Taro/grass jelly ice and milk pudding with black sesame
Julie C.

New Taiwanese dessert shop in Chinatown! We got the taro/grass jelly ice and milk pudding with black sesame paste. The taro dessert had a soft poi-like taro paste in it that was sooo good! And the milk pudding is light and paired so well with the nutty black sesame! I've never had these desserts but they were very yummy. The service was amazing, the cutest auntie helped us :) It is a cute shop with a few tables available! I would definitely go back!

Breakfast in Honolulu, Hawaii... Sundays are the best days to go to Chinatown because metered street parking is free! I found Song Kee Dessert across the street from Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery, and next to Cindy's Lei Shoppe. The space used to be occupied by Domo. The interior is cute and service is friendly and helpful! The kind woman gave me a free sample of the sweet potato gau! I ordered the gee mah koo (black sesame walnut soup) dessert and a Jasmine Lime Iced Tea. The soup is usually thicker, like a pudding, so this one was lighter and not too sweet! The iced tea was on the tart side, but refreshing! We had a pleasant foodie adventure here and look forward to returning!

How has no one else reviewed the awesome desserts here yet?!? We were walking through Chinatown and saw this cute shop serving Taiwanese Ice desserts and we had to stop in. The shop is adorable and there are actually inside tables where you can enjoy your dessert which is rare in this area. We ordered from the delightful cashier and she answered all of our questions. When our order arrived it was outstanding. We had the D3 which was Grass Jelly Deluxe with Taro Mochi Ball, Grass Jelly, Pudding, Taro, Red Beans, and Vanilla Ice Cream. It was great and so refreshing! The serving was plenty for two people to share and the price was very reasonable. You need to stop in here right away! I think they will be crowded soon!

Such a cute Hong Kong desert shop! Stumbled across this hole in the wall after lunch and noticed this desert place! The honey iced lemon tea and the herbal jelly with honey was so refreshing! I recommend the curry fish balls as a savory snack! There is a very wide range on their menu considering they just opened. But so far it's really good!!

Yummy dessert shop!! - Basque Double Cheese Cake: perfect to share with two people - Song's Double Skim Milk Pudding: comforting, light subtle taste of sweetness, very nostalgic and reminded me of something my mom used to make when I was a kid - Enping-style Cheong Fun: super yummy and savory!

This was a sweet spot to come after shopping in Chinatown! They have a variety from drinks, puddings, gao, soup, cheesecake and cheung funn. The desserts I tried was not to sweet or heavy. Very light and refreshing. The honey lemon tea brought me back to Hong Kong. Will be back to try the cheesecake!

We had to order one of their sig crab dishes, and we rounded out the meal w/ beef and long beans, sweet & sour pork belly, eggplant and fried rice. The crab was amazing! The curry sauce was so deep & complex. In addition, the crab was fresh bc they have tanks in the restaurant. Of course I called dibs on the head, and it was packed with goodies. I added rice to the head (in Ilocano this is called "labay", adding rice to soup or broth to extend the meal). I was in heaven. The other dishes were all big portions and very good. The meat was tender, and the veggies were fresh and crunchy. I believe all the other dishes were ~ $20/each. The staff was super nice. We didn't have a res, but luckily we were seated in 20 min on a busy Sun night. Regarding the dining area, its tight but comfy. You have to wash your hands after, and the bathrooms are clean. I will def return the next time I come home. I want to try another crab dish (about 8 versions), and build a meal around the crab.

I was greeted warmly and seated at a table with existing settings. The waitress brought two iced waters without prompting, and checked on me a couple of times. Other diners started trickling in one after another. My friend ended up being late so I decided to order for us both. The waitress was very patient with my questions. I decided to order mostly from the Chef's Specials menu: salted egg chicken fried rice, black pepper sizzling steak, salted egg yolk chicken wings (wasn't a chef's special but fellow Yelper Violet B said it's good). Friend wanted the curry crab with naan coz she was influenced, until she learned it's $78 per crab. Also it'd take 15-20 minutes to prepare since the crab would need to first be picked from the tank (she had to rush off somewhere else after our appointment) Food didn't take long; they were served not long after she arrived. Everything was tasty and portions were good for 3-4 persons. I had looked forward to the chicken wings most, but it fell a little short. They were crispy no doubt and perfectly fried, but I wish there were chunks of actual salted yolk in the sauce, which would have made it creamier. The wings weren't coated in the sauce either; the sauce was drizzled over them. Salted fish chicken fried rice had the wok fried fragrance, and the ratio of rice to salted fish, chicken, and veggies was perfect. My absolute favorite was the sizzling black pepper tenderloin steak! The meat was tender, juicy, and the black pepper sauce was delicious. It paired very well with the fried rice. Total was approx. $70. Service was attentive, although toward the end it felt like they were rushing us to pack up even though there were maybe two other tables of active diners. Interior decor is very bright and cheerful, definitely has Hong Kong vibes with the retro mosaic aesthetic, which is quite mahjong-esque.

The tables and benches are very basic and not cushioned, which makes for quick customer turnover. We hardly waited 2 minutes before they called us; even though there was a queue the entire time we were there it seems they go really quickly. Focus is on noodles (recommended) or rice dishes. We had beef chow fun (thick noodles) and a rice-noodle soup with pork and picked cabbage. Both dishes were very good. The chow fun was smoky, as if cooked on high heat, and the rice noodles were nicely spiced. The rice noodles came in a delicious broth. Parking is tough in Chinatown but there are several pay lots around. Be careful because the private pay lots can get expensive. There's also two municipal pay lots, each about 2 blocks away.

We were lucky to get the seats that were up a few stairs to see everyone below us. Because we saw the crowd, Jade Dynasty must be a favorite for many! Service was great. Our waiter was very polite & was able to speak in English for us - the other team members were polite, too, but understood Chinese better. Snow Mountain Char Siu Bao was our favorite. The newest dish for us & worth ordering the next time. All the other dishes were good. ..be careful ordering too much. It's a lot of food! Delicious!

Food here is always good. My bad review is about the service…read more First we are regular customers. Even the waiter was asking why we were here so often. Waiter was fine. We have a family dinner celebrating my late mom's birthday. When we arrived, the hostess put us in a private room. Very cool, even if the room was the one they serve all the tea out of. Restaurant was not too crowded and the parties were on the other side. My sister had a pre-planned menu. So far so good right. Then we were told the room had a minimum order amount of $400. We thought the planned menu was going to be under that. Over $300 but maybe under $400. So the manager put us across the restaurant on a smaller table that will technically fit the ten of us. But pretty tight. And right in front of the bathroom. Good service, to me, would be to say, "Don't worry about the minimum tonight and enjoy the room." We did not ask for it, but were seated in it by the hostess. Wait staff was great. Management, maybe not so much.
