My mistake to come to this place ordering a drink because I couldn't wait 15 minutes inline for Iron and Kin Coffee Co. 50 yards away. Ordered a dirty matcha. Charged me $9 for it. Either the owner is disconnected itself from the market place or they added some gold flakes into my drink. Oh, my dirty matcha had no shot added. Lastly, the barista placed my drink in the counter not calling the order number nor name of the drink. I sat there waiting and no one bothered to ask if I got my drink nor care what was I waiting for. I get it, it's a neighborhood joint that offers friendly services to known customers. Such a short sighted owners/ operator. The server I waved down didn't care and the lady behind the counter just 3feet from me didn't even look up. I recently visited and unfortunately had a disappointing experience with service. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed from the start and greeted us with a noticeably unfriendly attitude. While I tried to be understanding, the service continued to be slow, and basic requests like getting water took a long time--even after asking more than once. I have tried this place in France as well as here and let me tell you, I would choose here any day. Used to be a regular but come back as much as I can for the same thing, Sunny Side Breakfast Bowl and the Honey Lemon Ginger drink. The type of food and pastries reminded me of an upscale panera bread and I mean that in the most respectful way. It was quite busy the day we went so it did take quite a bit for our food and drinks, but overall I had a pleasant experience. Our waiter was attentive and friendly and food was decent. I had the egg and cauliflower quiche. It came with bread and salad. I also ordered a hazelnut iced coffee and their cream donut to try. The donut was a hit as a few other people around me got it after me. The coffee was good during the first couple of sips and the salad dressing was good so I asked for extra. They looked delicious but didn't purchase because I was too full. Our meal was decent. The presentation was pretty (refer to pics) However, my smoked salmon was on regular wheat bread rather than sourdough (that's what was stated on the menu). If there was a change I think they should have told me. The dill was good, so it helped tie my meal together. My Matcha Latte was okay. Came here today for our monthly lunch with a colleague. This was a celebratory lunch as well. We had a fantastic server whose name is taylor and took great care of us but when she went on her lunch break, we learned that they had been a shift in service. Because she took such great care of us. We were trying to understand what happened. We learned that if you sit down and your server has to take a 30 minute lunch break and the food lands on your table while they're on the lunch break then automatically another server will be assigned to you at that time. Because of this, there was some miscommunication about my colleagues, dessert, a lemon tart. When we alerted taylor she was able to get back to us as our server and gave us that lemon tart on the house. Super cute cafe in a super cute location. It's a bit hard to find as it's located inside a plaza within the block near a movie theater. I can't speak for the food, as I only picked up a few desserts and while they are super pricey, they are quite yummy. I picked up the peppermint chocolate crookie, the pumpkin muffin, and pumpkin cream donut. The crookie was amazing and the muffin was good. The donut was ok. The pumpkin cream tasted good, but the ratio of cream to donut was too much for my liking. They have other amazing looking desserts like fruit tarts and cakes that look amazing also! Their menu includes a lot of what my kids would call "mom food" (ie Warm Grain Bowl, Black Lentil Bowl, Mushroom & Guyere Quiche, roasted veggie & feta flatbread). I'll have to come back without them as honestly the menu seems targeted to a more mature palette. Service was good and efficient. Parking is pretty hard to find. I've been a fan of Le Pain for years and come here 2-3 times a week. It's honestly one of my favorite places, which is why it's disappointing to see the quality starting to decline. The food and coffee are usually amazing, but recently the experience hasn't been the same. On my last visit, I waited about 10 minutes even though it wasn't busy. I understand there were only two servers, so I appreciate their effort--but the service didn't feel as welcoming as before. I ordered my favorite salmon omelet, but my salad didn't look fresh or appetizing this time, which was disappointing. Cute atmosphere. Offers a unique setting with smaller individual tables and larger communal seating. That being said our table was right against the host stand and I felt like I was in the way. Items are a bit pricey for what you get. My pictured tartine (open-faced sandwich) was $17 and only one piece of bread with a few pieces of mozzarella and chicken, and a there was a lot of bare bread once the excessive amount of arugula was removed. Unfortunately there were items on the sandwhich not listed in the menu. I had to scrape pesto off the best I could. Seems irresponsible since people have allergies/food aversions. Overall the item tasted meh. My aunt got the waffle and really enjoyed it, but again it cost more than it should have for the small size. My iced latte was great the first few sips then had a strong, almost alcohol taste so I didn't finish it. Before leaving I picked up a treat from the display (separate from the seated restaurant menu). I went with the pumpkin twist. Again meh. The pumpkin filling tasted a bit strange. Le Pain Quotidien is a cure French restaurant with a patio when you walk in the front entrance and there is also seating inside. It is quite large but it gets very busy on the weekends. This is a good spot for breakfast since they have a variety of pastries and different menu items to choose from. We decided to order a variety of desserts/ pastries. I thought the pecan tart was nice but the cream one that sort of was like a doughnut was a little bit hard which was surprising. Walked in on a Sunday afternoon and got seats right away. It's a nice European cafe vibe and the employees are very kind, especially our server Miss Haley. Girlfriend and I ordered the baked salmon omelette and this skillet that had feta, tomatoes, and avocado. And I ordered the Belgian mocha with oat milk. The Belgian mocha was incredibly bitter, but Haley did inform me that it's not very sweet, so that's my fault, me but I didn't like it at all. The avocados were very ripe and hard with no taste. Soo much soo, that she ended up eating around it. I, however, enjoyed my omelette. The yogurt that it came with added to the flavor. It hit the spot and very tasty overall. Haley kindly informed us that they were running out of avocados and had to go to local store to get some so that's the best they could do. I appreciate the honesty and they deducted the prices of the meal. I typically am a huge fan of this place and introducing my friends to it, but today will be the last time I patron this restaurant. I didn't want to attack the service too much as I went on a Saturday afternoon right before a holiday and everyone has off days, but I want this to act as a cautionary tale more than anything. We were seated immediately which is always great given the day, but after that, we had minimal communication with our server which would be fine if we had received our items in a timely manner. For example, my friend's mint lemonade and our waters came out when we were halfway done with our food which was odd given drink orders were taken first. My friend ordered the soup of the day (tomato) which she compared to having the same flavour as tomato sauce so I'm fortunate I went with the lentil soup as it's tried and true for me. However, I had asked the server for more bread to go with my soup to which he retrieved swiftly and cut up. A little later he introduced us to a new server as he would be going on his break and as I am paying for my portion, I noticed the surcharge for the bread that I asked for totaling at $6 on top of my $7 soup. As the server didn't ask what bread I wanted or even mention that there would be an additional cost for the bread, I was taken aback. I had told the new server about the miscommunication to which there was no remedy or attempt at correction outside of a "sorry" from her. No prior disclaimer from our first server and no hospitality from our second. It has left a poor taste in my mouth given my previous experience of being taken care of as a customer at this establishment. I will miss the lentil soup dearly, but will not be back. read more
