The only reason I haven't reviewed this place is because the food and drinks are SO GOOD that I keep forgetting to take pictures!!!!!!!!!! They're gone before my consciousness comes back from devouring their food!!!!!! Maybe I was subconsciously gate keeping this place but here it goes. I've tried their corn, peach, mango muffins, and ham and cheese croissant which were all gone before I knew it. Spiced hibiscus tea, black currant tea, chai tea, all gone before I knew it!!!!!! I also like that whats on the menu may change daily! Just knowing how good everything is, I'm excited to try variety of stuff from this place. If you want food and drinks that were made and brewed with CARE and LOVE, this is the place to go. I loooooove brewing tea myself and the way they time each kind of tea differently and know what sweetener and extra stuff goes with each tea tells me they CARE for the food and drinks to taste good and for us to enjoy it. And the price?!?!?!?!?!?! It's hard not to go there everyday. They also sell some antique/decorative stuffs and i love the cool vibe in that store. It's easy to miss on the outside and is quaint with a crafty vibe to it. The Iced Latte was made really well; it was smooth, creamy, and frothy. This is probably one of the only places in NYC where you can get Iced Coffee Cubes instead of regular ones! I found that it made the latte richer and bolder, and even when it melted, it was just more coffee! They use premium drip iced coffee to make those cubes which is great. Great try! read more

It's such a cute shop with apparently great coffee according to my girlfriend. I missed out on the namesake cookies because a customer had already bought them all out but I tried instead the mango, vanilla, and chocolate cupcakes, all with vanilla buttercream. The vanilla was my favorite, plain and simple with moist breading and a good amount of frosting. The chocolate was a bit too dense and wasn't as fluffy as the others. Will have to come back here again to try the cookies and rotating cupcake flavors. read more

Finally made it to this place, which is right around the corner for me and was not dissapointed. It's quaint and has a gift store type vibe in front. I already had coffee, so I went for a pastry and the cupcake muffins sounded so good! They also had a funfetti one, which I'll hopefully be able to try next time. Love this little coffee shop in Astoria near where my friends live. The owner is super sweet and the baked goods are amazing. I've tried both cupcakes and cookies from here before and the cupcakes are so damn fluffy and moist. Like the epitome of home-made fresh with love. I have been in love with this neighborhood spot for years now. Sonny and Jess always have incredible food and drinks prepped for the day. There are fresh baked cupcakes, muffins, cookies, and sandwiches every day. Sometimes, they even make other special items that never cease to amaze me. I honestly have never been disappointed when coming here. It feels like home in many ways for they never forget your name or your order once you have been there a few times. I started visiting Sonbobs right when the pandemic was starting. The owner here is quite flexible with her business, and she was offering handmade hand sanitizers. At that time, the sanitizer section of any pharmacy was entirely wiped away so I was grateful to get one here. The owner pays attention to what the customers need at the time and offer it at a reasonable price point. She is also savvy with her Instagram account as I am often lured into the coffee shop when I see pictures of cupcakes and cakes that she baked for the day. She is also cheerful in person and I always get positive vibes when I visit. I haven't gotten the coffee here yet since I always come for something else here, even though this is a coffee shop! Ummm.... I'm extremely confused. First off, from just a cursory glance (not because I didn't want to look around but I really felt unwelcome) the place has all kinds of really interesting things to look at. It's super cute. I wanted a cupcake, there was only one left. Not a problem, it was a little after four when I stopped in. But the lady at the counter was so extremely curt, it really seemed as if she was just over it and wanted me out of there. I was really taken aback. As for the cupcake, the cake itself was a good flavor but dry. The frosting was dry as well and not especially well-mixed. So thanks to a new FB friend I heard about a very small coffee shop on 34th Street and 28th Avenue, (34-15 28th Avenue), which I had walked past many times, and probably because of its very low key physical profile, I had simply overlooked or missed. There is no visible awning that protrudes out into the street. Instead, it is very easy to miss the coffee shop and I was walking back and forth trying to identify the establishment. Finally, I saw the window display and walked inside. Sonbobs reminds me of an eclectic book store/antique store or tarot parlor with dangly curtains when you enter. I was due to meet a friend for coffee and she showed up after I arrived. Sonbobs is very small and has a limited number of food options. Nevertheless the ham sandwich was delicious and sandwiched on fresh hero with cheese. Afterward, we had lemon-flavored cupcakes The Ice coffee was just right. You get the option of two types of ice cubes, water or coffee cubes. There was no backyard seating that was visible to me. There are a couple of tables and chairs out front. I was planning to go to a grill across the street afterward, but the conversation with my new friend was so much more fun. Among our conversations was a discussion of the best places to eat in Astoria. -as you know by now that is very close to my heart, being a true foodie -covering the Astoria scene for nearly eleven years. read more

With its "cozy nook" vibe, good coffee and homemade desserts ($3.81 for coffee and cookie, I also got free refills!), this place is perfect for a low/key weekday morning getaway. Yay new super local spots! Shout-out to Sonnie the owner and Jessica for great service! It's more of a social space / curl up with a book space than a work space, but there is a bar for laptops in the back. There's WiFi, games, books, a Magic 8 Ball #throwback, and even merch! The woman who tended to me made a custom blend of Peppermint tea and served me up a ham and cheese croissant along with a strawberry muffin. The food along with the tea sent me to heaven and back. Cold sandwich with no flavor, Oscar Mayer level of deli meat. Garlic bread for a sandwich is a good idea but I couldn't taste the garlic. The guacamole was totally bland. I don't know how you can make an avocado taste bad, but this place managed to. Coffee was totally bland. A gem off the beaten path! Someone I follow on Instagram posted about Sonbobs and the cake and food looked so good, I knew I had to try it. When they posted a photo of a cake on Instagram the next day, I convinced my husband to walk over with me. It is small but cozy and decorated like your best friends house. We had a slice of the cake - vanilla with vanilla buttercream I think and then my husband had the chai and I had a hot apple cider. I believe it was the owner there but I could be wrong. She was so friendly and welcomed our infant crawling around the main area. My husband said the chai was some of the best he has had. We really enjoyed walking over here and will again in the future even though it's a little further than we normally would go! Sonbobs can best be described as the 'Central Perk' of Astoria. This cafe is an unpretentious, warm, welcoming neighborhood staple. I grew up in Astoria and places like this just don't exist anymore and coming here is often the best part of my day. They have a fantastic selection of teas, great iced coffee with coffee cubes, and daily fresh baked muffins and cakes (always something tasty on the menu). The owner is an artist and a pleasure to chat with. There are open mic nights the 4th Friday of every month. The design is quirky and fun and makes you feel like you're having coffee in your grandma's living room. They have a loyalty card. This is a great local coffee shop! The name is short for Sonnie's Bits and Bobs (cute!). The coffee was very reasonable and good. We didn't try her "bits and bobs" as we already had a huge brunch before, but she was baking cookies that smelled AMAZING. The venue is really relaxing and cozy, and a great place to catch up with a friend or read. There's games/books out and eclectic items for sale too.
