I went in with my daughter to get a New Year's treat. She got the Red Velvet Tower. Once we got home, she tasted it and the frosting was pure butter. NOT butter cream frosting but 100% butter. It tasted awful! My poor daughter got sick from the four bites she took off it. She did not want to eat any more of it so we threw it away. I called the bakery this morning and their response was you know it's a butter cream frosting. To which I said, three adults tasted it and it was pure butter, not frosting. Oh thank you for telling us, we'll talk to the baker. They asked if we still had the cake and when I replied no, he said thanks for telling us. Not we are so sorry to child became ill, would you like a refund or a replacement, just thanks for telling us. My wedding was at San Dimas Canyon Golf Course, and they have a package deal with Some Crust where the cake is included in the wedding package. I chose to have cupcakes instead, with a small "top layer" cake. I had carrot cake with cream cheese frosting for the top layer cake, and then I had four different choices of cupcakes: carrot cake, pound cake (with a strawberry on top), raspberry lime, and mini cheesecakes. Everything was delicious!! I also loved that as part of the package, you can go back for your first anniversary (doesn't actually have to be on the exact date) and get the same top layer again - or you can change it up if you want - for free! No need to keep cake in the freezer. :) The only thing I didn't like: I was able to sample a few cake flavors with the wedding coordinator person, who sat there extremely patiently waiting for me to make decisions. It was nice that she was patient, but I remember (this was in 2014) it being really weird...she didn't offer any tips, any suggestions, any...anything. She just stayed quiet the whole time, only saying facts. But anyway, then when I decided I wanted cupcakes, I wasn't able to sample their cupcake flavors for free, so we actually had to buy some to decide what to order. read more

The quality of ingredients has gone down hill post Covid. The cupcakes and eclairs are a whipped artificial filling, not custard or true cream. I have bought from them for over 15 years, post Covid not sure what has changed but I won't be purchasing bakery items, ordered cakes etc unless the quality comes back up. 3.5 stars... 8 dollars for a slice of RED VELVET CAKE??? it better be frickin unbelievably good. ! I could be using that 8 bucks for the same at Cheesecake Factory- which has my fave RV cake. I really hate when prices are not labeled. When i got that slice for a friend and added a chocolate cookie, my bill was like 11 dollars- WHAT!??? The RV cake- we took it to go, and by the time we got home, the layers were not intact. The cake part was moist and tasted ok. The frosting was light and tasty, but not very cream cheesy. Tasted pretty standard, not 8 dollars worth in my opinion. Chocolate Cookie- they didn't have the ooey gooey chocolate cookie Ciara G wrote about, so i got this one with cranberry. It was not dry, but texture did not hold and was very crumbly. More shortbread like- not a chewy cookie. My fave chocolate cookie is from Torrance Bakery!!! This place is awesome! It has a curb appeal and THE best tasting sliders and cupcakes in town! You have two choices of sliders: egg sliders or hotdog sliders. When you order, they give you a checklist of items you want in your sandwich such as types of sauce (i.e. pesto, garlic), types of cheese, types of bread, etc. They also have paninis and other sandwiches. Their coffee is also good. But the best part about this place is, on the other side of the cafe is the bakery which has the best cupcakes! The tres leches cupcakes are to die for! I have only one complain about this place, it's too small! It can get so crowded and there are not enough chairs or tables. You either have to eat standing up or take it to go. read more

My wedding cake was a HUGE disaster!!! I got a call from a lady from somecrust (a couple of days before my wedding) telling me that she used the wrong color on the border of the cake (white) instead of the off-white/cream color i asked for and asked me what i wanted to do about it. I said well its not the color i asked for so......? she replied you want me to change it to the color you ordered? (well yes its what i asked for, and why are we having this conversation doesn't make any sense to me). Come the day of the wedding I looked at my cake and noticed it had a HUGE discoloration on the top tier and the borders were NOT straight. Also, the bottom of the cake was crinkled and instead of attaching the borders towards the back of the cake they made the borders meet in the front where it is visible. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED in the quality of my cake. I will admit that the taste was good (that's where my 1 star rating applies) but the presentation was HORRIBLE. I do not recommend using them for your special day like your WEDDING. All of my pictures of my wedding cake turned out horrible. You know.... I wouldn't mind coming back here to try out more of there selection. Don't be like me and show up a hour before closing if you want to really indulge in some great pastries. I walked in to empty glass casings, BUT was lucky enough to pick out some greats from the limited choices. I was really into some sweets that night so of course I picked out a chocolate chip cookie. Now this chocolate chip cookie was basic, BASIC I TELL YA!!! so i most certainly won't need to come back to pick that out. I can make one just as good or even better at home. Anyways, on to my best pick, the Mocha Cookie! I usually don't go for the coffee flavored cookies, but this one right here was ooh sooo gooood and had me feelin' some type of way exploding with mocha flavor and a hint of cocoa. I adore the cupcakes here. They are so pretty!! I'd say they are the prettiest cupcakes I've ever encountered and on top of that they are perfectly delicious. You can eat the entire cupcake, frosting, filling, decoration and not feel like you're going to wretch from having too much sugar. First time I've never had to scoop globs of frosting off my cupcake to enjoy it. It's a pleasure to be able to eat all that prettiness. They make amazing bread here too. Had no room whatsoever after my amazing Back Abbey burger but I wanted to try something from Some Crest since I have been eyeballing it via yelp. Not room for much so Joel and I went for a few cookies. He was telling me about this Mocha Cookie so I went for that. Woah can we say riiiccchhh! But oh so yummy. I was only able to enjoy a few bites bc I was completely full from lunch but mostly bc I didn't have a half gallon of milk near me that I would need to finish off that cookie. I'm on a chocolate cookie kick these days and what I did love about this one was how light and fluffy the cookie was even being so rich. Another cool thing was that this cookie almost had a layer of this gooey chocolate melted goodness right under the top flaky crispy part. I don't know how they make it so it stays so gooey and creamy. They had lots of other treats that I will be going back to try. I was eyeballing the Almond Bear Claw (rarrrr). The Pumpkin Spice cookie also looked tasty. They had some cool sounding cupcakes but they looked a little ridiculous to me so I had to pass on them, at least today. Space is super tiny so it is kind of hard to move around inside and especially to get out of the place after you have your treats in hand. Have you ever had a piece of cake that you simply did not want to share with anyone? A cake that you tried to savor because it was so exquisite, so you would take little bites everyday so as not to finish it too quickly? Well if you never have then you need to make a trip to Some crust, because they will make a cake that will help you experience what I described above. The last cake that I had from Somecrust was a red velvet cake in the shape of a human brain, at a graduation party for residents finishing their training in neurosurgery. The cake was so decadent that I was able to keep it for a whole week. I would take a couple of bites a day, and I was adamant about not sharing with anyone. This was by far the best red velvet cake that I had ever had. The batter was light and airy, the cream cheese filling was perfectly sweetened. Not too sweet and not too tart. Every bite was pure perfection. If you love red velvet YOU MUST try Somecrust, because I promise it will be the best you have ever had. This is a nice little bakery in downtown Claremont. I saw all the pictures and after having lunch, decided I needed something sweet for dessert. I was tempted to try some of the cupcakes because they looked really awesome. You can see the photos people have taken to know what I mean. Try any panini on the jalapeño cheese bread at Some Crust Bakery. I like the Crustie Melt with cheese, tomato, grilled onion & thousand island dressing for only $5. Very delicious! If I'm in a hurry, I grab a cup of coffee and a loaf of jalapeno cheese bread from the bakery side, and eat it on the go! The egg sliders are famous at breakfast time. Only $2.25 each so I order 2 of them. I like the garlic aoli sauce, chipotle ranch, or pesto sauce. Choice of fillings and bread. Bear claws are amazing, fresh and tasty in the morning with almond filling inside! Excellent coffee and espresso drinks. My favorite coffee is their darkest roast, called Some Crust Blend. Came here Saturday around 11 and it was pretty busy. They have 2 entrances, one for the bakery side and the other for the cafe/sandwich side. I was in the sandwich side, it was pretty small seating wise. They had one big table (7 people) and 2 small 2 person tables and bench seating in front of the window. When a line formed, it would feel a bit crowded, and it was kinda loud inside. They had a few tables outside as well but not enough for me to find a spot when I was there. They menu consisted of a bunch of sandwiches, paninis, croissants, and coffee beverages. I had an iced cappuccino, which tasted really good but lacked foam. The BCBG sandwich I ordered was delicious! It had chicken breast, goat cheese, bruschetta, and basil. The tuna melt was also really good, it had a nice giant hunk of mozzarella! They have multiple bread options and I got the rosemary french which was soft and delicious! The coffee came out right away but the sandwiches took maybe 10 to 15 min, which is a bit of a wait but not unbearable. All that you really need to know about this place are... their AMAZING cookies and egg slider! The cookies I enjoy eating the most are snickerdoddle with cinnamon chips, pumpkin with chocolate chips, gingersnaps, ginger with chocolate chips, and almond drop cookies. The other cookies sold at the store were a bit too sweet for my taste buds but they are still delicious. As for the egg sliders, you can choose whatever you want to be in your slider. There's a list on the counter that you fill out to let the person know exactly how you want your egg slider to be and what you want in it. At least you know it's made fresh to order :) The only downside I've had here would be the customer service. The employees are not friendly and do not feel like they want to be there at all. I've never had any employee welcome me to the store or say thank you. I would have given this place a 5 but had to deduct 1 for the customer service. Because of the yummy cookies, I still come back. This place is in "downtown Claremont". Others are a bunch of little mom ns pop spots on a few streets. Cute little romantics setting. Perfect for couples or friends To Get together in that area. There are two sides to bakery. Sandwhich shop and an actual pastry bakery. Got a coconut macaroon and it was so good!! And they're huge! Very rich and full of flavors. It was drizzles with chocolate topping. I'm going to have to get another one soon. I also bought my man a slice of lemon cake. He said there wasn't much of a lemon cake. He said he wasn't too impressed with it. The guy at the bakery said they were having a hard time selling the whole lemon cake that was in there. I've eaten 3 cakes from here. 1 was ordered for my surprise baby shower in 2019 and it WAS AMAZING. The butter cream isn't overly sweet and the frosting to cake ratio is PERFECT. Since falling in love with a basic white cake with fresh strawberries and strawberry whipped cream filling-- I've been hooked! Everyone was in awe at how moist the cake was and how pronounced the strawberry flavor was, myself included. I have since ordered my daughters birthday cake from there and my sons. STILL IN AWE! Most cakes look grand on the outside but when it comes to taste-- they fall flat, are overpowered by gobs of chewy tasteless fondant or overly sweet icings. NOT THESE CAKES. I tend to request that they are lightly decorated cakes and then I add themed personal touches to the cake myself. I can say that everyone at both my sons and daughters parties HAD TO KNOW where the cakes were from also. Everything they have with sugar.... has too much sugar. The cookies are fresh and tasty.... but the insane amount of sugar they use ruins it. Who are they trying to appease with so much sugar? I have not tried their food, my girlfriend and I strictly came here for macarons. We bought 2 chocolate and 2 orange flavored macarons. I would be lying to you if I told you they were terrible. They were pretty delicious. It's like a cookie dipped in candy with sweet cream in the middle, candy shell on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Quite an experience for my first macaron EVER! I really loved the orange macaron. It was like eating a sweet orange candied dessert. My girlfriend loved the chocolate flavored ones, not too sweet, a little dark, and fancy. This place is a diamond in the rough. If you come here, there are two must haves. Their egg sliders and their macarons. Once you have their egg sliders, you will never think of an egg mcmuffin the same ever again. It's like a piece of breakfast heaven. So juicy and flavorful.. my mouth is watering at this moment just thinking of them. For a few bucks, it's a great buy and totally worth getting. Even if you're not hungry, just try one. Who doesn't love some baked goods?! Some Crust is located in the heart of the adorable town of Claremont, and it's charm fits right in. The bakery is small, with a large case of freshly baked treats. They have a vegan option, a gluten free option, and a gluten free vegan option!!!! I love nothing more than a place that offers both qualities in one food, because I don't have to settle for a gluten filled dish. The kind workers helped us navigate the case, making sure to specify which pieces were/weren't gluten free! I got the gluten free vegan cranberry pastry. I'm normally not much of a fruit person, so I wasn't expecting much. But wow, this thing was good! It had the perfect balance of sweetness, and the cranberry flavor came through wonderfully. Located right off the 10 freeway, this mom and pop style eatery is small in size, but huge in taste. The egg slider sandwiches are small in size, order 2, but that just means you get to taste 2 different yummy sliders. Each slider is customized to taste (chose a "patty," bread, sauce, etc.). The menu consist of other sandwiches that look and sound wonderful, but I didn't get a chance to try them...looks like I would just have to come back! Egg white sandwich with rosemary bread and tomatoes and spinach and rosemary ham and raspberry jam - rosemary bread is wonderful! Cinnamon roll - baked perfectly with the right amount of frosting and was so soft. I am a regular visitor to Some Crust, buying cookies and cupcakes, and I have also had their delicious and beautifully decorated cakes (including a darling baby-reveal cake at a baby shower). When my daughter needed an informal wedding cake, I went to Some Crust, and described what I needed. The young woman who took the order was extremely helpful with suggestions, and drew out a design to make sure it was what I wanted. When I picked the cake up, it exceeded my expectations a hundred-fold. I had ordered cake toppers separately from elsewhere, and based on my description of them, Kristal decorated the perfect cake. It looked like the same artist had made the cake and toppers. The cake looked exquisite. But it's cake, and people want to eat it. So how did it taste? Best cake I've ever had. Moist and delicious white cake with layers of lemon curd, topped off with a delicate and not-too-sweet buttercream frosting. I got a 12-inch round, and after generously serving 25 people, there was almost half a cake left. You know what that means? No, I didn't order too much.
