This little gem is exactly what I'm looking for in a coffee shop. I took two steps inside and felt…read morelike I was at home. The vibes are straight up moody, in the best way possible. Twinkle lights, a neon sign with the phrase "stay wild," plants everywhere and I mean everywhere! Little things that I noticed and loved included a table with a community puzzle and some board/card games, very cool artwork on the walls, and hints of Halloween (skeletons and skulls), my favorite. The community feeling was also very obvious. Everyone was friendly, there were so many cute dogs and people waving and saying hi to each other as they came and went. I loved it. Now, on to the coffee... I was going to be staying put for a while before jumping on the road for a three hour drive so I ended up getting two of their seasonal drinks and a pastry. I always go for the seasonal options and they had several good ones to try. I started with the "peelin' so good," a banana and caramel latte with strawberry drizzle. I opted to get it with oat milk. Oh my goodness, it was so good. You might question banana in a latte, but I've been seeing them pop up everywhere and it was delicious. I also got a babka pastry, which I had never heard of before. It's pretty much a braided roll mixed with a sticky bun. It had cinnamon in it and a syrup over it. I snacked on that while I was there and finished it in my car. Super tasty! Before I left I got the "beez nutz" latte because I knew I would need help staying awake while driving for three hours. It was a honey latte with a peanut butter cold foam. Also delicious. I sipped down every drop. This shop is the perfect mix of dark whimsy, community, and coffee. A special place indeed. Give them a visit!

I also really appreciated that when I asked for oat milk, she checked to see if I had a dairy allergy since another ingredient in the drink I chose contained dairy. Oat milk is just a personal preference for me, but I thought that attention to detail was great! The space itself is beautiful with tons of greenery inside and a cute outdoor patio. It was pretty crowded when I visited, and a private event was taking up about half the space, so I'd definitely love to come back when all the seating is open to really enjoy the atmosphere. Even with how busy they were, my coffee came out super fast. Definitely a spot I'd visit again!

The Shadow Bloom featured a gorgeous blackberry cold foam topped with an adorable purple butterfly, while the Fairy Confection was finished with coconut around the rim, giving it the look of fairy dust--such a thoughtful touch! The attention to detail in every drink was incredible. The service was exceptional, and the space itself was absolutely breathtaking, filled with lush plants and stunning décor around every corner. "Coffee Til Cocktails" truly lives up to its name, with alcoholic versions of many drinks available and the atmosphere transitioning into more of a cocktail bar in the evenings. I'm so glad I finally got the chance to visit this spot and already can't wait to come back!

I wish all of my reviews could be this on-the-nose and well-thought-out. I love a good theme. Black House Cafe is that kind of place to visit when you want a theme. This coffee shop is all horror movie paraphernalia and horror culture, in the heart of Fountain Square. But although it's all horror all the time, it's more spooky than scary. I would not hesitate to bring a child into Black House Cafe, because there's nothing gory or frightening about this place. Mostly, it serves as a cafe art gallery to some of the more famous horror film leads, like Freddy Krueger, the leprechaun in Leprechaun, Michael Meyers, Chucky and other menacing movie greats. It's a fun and playful space. The ambiance is 100/100. Honestly, if you just visited Black House Cafe to check out the artwork on the walls and absorb the horror vibe, it would be worth it. But this cafe has some creative caffeinated drinks also, so you might as well get a coffee. I wanted to get a coffee, but ended up getting a tea. I got the "It's Alive!" drink, which is matcha with pistachio flavoring and milk. Like all matcha drinks, this was one of those drinks where I was like, "Wow! Matcha really does taste like the way fish food smells!" That said, I liked my matcha, and the addition of pistachio flavor put it over the top. They have a few snacky things on the menu, like pastries, bagels, avocado toast and empanadas. I didn't get anything to eat, but I was very close to considering an empanada. Be sure to visit the restroom! It's Gremlins themed!

Dear reader,…read more Bovaconti Coffee in Fountain Square remains one of my favourite coffee shops, and we stop there whenever we come to town. It is the sort of place that feels special the moment you walk in. A lot of people rave about the beautiful space, and quite right too. The shop has a gorgeous, old-world feel in a historic Fountain Square building, plenty of seating, and a lovely outdoor area that is very dog friendly. The staff always boast a delightful disposition that makes you want to smile and enjoy the rest of your day as well. As for the coffee, I love the iced Mayan Mocha. It is like a mocha with a kick and extra flavour depth, and it is absolutely delicious. The dark chocolate, honey, cinnamon, and cayenne give it a little warmth and complexity without losing the joy of a proper iced coffee treat. They also have some really high-end pastries to choose from. I love the lemon loaf, and some of the more complex, unique pastries make it feel a bit more elevated than the average coffee stop. Overall, it is clean, beautiful, welcoming, and always worth the return visit.

I usually choose something from their seasonal menu, and recently I tried the iced blueberry brown sugar matcha and it was amazing. *Free parking directly outside the building on Woodlawn Ave

However, I was disappointed that a portion of the automatically added 20% gratuity will be going to Jess W. I expected better service, especially with gratuity already included. When I asked if I could purchase a side of hash browns, I was willing to pay the additional charge. Instead, I was told there "was only enough for the hash browns on the burgers." The response felt dismissive, and there was no effort to see if another option was available or to provide a more customer-focused explanation. I understand that menu items may have limitations, but good service is about how those situations are handled. Unfortunately, the level of service I received today did not meet my expectations. I hope this feedback is shared so future guests have a better experience. Food was excellent, but go someplace else if you are looking for better service.

Same great staff, same cool space, same open kitchen where a party of one like me can grab a counter seat and watch the chefs do their thing. I've honestly always enjoyed that part of the experience. Today I had the avocado toast with feta and an egg on top, and it totally hit the spot. Earlier this week I tried one of the newer menu items -- fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, plus a sample of jalapeño cornbread and Asian slaw. Incredible comfort food. And as someone who normally isn't much of a slaw person, I was surprised by how much I loved it. They also tried to tempt me with the roast beef special, which honestly looked great, but at 10:30 in the morning I just couldn't fully commit to roast beef yet. Maybe next time. The new name is a nice tribute to the owner's mother, Arleen, but thankfully it still feels like the Milktooth so many of us have come to enjoy over the years. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't been in awhile.

However, I really would love to see them make matcha their primary concept as opposed to coffee. I feel like their matcha drinks, made with house syrups, are done artfully. Top 2-3 in city, if not the best in a limited market for matcha. Though many coffee shops have matcha options, there is only one "primary" matcha concept at this point in time (recess in Kennedy King neighborhood). I think selene should be the second. The coffee scene in Indianapolis is surprisingly quite strong, batting above its weight. This shop's coffee drinks do not match up. I blame some/most of this for utilizing Hubbard and cravens (imo one of bottom tier roasters in city, despite being amongst oldest) for lack in quality. Many much better options for area roasters whether in close proximity (tinker, helm, Calvin fletchers, blue mind) or regionally (indie, hopscotch). The lack of average coffee keeps me from going full 5 stars here as name currently prioritizes coffee "the selene coffee and tea". I will certainly edit review to 5 stars if rebrands to primary matcha with "the selene matcha and coffee" or if coffee game improves. As a neighbor in the neighborhood, I appreciate them and want them to succeed, will continue to patronize for their wonderful matcha. Takeaway: If you live in indy or are visiting from out of town in search of top notch matcha drinks, highly recommend the selene.
