We chose this hotel because we specifically wanted a suite. Suites typically have a separate bedroom, otherwise they would be simply called a hotel room. This was not a suite. It was a slightly larger room with a sofa just a few feet away from the beds. Not only was this not a suite, but the bathroom sink was just a few feet away from the bed. If one needed to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, they would have to awaken everyone in the room by turning on the light to wash their hands. We decided to make the best of it, and looked for ice in our freezer to have a drink (kitchen was also in the one big room). No ice. No ice cube trays. We called the front desk to ask for the location of an ice machine. She told us to move the arm down on our ice maker. We told her there was no ice maker. She insisted there was. We told her again there wasn't. She didn't believe us. She finally offered us some ice from their kitchen, which we had to go get. Breakfast. Wasn't. Apples, cereal, granola bars and packaged, sugary muffins. There was a toaster, but nothing to toast. Even the cheapest motels offer bagels, English muffins or bread. Oh, and they allow animals. If you are allergic, or don't want to hear barking at all hours, stay away. Come to think of it, stay away anyway. They got a star because the bed was comfortable. They also do not provide any service. You need towels, or soap, or anything - come and get it....lol. Don't forget to make your bed. read more

There was an unknown splatter on the bathroom wall, behind the door, not sure if it gets missed or is stained. full kitchen is nice. The vinyl couch and chair were weird 80s vibe I generally don't complain but it wasn't as clean as it should be, there was food remnants in the microwave and fridge. read more

Is it nice? It's ok Is it ok? I've been to worse. Could it be better? Yes! I've stayed 2 times here and the first time was great as I was in a loft room (it's a must). If you have bottom floor room you will notice that your neighbors have lead feet. The bottom floors are pet friendly so if you bring a pet this is what you get. Take a look at my picks and you will see a numerously stained floor. Was it dog piss or human piss they could not clean? My $100 carpet shampooer could have done better. So pissed by this I went to shoot hoops only to have to hope that the net holding the backdrop of the hoop would not snap off and impale me or my kids as I did my best Jordan moves on them. Seriously it needs to be fixed as someone will get hurt and it looks like shit. See pics. The people who work there are very nice and and I enjoyed their service and the breakfast. The location is great but seriously they need to undercover boss this shit and update the property. The other highlight I had was the walking my dog and the two maintenance workers smoking some weed behind the building. Lucky for me my dog got a contact buzz and was chill for the night because the bottom floor always has movement around. As the Jersey shore continues to price itself out of business, I find myself moving further offshore. The hotel we usually stay at on the boardwalk wanted about $500 per night for a basic room whereas this spot only cost a little over $200 a night for a room with a kitchen and two beds and sitting area. The room was more than sufficient and the bed was one of the comfiest I've ever slept in in a hotel. Areas of opportunity for this hotel include the housekeeper situation. There isn't one. The only housekeeper you'll see is the one banging on your door two hours before checkout time trying to flip your room while you're still sleeping in it. Maybe clarify your checkout time with the front desk so as to avoid a similar situation. Also they run out of towels with alarming frequency. They offer towels at the pool too which is nice, but I'd rather be responsible for my own pool towel and have enough for bathing. Another thing that I can't imagine can be easily fixed but is worth mentioning is that the basketball court is right next to the pool. There is no relaxation to be had when inches from your head is a ball pounding incessantly on concrete. All things considered I would absolutely stay here again, and plan to in the near future. Saving hundreds of dollars is totally worth the five minute drive! read more

The check-in process was abysmal. We provided our credit card to pay the $100 security deposit and were told our credit card declined. Extremely concerned, we checked out mobile banking app that showed that the transaction had gone through. The gentleman at the desk kept insisting it had declined, until another employee showed him that he ran our credit card incorrectly...way to make us nervous! Other guests checking in around us were asked which floor they wanted to stay on, except for us! He just placed us in a room on the ground floor. When asked if we could stay on the second floor, we were told there was no more second floor rooms. The employee next to him then jumped in and said, "That's not true, we have plenty of second floor rooms." We went up to our room and about an hour later, we heard someone approach our door and entered our room with a keycard! We then realized that the guy at the front desk did not in-fact check us into the hotel, but gladly took our $100. From that moment on, we were fearful that other guests could potentially enter our room. While the bed was very comfortable and clean, it looked like someone was murdered in our bathroom. The tub had scattered orange-red stains, and the carpeting outside the bathroom had a blood stain. Not to mention other cigarette stains in the carpeting and hair on the shower curtain. Breakfast was average, your standard continental spread, but nothing to write home about. read more

My family and I had a reservation at this hotel last night. As we were pulling into the lot we received a phone call from the hotel telling us they cancelled our reservation as they were overbooked. They blamed it on Expedia however the hotel didn't call us until 6:45pm at night as we were arriving. I highly doubt they were unaware they were overbooked earlier in the day when we could have had a better chance of obtaining an alternate hotel. Instead the woman who called us offered no solutions or assistance and essentially told us everything nearby was full. They left my husband, myself, and our three children without a place to stay the night. Do not recommend this hotel, the lack of customer service was unacceptable. read more

The actual stay was nice. We originally requested a suite with a king bed and asked for two beds instead once we arrived. They accommodated us with no problem and didn't charge extra, though online they often charge more for two beds rather than a king. The layout of the suite was fantastic. Two large TVs, great little kitchen (though we didn't use it). They only provided enough towels for two people though, so we had to call and ask for extra since there were 3 of us. Breakfast was typical hotel fare - breads, powdered eggs, sausage, oatmeal, juices, etc. Nothing exciting, but we filled up because whenever there's free food, you just do. The hiccup - I purchased the room through an American Airlines offer via a third party because of a special promotion giving me a few thousand extra frequent flyer miles. At the time of the reservation with the third, the payment for the room was deducted from my credit card. When I was checking in, the hotel said they said they would take my card for a deposit. Pretty normal, but a few days later, I looked at my cc statement and saw the deposit was for a pretty hefty amount; it was almost the same amount as the room itself. I called the third party to follow up and after about a week, the issue was resolved and the amount was taken off my cc. Just extra work. read more

When it unlocked you had to kick the swollen door open...and then kick it closed again to make sure it latched Carpet in the room was wet..smelled of mold and mildew. Water from the taps was brown for 30 seconds. Toilet was full of rust debris The "clean" bed had long black hairs inside the "clean" sheets. Horrible experience. We booked a room with two full sized regular beds for our family of four, but when we checked in they said all we could have was a full bed plus pull out. We opened up the pull out to find a dead bug on top of the mattress. We wanted to leave immediately but there's nothing else available at 11pm on a Friday night in June. There are stains on the ceiling and walls and floors. The shower is skeevy. We will leave as fast as we can in the morning. Don't book this hotel. read more

Stayed at the Sonesta in Somerspoint NJ. I can honestly say it was a terrible experience. I've never seen a hotel that kept the rooms so dirty. The kitchen had grease on the stove,dirt on top of the refrigerator and the counter tops were white with dust. To make matters even worse the sheets on my king-size bed had blood stains.WOW!!!! I wouldn't recommend this place even if the stay was free. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this hotel. read more

I don't think I can say enough positive things about this hotel. The room was more like a condo! Full kitchen, two bathrooms, two bedrooms, large and comfortable sofa bed. Traveling with four children can be a challenge, so the opportunity to spread out was nice. The front desk staff was very welcoming. The lobby was large and welcoming as well. The room was clean and comfortable during the night. Breakfast was amazing. Hot, fresh and plentiful. The operations manager was standing in for the regular food service specialist and she was so pleasant. My children loved this stay, as did I! I just stayed here for one night. I travel a lot for business, and stay loyal to places that I have good experiences with. I have actually stayed here with the family because I've had good experiences. Cal at the front desk was amazing. He was very friendly and very personable. Knowledgable of the area. A few positives - 1. Room was cool 70° (it was 90°+ outside) 2. The bed was extremely comfortable 3. Bathrooms were clean 4. Plenty of parking* (Arrived at 2pm and checked in. Later in the evening, I overheard other customers cursing about the lack of parking). 5. Kitchen was clean A few downsides 1. In Room 224, neither of the showers drain properly 2. There were a lot of stains on the rugs. This was surprising because they had the rugs cleaned in May 2019. I know this because I was staying here when the Rug Cleaning Company was here....And they let them in my room during my stay. 3. Extremely high price for one night. $408 ... CRAZY!!! I get that its prime time summer time and it was one night....However, I stay here 5+ times a year for business and 3 times a year with family. That high of a price, with some of these negatives, I could have stayed at the Econo Lodge down the road for a week. Now obviously, I wouldn't do that for loyalty purposes and the kitchen accommodation, but still the point is, price was abnormally high. 5. They did seem short staffed. Cal was the only one at the front desk. He was checking people in, trying to answer hotel calls and answering external calls. The people who manage this hotel are lower than pond scum. They intentionally and willfully mislead their guests when booking by failing to make it clear that this hotel has cancelled their longtime tradition of having a full breakfast for their guests each morning. In addition, they have eliminated all housekeeping which includes emptying trash and providing fresh towels. They don't have any staff to accommodate any of the normally anticipated amenities of any hotel/motel. The worst aspect of this betrayal of their guests is they use the unethical and immoral excuse of COVID-19. Their direct peer/competition in the immediate area Is Pier IV and they have housekeeping and so do all the motels in the immediate area. This is a business decision to increase profits under the guise of a horrific pandemic. There are no signs in the hotel lobby nor any other notification of these service failures until you happen to expect them and you learn they have been eliminated with no notice nor advance notice at time of booking. They keep it a tight secret until the guest uncovers these service failures and then they accept the unconscionable excuse of COVID-19. This hotel management should be ashamed of themselves and corporate should make changes....today!!!! read more

If there is a possibility of minus stars, I would have given minus stars because this place is a scam. Even though there is a notice in the room that says light housekeeping is possible under 7 days of stay, they refused to provide the light housekeeping stating that the notice in the room is outdated, which is a blatant lie. The wifi in the room is non-existent and when we contacted the front desk, they lied multiple times. The wifi in the room is just a joke and the front desk and maintenance blatantly lie about it instead of saying sorry and trying to help. All the people that we contacted told us different things and none of them was true. The breakfast is a joke, hotels provide a breakfast bag during this covid time but this hotel can't even get us water, just some nuts and a granola bar or something. The pool is closed and they say they are waiting for the municipality to test the pool but it seems like no one is coming since June 18. I believe that is a lie too. Most importantly, front desk lies all the time and they are not even sorry about it. The worst customer service ever!! Housekeeping is non-existent, front desk refuses to provide. Wifi is non-existent. No pool. Breakfast is a joke. Front desk lies. Customer service is just horrendous. SHAME ON YOU! There is also no management at the hotel, all of them are on vacation in the middle of the high season with the most guests. Looks like this hotel is about to get closed and they fired the staff. I had ankle surgery, a while ago we had reserved a room with a king sized bed, ADA accessible bath room. On arrival I was given a room with a queen sized bed and while the bathroom was ADA standard all furniture had to be moved in order to get the wheelchair into the bathroom. It took a week to be moved to the King room after several complaints made. Due to it being an extended stay there was no daily service, only once every 7 days. When they showed up the first time, the poor girl was not given any tools to clean, she cleaned the floor on her hands and knees. They also did not supply any cleaning supplies or equipment in order to clean on our own. There were ants, crumbs and mold everywhere. If we did not buy the bleach cleaner ourselves we would not be able to have stay there. Poorly run by management and there was no training nor oversight of the staff. read more

My family and I have stayed at this property dozens of times over the past 12 years. Recently cancelled our most recent scheduled stay due to poor conditions and housekeeping. Given the fact that the review can only be 200 words I will share just the top pros and cons. 1-minimum of two towels bath, hand, face towels per room regardless of number of people staying. We requested an extra set since we are a family of three and were advised 3 times that they did not have any and gave us a stack of hand towels instead. 2-carpets were not vacuumed once during our stay of 7 days. Beds were never made. Sheets not changed once. Our room was commercially shampooed while it was occupied. Our belongings were on the floor at the time along with my toddlers toys and they shampooed around them. Horrible. Then we got to walk around on wet carpets for two days. Our toddler accidentally soiled the sheets one night. We called the front desk to advise what happened and asked to have our sheets changed. The response was "no, housekeeping only changes then every 7 days." That morning we saw one of the housekeepers at the pier with his hummer fishing and my husband and I joked to make light of the horrible situation by saying "well that's why our room is getting cleaned" 3-no parking one of the next during our stay. Front desk response was "sorry we're booked up" 4-other guests outside smoking pot and drinking during early afternoon/evening hours. Not something you want your children seeing on your family vacation to ocean city. Pool is wonderful. Nothing but good things to say about that and if the rest of our stay and room were cared for the same way then this would be a very different review. Mary at the front desk of absolutely wonderful. We have worked with her for years. Many other major and minor issues however to many to list in 200 words. Extremely disappointed, shocked and no response back from corporate at this time on issues. Again we have stayed here many times over the past 12 years going back to the prior property manager and each and every time we go back it gets worse and worse. We had 4 trips planned for this year alone and cancelled the last two as we will not waste our money at a place like this. I would think that even the econo has better service. read more

For the premium price that we payed, wasn't that great. As we arrived, we saw a dead roach on the window sill from the outside (guess they don't look there but it's clearly visible). Cleaning lady insisted that she clean our room at 9:30 AM or she wouldn't do it. (And this is after paying a premium price). The pancakes were stale, and they had trouble refilling things at breakfast. They only provided us with 2 towels for 4 people. I guess it's a pretty good location, and the pool is nice. This was our first visit to Ocean city, NJ and was not quite sure where to stay. I happened upon Sonesta ES Suites while searching for hotels in the area. I am really glad I did. We chose the 2 level suite since we were travelling with a 20 year old and this way, she can have her own space and hubby and I can have some alone time. It was a great room and I felt like it was a home away from home feel. The free breakfast was a plus as well to help us save on the cost of our trip. It was only about a 4 minute drive to the beach which was great!!! The customer service at the front desk as well as the breakfast area was great! There is ample parking as well. I enjoyed a leisure dip in the heated pool, I am glad the front desk told me it was heated so I was able to enjoy that since this past weekend was a chilly one. There was an issue with very loud music from another room. It was so loud that I thought it was coming from the loft area in our suite. I called the front desk and within 10 minutes, I could not hear it anymore. I really felt as though the staff valued our stay. I had a friend who was staying here longterm so I came for an overnight visit with my boyfriend. His room was very nice and up to date. He had a room with two Queen beds, a loft with a king sized bed, and two bathrooms. It was very spacious and definitely enough room to have a family of 4-5 stay in. It is about 30 minutes from Atlantic City and about 15 from the Ocean City beaches. Would recommend! read more

So I went to the front desk and asked for what I needed. They were nice really nice about it. Also the room prior to checking in was not really cleaned. This Suite was just perfect. The rooms were neat and pretty, there was a kitchen (which was absolutely beautiful), a living room (which had a beautiful color pattern and layout), two bedrooms (one with two queen sized beds and one with one king) and two bathrooms (one in every bedroom). The only problem was that there was no house keeping even when we asked. My mom went up to ask for towels to take a shower because there were none when we got home from the beach. That happened twice. On our last day, before checking out, a lady finally knocked on the door without having to ask, and said "House keeping". We told her we didn't need her THAT day. That was the first and only time that they came. The pool was so pretty and blue and my sister loves it. One of the best parts of this place was that it was about only five minutes away from Ocean City Beach and Boardwalk. We went there every single day we came except for the first because it was cloudy. In conclusion, this hotel was very nice, except for the house keeping problem. This hotel was awful! We stayed here because everything close to the boardwalk was booked, and the pictures on their website looked great. The size of the room was exactly what we needed along with a full kitchen and 2 bathrooms. This place needs a serious DEEP cleaning! It was so gross and I didn't walk anywhere in that room without shoes on. Their were ants everywhere! We called maintenance and they came and sprayed but I feel afterwards they just grew in number. They were all over the kitchen, our bedrooms (in bed with my kids!) and it was just a very uncomfortable stay. The handrails were sticky and there was a dirty handprint on the wall going upstairs to the loft. I found someone else's toenail clippings next to my nightstand...GROSS!! The bathrooms had other people's hair everywhere and the tiles were all broken and uneven so when you stepped on one it popped up. Housekeeping is a joke. On the card it says they change the trash, make the beds, etc. if you're staying less than 7 days. Well they changed ONE trash can on the first day and didn't even bother to make the beds. The second day they did remember to change both trash cans but did a half ass job making the beds, my kids could have done better! This place needs new employees who give a crap or a new manager. read more

When we checked in the front desk was pleasant & informed us they only do light cleaning on the weekend. The suite was modern looking & had a small kitchen with plates, glass, utensils for 2 people which wasn't sufficient for a family of four. We got some snacks from the front desk which had a nice variety. Hummas & pretzels, pizza, and macaroni & cheese cups. When my husband went to get his pizza out of the oven there were no pot holders & his spatula broke. There was a dishwasher but no dishwasher detergent. When we went to use the bathroom there were pubic hairs on the floor & what looked like a pill. We had the front desk come clean it while we were out. The shower looked clean but once you got in you could see the beginning of mold. In the grout was pink soap scum which could easily be cleaned if the hotel bleached the shower. It made me question the cleanliness of my room. There were only 2 towels which again doesn't work for a family of 4. We were able to get more towels from the front desk & extra sheets & blankets for the pull out sofa. The 2 double beds were clean & comfortable. Overall, it was a pretty good value for $97/night but I would definitely recommend checking your room for cleanliness upon check-in so they can correct any problems. read more

Went there in July stay for three nights the rooms are very nice and they're all like mini apartments full kitchen with all the assessor he's nice little table area living room etc. when we went in July it includes a buffet breakfast with cold and hot food everything was excellent the hot food was very good all three mornings just recently came back from a four night stay had a different room was very nice the staff is very nice the grounds are very well-maintained great location five minutes away from Ocean City the only thing that is a disappointment is the pool is only open till eight and I feel it should be open a little later as some people stay at the hotel and work in the area and would like to go for a swim when they come home from work and also the breakfast buffet this time was very Disappointing French toast sticks weren't cooked pancakes were raw Sausage looked and tasted very nasty they do however have a variety of cereal oatmeal fruit bread bagels English muffins cream cheese jelly peanut butter which is great but I think they should focus on being a little more consistent with the hot food and maybe preparing it a little better and having a cook properly as I said in July everything was great this past visit French toast sticks won't even cooked pancakes weren't cooked but otherwise the hotel is definitely a 10 stars read more

We had a terrible experience. We were told this was a hotel. When we arrived, we discovered it was a motel. We paid a lot of money and expected a full service facility, including a bell boy and valet like other Sonesta properties we stayed in. The room had plastic furniture. The bathroom walls were dirty, the tub had porcelain missing and the floor tiles were old. There was no trash can and they only left half a roll of toilet tissue. . . .the following morning despite having the privacy sign on the door, housekeeping knocked several times, once very early waking us up and once actually coming into the room. . . .the breakfast was so awful, I was actually sick on the way home.. .i called Heather the manager to make her aware and she yelled at me. . . .This place was recommended to us from the country club across the street. I reserved a block of rooms for my upcoming wedding at Greate Bay Country Club. It was previously a Marriot Residence Inn when I chose this hotel to host my wedding guests. I chose this hotel for the customer service and location. The customer service has been extremely lacking since then, causing an administrative nightmare for my fiance and I and our guests. A few reservations were lost during the transition to Sonesta, including our room for our wedding night! Guests have been told the room block is full when it isn't. Guests were told that the room block does not exist. Guests have called multiple times where the front desk has not answered the phones, or they experieinced extremely long hold times. We have spent HOURS trying to sort out the reservations for our guests, trying to make sure they are booked under the wedding block at the correct rate. After multiple emails and phone calls to senior management, the issues continue and no one seems to care. We even came in person to go through each reservation one by one. Nearly every wedding guest who has tried to book has run into some type of issue. I would recommend to anyone hosting an event at Greate Bay to rethink booking at Sonesta, and consider shuttle service instead to another local hotel. read more
