi Bhaji. The small portion of entree and rice is fine by me at this point because it was so bad. It was runny. So runny that it was the consistency of thin soup. It just looked like orange-colored milk with a few pieces floating in it. No way did this have anywhere near the number of vegetable fritters as what other restaurants put in this dish. I asked for medium heat, but it was completely devoid of flavor. It was milder than mild. There have been times I have received Indian food milder than what I wanted when I dined in, but this was a joke. Most Indian delivery I have received has always been maybe too hot. I could barely choke down the tiny bit I put on my plate. The rest is garbage. The vegetable pakora had a somewhat decent flavor, but they were soggy and fell apart. The vegetable samosa was heavily doughy and crumbled into pieces. Neither came even CLOSE to the good flavor of the samosas and pakoras at Shalimar. Even the chutneys were runny and barely had any flavor. The sweet chutney was terrible and had a sour taste. The garlic naan was edible and probably the least bad thing I ordered. I wasn't exactly expecting Shalimar here, but my God, I had no idea what I was getting into. This meal was so not worth the wait. GrubHub was slow, but these weren't the types of issues I anticipated from delivery. The food quality wasn't the fault of the delivery driver. This wasn't just a little disappointing to where I'd try it again on another night, maybe order something different, and give them another chance. I kept hoping with each item I tried that I'd find something with redeeming qualities. Nope! A disgusting waste of money. And I was looking forward to Indian leftovers. I will never eat here again! If you want good Indian in Indy, stick with Shalimar! Someone dear said the same thing and warned me long ago, and I really wish I had listened.
