TL;DR: Go get the pho and the eggrolls. I don't know what had made me bookmark Cuu Long Quan, but I had - and after dropping off hubby at Hobby, I went to check it out. I almost didn't after seeing how run down it looks from the outside, but don't make that mistake and go. The inside is actually nice. The elderly gentleman who took the order must be the owner. He doesn't seem warm initially but I realized later on that it's due to the language barrier and that he's actually quite sweet. I normally hate egg rolls, especially the kind at Chinese restaurants with cabbage inside. But the egg rolls here looked really crispy, so I decided to give it a try. I also ordered a large #13 pho with steak, brisket, and tendon without cilantro, per usual. The egg rolls were filled with a seasoned ground meat mixture that was delicious. What makes them addictive and so fun to eat is the insanely crispy texture. Listen to the crunch in the video. It also comes with a lot of vegetables including the julienned cucumber and pickled carrots. 6/5 and instantly added to my Best of Houston list. I would come here just for this. But the pho here also gave it a run for the money. The broth was good but I would still put it at a 4.4/5. The meat in the broth though - that steak melted in my mouth. Hands down the best beef I've had in a bowl of pho. 5/5 Half way through that bowl, I ordered the lemongrass tofu dish to go for my vegetarian friend. I didn't get to try it, but she said it was awesome. So I walked in on my own and ordered three dishes. Still so affordable, and thoroughly enjoyable. Was looking for a tasty pho spot closer to my job and unfortunately I'm still searching. Service was ok. The man at the front was attentive and service was quick. The chicken Pho was very bland. It was like a hot bowl of sweat. I had to put everything condiment and side available to me inside the soup to make it somewhat enjoyable. This was a superb hole in the wall restaurant my partner and I stumbled on while looking for a pit stop close to the Hobby airport. I enjoyed the bun vermicelli with beef and was delighted by the dish. It came with the aforementioned noodle and a decent portion of meat atop a bed of shredded lettuce and vegetables. The icing on the cake was that the price was less than $10 for a huge meal. My partner on the other hand claimed that his Hu Tieu rice noodle soup was more pho style than what they were hoping for, so a slight miss on that end. My partner and I really enjoy Cuu Long Quan and its unpretentious but solid food. Each of the dishes we've tried have been quite good, with what I would describe as traditional Viet flavors and charm, and are particularly impressive given their low prices. We try to stop in before heading to or coming back from Hobby Airport, as it's no more than a few minutes from the arrival/departure terminal. There is plenty of parking in the strip mall it's located in, and don't let the exterior turn you away. From our most recent trip, I enjoyed the spring rolls with peanut sauce and eggroll vermicelli. You receive a hearty serving for both items. The eggrolls were crunchy, yet not overly oily, provided a nice contrast to the soft vermicelli, carrots, crushed peanuts, and a dressing that likely contains fish sauce for a nice sweet/umami combo. Several of my friends and I went to the Botanic Gardens and wanted lunch after our morning visit. I read some good reviews of this spot. But when we got there my friends were apprehensive as the front entry is not too inviting. I told them it had stellar reviews so we went in and the older man at the counter seated us at a big table, there were 8 of us. He quickly took drink orders and then food orders. I asked him, point blank, what he recommended and he suggested #47 which was a medley of proteins over rice vermicelli noodles with fresh veggies. Funny but the rest of my group also asked what he suggested. In the end we all had such excellent food delivered! Everything we had was fresh and hot, good tasty ingredients and full of Vietnamese flavor. If I lived nearby I would dine her often. I will add, the servings are very generous, the bowl I had was chock full and almost hard to finish for lunch. The ice tea was fresh and not canned or anything like that. Very unassuming, hole in the wall restaurant a little ways south of downtown Houston. Its on the way to Hobby airport though so great stop if you want some lunch or dinner before flying. It seems to be run by an older couple and the male presenting owner doesn't seem to have a great grasp of English but you can point and order. Service was very quick and efficient, no chitchatting as I don't speak Vietnamese. We ordered the egg rolls, pho dac biet, and the vegetarian crispy egg noodles. All dishes came out pretty quick and were all delicious. The pho broth was very clean and complex and just so flavorful. There was also a lot of meat to go with it. The egg rolls were large and had a nice assortment of veggies to do some wraps. The gravy that came with the egg noodles was also delicious and a great way to soften up the crispy noodles and still getting some crunch with the noodles too. My sons wanted Vietnamese food while on the SE side town. I haven't eaten here since my daughter was in college. Glad we rediscovered it today. We were happy to see that it had vegetarian options because my younger son is trying to avoid meat. The prices are quite reasonable. Plus we had leftovers of the pork stir-fry with fish sauce and the tofu. The cha gio were shaped longer and flatter than what other restaurants serve but these seemed to stay crispy longer. I was looking at several places for Vietnamese in Houston and decided on this one because the interior looked really cool. There is a fish tank, dolphin statues, lots of neat decor. I saw things on here about bad service, weird smells, etc. None of that was the case! It was clean inside, the food was fresh, and the service was immediate. There seems to be only one waiter/manager, an older man. He doesn't talk much and will only say "okay" to a lot of things you're saying, but it's not out of rudeness. Just make sure he sees clearly what you're ordering. We had pork vermicelli, egg rolls, and tofu stir fry. All were fresh and excellent, nice portions and great prices. I had the iced coffee as well, nice and strong with sweetened condensed milk, perfect for summer. Me and my gf were in the mood for a post gym meal and settled on Vietnamese food. We found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We called once but the guy hung up after saying hello, but we weren't mad about it because he's all business, no talk. While visiting Houston for work, a coworker and I had lunch here. He'd never had pho before and was skeptical. I was totally craving it so I assured him I wouldn't let him make a poor choice and we went with the best rated place nearby. As soon as we walked in, I was confident that Yelp hadn't led us wrong. We both ordered the rare beef pho and split an order of egg rolls. Hands down a some of the best pho I've had anywhere. The broth was exactly what I expect from someone who really knows what they're doing and takes the time to do it right. The fresh veggie plate that accompanied the soup was well proportioned and had all the classic elements. And the egg rolls! Crispy, fresh, piping hot and served on a bed of greens and delicious pickled carrots. My skeptical coworker was also suitably impressed. The men's room was tidy and the dining room was as well. The older gent who waited on us was competent and efficient. As one other reviewer mentioned, not exactly friendly but definitely not unfriendly. I actually got a kick out of him. I asked for a small pho (about twice the size of the bowls I use at home) and he almost argued that it was barely any food and he didn't want me to go away hungry. With half a portion of their excellent egg rolls, quantity it was about perfect. Prices were surprisingly decent, especially considering the quality of the food. The outside of the restaurant is rusty, but don't let it fool you. That is a sign of great hidden authentic Viet food! We order the grilled pork spring rolls, combination pho, and the wonton soup. And boy all of them were really delicious! The pho broth has a such an authentic, delicious northern Vietnam pho flavor and smell. The beef is super juicy and veggies are really fresh. Out of all the pho places I've tried in the US (and I've lived in southern California for 8 years), this place is definitely among the top 3. Service was not the best, but I didn't come for that. This restaurant deserves more customers for the quality of food it serves. The price was cheap too for the portion. Vietnamese people are rating this place 5 stars, so yeah. My sister use to take me here and we could get pho with fish balls. The fish balls are outstanding. One of my other favorite Vietnamese dishes is the bun Thit nuong. It was always so fresh and the pieces of meats were always top quality. This restaurant is very affordable and does not skimp on customer service. Waiters and staff are very nice. I remember also coming here with a friend and we ordered the fish. Also delicious. My fav foods here are 1: fried fish. Yummmm comes with white rice and veggies such as cucumbers and picketed carrots. And of course fish sauce for dipping. 2: hu tieu ap chao. This is the best dish in town. I've also ordered this same dish from tan tan. It cannot be compared. The seafood is better and the ap chao is the best. No one makes it like this restaurant. 3: chicken spring rolls: delicious. Perfectly cooked and it comes with peanut or fish sauce as dipping sauce. I prefer the peanut sauce. I've tried other dishes here and these three are my absolute fav foods in the SE side of town and it's much cheaper than other restaurants. The parking bc situation here is ghetto and there are a lot of pot holes. So be careful.
