Worst food and service I've had in a very long time. Burgers tasted terrible like something you'd get in an inner city school cafeteria. The service was slow and the booths barely worked. They don't use roller skates. And for all my troubles and hard earned money they don't even offer refills. I love sonic. I love their happy hour drinks. I love their food. I do not in any way shape or form like this location. I've been holding off on writing a review because the last 3 times I've gone have been bad and I really hate writing bad reviews, but today was the icing on the cake. First I'll talk about the past, they used to be great until they closed up and then decided to reopen. Once that happened it's all down hill. The last time we were here we waited 15 mins and 4 cars ahead of us to get to the speaker only for them to tell us their credit/debit card machines were not working. Cash only. I mean how hard would it of been for them to send one of many workers who take food to cars to just politely tell the customers waiting that they are only accepting cash which we didn't have so we had to leave. This last time my daughters were sick and they wanted slushies. And one wanted just a cup of ice. We had 5 cars ahead of us and waited about 10 mins. But there was at least another 5 cars behind us. I ordered and got up to pay and realized I forgot the cup of ice. So I asked if I could add it to my order. This was before I paid and I've done this many times at multiple places and never had an issue it's just added to the order and I pay. The lady says yeah you can add it. Then comes back and says no I'm sorry were not allowed to add stuff if you want it you have to go back around and wait in line again..... Are you kidding me? Seriously? I hadn't even paid yet and they couldn't add the cup of ice? Very very annoying and I will go anywhere else but here and recommend any other sonic locations except this one. Atwater Sonic is back! They were super busy, so it may have been faster to go to Merced, but we are so glad to have them back in Atwater. Looking forward to many more trips here, and hopefully the car shows will return. read more

Great daily drink deals, pretty good food, great frozen treats, and unique drink creations, and on some of them you get to create your own crazy concoctions! Pretty good standard divey type food,burgers, hot dogs, fries and such. Probably one of the best features is the old time car hop service if you want, or you can just go through the drive thru. read more

I really like this place because of the menu. It's different from your typical burger joint and I guess that's because its not really a burger restaurant, its a general American food restaurant. It has other things, like shakes, slushes, ice cream, tator-tots, and hotdogs! My fav fast food to eat is a good hot dog. What can I say I am a simple guy. They seem to have better-then-average-to-very-good hotdogs at Sonic. I haven't tried them all, but I really like the Chicago style dog. The service here is good and as fast as it can be for a place that seems to be packed all the time. BTW, I plan on coming here as much as my wallet and waist can handle! So I sit here, 3am waiting for the stupid Yelp app to download as I couldn't find a "contact us" link on the sonic page after my son has thrown up all over my bed and my wife for a third F-ing time tonight and I myself have enjoyed hugging the toilet twice. We thought it'd be a great idea to try sonic, as I've never had anything but a shake, I agreed. The food tasted like straw, bland and incredibly plain let alone everyone's upset stomach that followed and the lack of blankets and sheets to remake a bed in the middle of the night, I'm so thankful it's warm. I can happily say I will NEVER be eating at a Sonic ever again I'd rather lick a hobo, bloody appalling. ONTOP of this I'm so glad I have family visiting from Australia, here to experience American fast food and diners who also get to suffer through this bout of stomach discomfort. Worst place to ever go to! I waited over 30 damn minutes for an order of ONE slush! I clicked the button when it was 20mins of waiting & said, "I've been waiting for 20mins now and haven't received my order of ONE slush." Instead of just getting me my order, the rude worker repeated my order then made an excuse saying "Oh she didn't see anyone there when she came out." So my big WHITE car magically disappeared when she came out? Even though I was parked there the whole time with only THREE other cars. She rudely said "we'll get it right out to you." and quickly hung up before I could say anything. So I decided to wait for another 10mins cuz it's not that hard to make ONE damn slush. Apparently the workers at the Atwater are not only blind, but rude and slow as hell. I ordered at 10:28, pressed and asked for my order at 10:48 & by 10:58 still had nothing so I left cuz lazy ppl like tht don't deserve to get paid. I would have never waited that long if the order was for myself but it "was" supposed to be for my mother, but my mom doesn't need to be drinking shit made by lazy ass workers! read more

This was possibly the worst experiance I have ever had at any resturant. First, let me say that in my early 20's I managed a Subway and a Dairy Queen and would have never tolerated the level of service I recieved at the Atwater Sonic. First, I ordered. One Coney Chili Dog, mozzerlla sitcks and a cherry limeaide. When the girl repeated my order back she incorrectly stated tater tots. I corrected her and she said ok. When my food arrived, I did not have mozzerella sticks or tater tots. There was a banana. I spoke to my server and while she was correcting that mistake I opened my hot dog and there was a long black hair in it. I requested to speak with the manager. She came out looking like she was irritated to be bothered with a customer and was extremly rude. She stated to me that the cooks were both men, with short hair so the hair couldn't be theirs. It's almost as if she acted like it was mine. The hair was thick, long and black. I have blondish brown hair. After giving me back my money I watched her go inside and continue mopping the floor. This resturant closes at 11 pm. It was 9 pm. The enitre visable floor was covered in soapy water that the employees were walking through. I watched her throw water on the floor in large amounts. That is a fall hazard if I have ever seen one. The employees do not wear hair nets or gloves. I will be contacting our county health department Monday morning to see if there is a California law regarding hair nets and gloves. If there is, this store is in violation. If there isn't, it is still unsanitary. I will be reporting the hair and floors to the county health department, as well as contacting OSHA regarding the floors. I took my business to a different returant down the road where their employees were wearing gloves and hairnets. I was also told by them that they are required to do so by the State. I will not be returning to this resturant ever and am completely disgusted by the level of customer service and disregard for health and safety. Sadly, while my experiances at this particular Sonic are not usually this bad, they are almost always not good. My orders are typically incorrect, unless I only order a drink. Apparently, its not that difficult to ruin a drink or get it incorrect. read more
