I love it here! I've been living here for 8 months now, and it's been a great experience overall. The office staff is always helpful and informative, and maintenance is quick to respond, even on weekends. It's honestly refreshing to have maintenance actually answer emergency calls! Management is also very prompt and respectful of residents' privacy, even around shared spaces like the grill areas, pool and gym. The pool is always nice and clean, and the neighborhood itself is quiet and calm. Unfortunately, we are near an area where there's occasionally a lot of loitering and suspicious activity, so I definitely recommend not leaving personal belongings in your car or outside. My kids' bike was recently stolen because I left it out overnight. There is security walking around 24/7, but being in LA, thieves move fast.. so just stay vigilant like you would anywhere else in the city. I've lived here for about 4 years before moving out! I think things have definitely improved since I first started living here & I'll list the pros and cons below: Pros: - Pet friendly - Cheaper rent for a 2bedroom compared to others in the area - Spacious units - 1 parking spot in the garage & street parking (yes, sometimes the nearby streets get filled out, but I've never had an issue parking further away & walking) - Friendly staff members - Fast & friendly maintenance crew (seriously, they're so responsive to maintenance requests) and even the gardening crew here are so friendly!! - Pool & (small) gym - Leasing office does fun events sometimes for holidays - Security guard -They give you a Ring camera (you need to pay for membership) Cons: - Only one window AC unit (newer units seem to have 2, so I'm sure this won't be a problem moving forward), so we had to buy a couple of portable AC's to be cool in the summer - Doesn't come with fridge (but this is normal in the LA area) - Bathroom is reaaaally small (think airport small lol), but that's prob how they get more space in the apartment overall - Not a lot of laundry machines/rooms and a lot of times there'll be machines broken - They added a door to the front of the buildings that locks and it's a hassle for package deliveries because the drivers don't know to go around the back and sometimes packages will just be left out front and get stolen if not retrieved in a timely manner When I first started living here, there was a big problem with homeless people hanging around and even coming to our door. But ever since they hired security, it hasn't been a problem for the last two years. They even added locks to the dumpsters to prevent dumpster diving and from having people stay in there overnight. Outstanding customer service I recently had an issue with my garage door opener not working, and Somerset was quick to respond. From start to finish, they made me feel like they truly care - and that is so heartwarming. Neto, the person who helped me, was incredibly kind and sweet. He was very informative, explaining everything thoroughly, but most importantly, he fixed the problem right away. It turned out to be just a faulty battery, but the level of attention and care I received from Somerset's customer service, and Neto in particular, made me feel truly valued. Just another money hungry property mgmt team. Regardless of how long you live there, they will try to find a way to stifle you out of money. I want to say my experience was great living there 10+ years but all I consistently saw was rent increase year in and out. And then I move out and they want me to pay a cleaning fee like I didn't leave the apartment in great condition. They want to pass off the apartments to new tenants clean but pass on the cost to the previous tenant. Just seems ridiculous to me. Good luck with your experience, but what do you expect when all they care about is your money and not the tenant. read more

Somerset Apartments have been kept up beautifully but they have no parking. Have grown up when the apartments where called Garfield Gardens and George Hensel Apartments. Residence in these apartments now have two and three cars. Many do not obey common sense rules, they park in front of fire hydrants, block portions of the handicap ramps at the end of streets, many have been ticketed. Somerset needs to find areas for their residence to park as much of the street is being taken up by their residences and home owners are not able to park in front or close to their homes. If only Somerset could buy out the Hensel Apartments and build some parking structures that would help. Besides illegal parking, many do not stop at stop signs. An accident is waiting to happen. Need to watch out, school buses in the area. read more

I've lived here since 2016 and I can honestly say this is one of the best places I've lived in my 13 moves. The apartments are nice -- hardwood floors, granite countertop, spacious. My only gripe was the size of the bathroom (small) and the amount of dust accumulated. That's probably because I was close to the Main Street and so many trees. Management was... interesting. Elizabeth is an intimidating woman, so she can come off a bit rough but she's actually very kind. She knew me by face because of the amount of times I was always in that office with questions. AJ is a character, so to speak. He can be sort of condescending but he's helpful otherwise. I will miss this complex a lot as I was here for almost 5 years. The maintenance men are extremely helpful and quick with repairs! Parking isn't horrible but beware of the Main Street (Garfield). There were drunken car accidents every few months so be weary when parking there on weekends. Laundry rooms get very busy on weekends. Environment is pretty quiet & peaceful, safe neighborhood. 10/10 would recommend moving in! read more

From my experience, when I need maintenance in my apartment, they are fairly quick to respond. They send letters in a timely manner that inform us of any inspections. I did have some rough encounters however through communication, matters were quickly resolved. Everything was explained before moving in. I actually read the entire agreement papers before signing so I know what I will be getting into. The one thing I would say: I feel like we need more washers and dryers. Imagine sharing only (2) washers and (2) dryers with about 20+ residents in 1 area. In a perfect world, we will all be considerate of each other & share the laundry place, but that's not the case. Someone is ALWAYS washing. For the amount of money rent is, I expect more. Other then that, my kids love their home, so I'm content too... read more

A year back I had referred one of my colleague to the community and I was entitled for a referral amount. He came here, he lived here and he left but am yet to get the referral check. Each time I am at the office She would give me a stupid that it's pending with corporate office and when I ask for the corporate contact she will say I will check with them and update me. That update never came yet (I think her desk phone doesn't work ). I have been following up with emails and visits to leasing office each time when I go to pay the rent. Well I don't think she checks emails coz I never get any reply unless it's something related to money which I am suppose to give. The funny thing is that she is always diligent when it comes to collecting rent. I won't recommend it to any of my colleagues going forward. Though the place is nice and decent the people who are looking after it needs to me more client oriented and not running away from responsibilities. read more

Roach, Roach Roach infested . Mold on the window seals , paint on top of paint . Bathroom is full of mold, the tub and shower doors are rusted and the caulking is nasty , did I mention the roach problem Crawling over counter tops in kitchen , crawling on the ceiling, on the furniture, in the stove and nothing has been done about it . Parking is a joke . And if you do find parking out on the street , cover your vehicle because you will get a nasty sap build up on your car . That will cost you to remove . Doors were put in front of building, does not make sense when the homeless and druggies can walk in anytime through the back entry hallway . The wooden flooring is outdated , every step you take . You here a squeak in the flooring . I've seen roaches on my granddaughters plates and spoons and forks my 2 year old granddaughter. This unit is a mess the entire building is a mess . Nothing like the photos on the website . Not worth 2300+ management needs to do something about this ! I lived here for years. The apartments are nice and quiet but there were a handful of issues worth sharing. Management changed halfway through our time living here. For years they allowed high school students from nearby schools hang out on the premises, and communication with management is terrible. When we moved due to buying a house, the manager AJ told us we are square and have no remaining balances. Then a month later he still mailed a bill that charged us utilities beyond our time living there and ignored our emails afterwards. We ended up paying rent, water, and more, for time that the apartment was already vacated. That really sucked after being great tenants for years here. If you are shopping for an apartment, ask people how their management is with communication. read more

Utterly Disappointed. This management has failed to deliver on many things that I would not want to trust anymore. There are a few things I would like to point out. 1. When we first moved into Somerset, a very helpful and responsive leasing agent, Kevin Le treated us well. He informed us that the leasing office can receive packages for us, should there be any packages require attention while we are out of the house. Turns out the management lady that is located in the office (walk in and to the right) denied all claims and said the leasing office would never take any packages. Great, I found that out the hard way, lost my package. 2. If you have more than one car in your household, think twice, no, think THREE times before moving to Somerset. Each unit is only assigned one space for the garage. I expressed my concern and Kevin was kind enough to accommodate me to communicate with another tenant, who can't park her car inside the garage since it is a pickup truck. Two months later, the tenant moved out, and I wanted to discuss potential spaces that other tenants may be willing to transfer to me and receive a payment from me instead, since there is a lot of unused spaces in the row of garages, and some residents even taking up two spaces to place their tools and non-operational vehicles. The same management lady in the office (walk in and to the right) simply said "no" and refuses to provide any assistance. This is how you treat tenants that have signed a 9-month contract, expecting me to accept everything? 3. Fine, no additional garage space available, how about outdoor parking! Somerset has announced to all residents that they are working on a Reserved parking system, effective September 1st. I immediately signed up and I've regularly checked in with them to inquire about the progress. I was informed by a wonderful female agent that I'm the 13th on the list, with 14 spots available, I double-checked with them over the phone to ensure I would have A SPACE when the time comes around. Guess how long it takes them to set up the parking system? A FULL month later, October 6th, they are finally calling the residents on the waiting list to go over the contract. I waited patiently for their phone call, thinking it must be their usual slow pace, until Saturday October 9th, I decided to go over to the leasing office and ask in person. NOW THEY TOLD ME I AM THE 14TH IN LINE WITH 13 SPACES AVAILABLE. Again, is this how you treat your residents, given your delays, and failed promises? I have been patiently waiting for a MONTH to hear "sorry, you can't have a space"? I could have been searching for an underground garage and store my car in the meanwhile. NON-COMMUNICATIVE, REFUSING TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE, and INCOMPETENT TO DELIVER PROMISES. That's how I would summarize this joke of a management or even their entire managing company. I am gathering phone evidence for their promise for records, and will not hesitate to go further, given I am being ignored, mistreated or even discriminated against for a matter as simple as a parking space. This place is ridiculous. I have called 5 times and emailed with no responses. Had to have my sister drive down there to the leasing office to get someone to talk to me. Got this lady with a heavy accent and couldn't understand a word she said. My sister told me that she kept rolling her eyes the entire conversation as I was trying to get more information about their complex since it is not mentioned online. #1 no utilities covered #2 1 parking spot per unit in a 2 car garage that is shared with another unit. Honestly the worse thing about these apartments is that if you have two cars per family they only give you one space garage meaning that you have to park one car outside . With that said they turn on the sprinklers , the sprinklers wet all the cars along the sidewalk. Later on you come to find yourself paying for a detailed car wash that is not cheap at all. We made it aware to the manager and he stated that he can't do nothing about it. Well then why pay $1950 for rent if my car will be getting ruined because of your stupid sprinklers . Another thing I didn't like about these apartments that it's not a good neighborhood. During the day you would see bums in the trash cans or even by your apartment camping out. Yes management would move them out but it was very annoying and scary to run into them. & in the night there was very frequent police activity because of shootings surrounded the neighborhood or theft and so on. Another thing is the gardening ! Don't leave your windows open because the gardeners won't care and blow dirt into your home through the windows . read more

Attention never go this place ..!! I found this apartments at Craigslist when I got there I see the people stay in the line to fill up applications!!?? They charged me $47 for applications and didn't say it's not refundable, the have 3 apartments to show the applicants and was empty. I have over $5000 income with excellent credit score also I have over 50 ground in the bank but after 5 days back and forth the said I'm not qualified and I need cosigner!!! They get $47 bux from every person who interested and say you not qualified. It's totally scam to make some money from people. The guy working at office he's Name in KEVIN LE. he doesn't know anything . He is one of them that cheating you. I lost $47 and my time. He is nasty guy. read more

so we lived here for about two years because of its proximity to downtown. Well big big big mistake. We moved out a year ago and when the keys were returned we asked for a walk through but they guy who works the desk was alone and he said it wasn't necessary. BIG MISTAKE!!!! Fast forward a year later, our deposit was never returned and we mysteriously started getting calls from an out of state number. We were sent to collections, without notifications!, for an unpaid water bill and $700 worth of repairs!!! Beware it's not the greatest. The apartments are lovely but management is worse than an over protective parent. Take your money elsewhere. read more

I've lived here for over a year now. As long as you maintain the apartment clean it will be stay clean. Ants are a bit of a problem and management can do something about it, that's the reason for the four stars. I see many bad management reviews and it doesn't do any justice to the awesome office people (AJ and lady that re-addresses the question as u ask the question :) )As long as you communicate and bring a matter to their attention in a polite and courteous manner, they will do their best to go above and beyond (keywords: polite, courteous), they are awesome. I love the strictness Management bring to residents or else this place would be just like the HOOD! Parking can be tough sometimes from selfish residents that park outside on driveway instead of using their assigned garage. Then you have those selfish residents that leave their cars parked on driveway for weeks without moving. Management should do something about that. Parking lights can benefit from new bulbs. Maybe lighting issue hasn't been replaced because no one has brought it up to their attention. Or because management are not here at night time to notice the bad lighting. Pool should have bigger sign "ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES NOT PERMITTED". It's very uncomfortable when my boys are having a nice swim an there's the inconsiderate resident having drinks as if he was at the MGM Grand. I like it when in the morning I leave to work and see Maintenance crew "Maintain" the property, from sweeping to blowing-off leaves to fixing piping. BY THE WAY THEY DO AN AWESOME JOB!! And never see them sitting down catching flies. Overall great experience, I highly recommend it, if ur dirty, if u like to drink poolside as if u were in Vegas and if u have a lot of drama this place is not for you!!! We walked around the whole buildings showing me the apartments available. We did a walk through the pool, gym, laundry room, garage areas and outdoor gathering areas. He would keep in touch day but day to make sure all paperwork needed was done correctly. Overall I was pleased with the customer service. He communicated really well and was very helpful with the whole leasing contract. I would recommend anyone who is interested in a place to seek for Kevin's help, you won't be disappointed.
