We have dined here for about 4 years, mostly because of the GOOD food, but we are never returning. The service here has always been less than average or poor. It is no fault of the staff, but to management/ownership because they handle training and set guidelines for what's allowed. A VAST amount of people order to-go, and I'm sure it's because of the poor dine-in experience. In fact, the staff is more enthusiastic about having to-go orders ready than caring for those dining in, it's both incredible and outrageous. My wife and I arrived one evening a couple of weeks ago. The server abruptly told us that there were no flavored teas available when we attempted to order some, so we chose others. About halfway through eating our meal, a young male employee behind the counter made a flavored tea, was shaking the cup to mix it well, made eye contact with me, froze, and kneeled down to place the beverage inside of a mini fridge. Why they refused to SELL one to me is a Scooby-Doo mystery. Poor business practice. The server checked on us twice, but towards the end of our meal NEVER returned to us. We were confused because we wanted a to-go box, saw her serving 2 other new tables, and didn't know how we'd get our check to pay. The young man and another woman with glasses saw us sitting there looking around, but no one addressed us. After about 15 minutes I decided to leave the leftover food and go to the counter to pay, and the young man charged us. Good tasty food here, but BAD service. Dine at your own risk. read more

This was an Uber order: I ordered the Chicken and Vegetables with White Rice. The order was not really flavorful despite a high review. I maybe should have ordered fried rice to help add flavor. Surprisingly good Vietnamese/Chinese in the Gulfgate area. Arrived at noon and was immediately and cheerfully greeted and seated. Waitress was happy to explain menu items though my birds nest order was new to her. Crisp noodles, warm brown gravy and an abundance of beef made it a rewarding and comforting selection. I've been coming to this place for years, we continue to give this place a chance, the food was great, and I would place them up there with any good Vietnamese restaurant. But let's give them the latest update, and this is three visits, and two deliveries, and lets just say they get worse every visit, quality of rice got better, but their food got worse, the chicken is dry, the meat is chewy, the spring rolls are days old, but for the most part I used to love their shrimp, very fresh, and a good size , well cutting corners and using two small shrimps in a $15 meal is not going to do the trick. I wish you the best, and if you make it in two years, we will give you a try again. There are other places with better quality ingredients, so if I'm spending $70 a visit for two people. I used to love coming here until recently. The service has gotten so bad that I will not be returning. Plus it smells like sewage in the place which affected my appetite. My wonton was delicious though. I'll miss it but service is always the reason for a successful business and experience for the customers. I had to check myself out after waiting for over 30 minutes for some water, my check, and not being able to add more to my order. When I went to the front, the hostess didn't even notice me because she was on her phone. The waiter didn't even bother to apologize or say anything. From the time we sat in the well worn booth to the time we left, the service was friendly and thoughtful. Our waiter was very attentive, knowing when to bring each dish and refill our waters. We started with spring rolls that were soft and tasty. My daughter had the egg roll while I enjoyed the noodle soup, which was too much food for lunch. Finally, our banh mi was tasty. Updated review since they have changed owners recently. They claim the menu is the same, but no it's NOT! My usual spring rolls were just lettuce, shrimp and noodles- no bean sprouts, no cilantro. The meatball soup didn't have whole meatballs, matter of fact, it only had FOUR PIECES!!! Orange chicken that my husband usually orders were chicken pieces about the size of the meatball pieces with hardly no orange sauce. I hate that they messed up a good thing. The Vietnamese restaurant is within a mall and has ample parking. We have visited it an year ago and has been refreshingly cleaned up (they were using the corners as storage space last year). All food was brought out at different times and my child's Chicken Nuggets meal was assuming forgot because I had to ask 2 times for it until it came out almost 10mins after our own food did. Recently my wife was craving Vietnamese food in the SE area of town. We realized that most of the restaurants in the area close at 9 pm or earlier. It was almost 9 pm already and did not want to be those customers coming in minutes before closing. Lucky for us we were able to find Son Nam, which is in Gulf Gate mall strip center. They were open until 10 pm on a week night. We ordered the beef banh mi as a combo we opted for the chicken spring roll and a bowl of wonton soup, we also got the pork vermicilli, and the shaking beef. All of the dishes were delicious, I must say the pork is the my favorite meat out of the chicken, beef, or pork regardless of what kind of base I'd pick. The service was prompt and they have a special where if you give them your phone number you are enrolled in their rewards program, it's 10% cash back basically. read more

Spoke to an old colleague yesterday and, quite like Pavlov's experiment, starting thinking about Vietnamese food - specifically banh mi. My colleague introduced me to banh mi, and since then, have fanned the flames of my banh mi cravings. Anyways, I went ahead and searched for affordable banh mi and stumbled upon this restaurant. I ordered the pork banh mi, chicken fried rice, and classic Thai tea to be delivered. The chicken fried rice was so yummy. My initial thinking was to have a small bowl of rice and then the sandwich. THREE bowls later, I had to stage an intervention on myself. I still forged ahead and tackled the sandwich which was deeeeelishhhhh. Easily the best banh mi (in my limited banh mi tasting experience) that I've had. Needless to say, I've now added this store as one of my go-to banh mi restaurants. I highly recommend. read more

Came here for dinner with a friend. Order a chicken Bahn mi with a cup of noodles and rice. For my drink I asked for a hot tea and the server nodded but only brought me a water. The food overall was pretty good but the service was a little lacking. Our server was eating while we were eating , which I don't mind, I know that it may have been his only chance to get some food but I didn't like that we came from having his hands on his food and near his mouth to come serve us. Once I went in to pick up my order she came out from the kitchen and she dropped someone's banh mi sandwich on the floor, yes it's wrapped but still she just picked it up and put it in a bag for someone else as she and her coworkers just laughed about it. Then I get home and one of our togo boxes was damaged... just makes me think of how she probably dropped my food too and just threw it in the bag.
