Originally moving to LA from Texas over 4 years ago, it's felt like ages since I've seen a Sonic Drive-In. Fortunately we spotted one by chance on our way to Palm Springs and decided to rekindle my flame with a beloved fast food chain. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and were surprised at how empty this location was. It must have been the chilly weather but I was thrilled since it meant placing our order would be much quicker. I decided to order a large cheesy tater tots and 2 corn dogs. Our order arrived in under 10 minutes and I was pleased at how delicious our meal was, at the time. Unfortunately it was much greasier than I remembered. I felt sick 30 minutes later and spent the rest of the afternoon and evening with an upset stomach. Even the next morning I was burping up the taste of grease. Ugh! I have fond memories of Sonic over the years but my cravings has come to an end and I don't think I'll be back for a few years. My partner wasn't impressed with his meal at all and said he'd never like to go back, which sucks because I wanted him to experience carhop waiters and their super cool roller skates. I questioned coming to this location because all the one star reviews but after reading them they were mostly complaining about wait times and silly things like "not enough ranch". So we called the Sonic In Cathedral City, California to see if they were open. They said that they closed at 10:00pm. I said, "10:00pm?" The employee said, "yes." We pulled into the drive thru at 9:40. The attendant on the speaker said, "we're closed" very abrasively and when we said, "wait can we talk?" We were completely ignored. We asked a few times through the speaker box and there was no response. Then we called the number to the store three times and the phone was picked up and hung up all three times. I understand employees wanting to get out early, but is this how Sonic wants their customers treated? We had some very excited kids looking to get some appetizers and desserts because we have been home all day and they were crushed. Luckily, there was a McDonalds close by and other options next time we take a family outing. I'm upset and will be sharing this experience on social media and with anyone who asks about the Sonic in Cathedral City. It is shameful that the employees at this Sonic treat customers this way and we will think twice before returning. My friend and I decided to go to Sonic during this COVID 19 time. We went through the drive in lane. We placed our order, While sitting in line behind other cars we saw an employee come outside and bring a customer an order without any gloves on or face mask. We stayed in line and when we got to the window the person who started to hand us our food had no gloves or mask. When we asked why she did not have a mask on she responded that they had them but were not using them. My friend then asked for our $ back and left without our food. Was very excited to come to this sonic tonight. Saw a promotion on the sonic website saying mad balls were now available. Drive 40 mins to get there and when we arrived an employee says he has not heard of them yet but that he would check in the back. He was super nice and really went above and beyond for us and we appreciated that. He said they had the toys but that usually they have to sell their old toys before they can sell the new ones. He said the decision to sell them was ultimately up to the general manager but that she was not available until Monday because she was celebrating her birthday weekend. He decided to go even more above and beyond for us and text his general manager and he got an answer back from her and she said that it would be perfectly fine to sell them to us. We were very excited and gave him our credit card for the transaction. Although he did not come back out and instead we were greeted by the manager "Anthony". he said he just got off the phone with his general manger and she said that we can not buy the toys. When in fact the other employee had stated that she said yes. We were upset and felt like he was lying and showed him the promotion online that stated they were available now. He then very rudely said to us "I'm also a manger here and we can't sell those toys and I don't know why you are getting so upset over these toys this conversation is over" and he walked back inside and closed the door on us. I thought it was extremely rude and very unprofessional of him to have treated us that way and insult us about wanting to buy these toys. I really hope this manager either changes his attitude or learns how to talk to people properly because he is definitely not manager material. read more

First time at Sonic Drive-In. Pulled into one of the stations, hit the button to begin the order and nothing happened. We were waiting a while because we thought maybe the speaker was broke. I called it in that we were waiting at the stall and they apologized because they were short-staffed. They gave us 2 free hot fudge sundaes for the wait. The burger and hot dogs were really good for the price but it was the customer service that means a lot. Friends and I pulled up on a Thursday afternoon to one of the order signs, never been to a Sonics, and opened our windows and the sauna like heat was nasty (108 degrees that day!) so we decided to do the drive through and not have the Sonic drive in experience. We heard they had tons of drinks to choose from and the order signs didn't reflect that. We just ordered the regular sodas and later saw in tiny text their specialty drinks, so we added them onto our order. We also tried their tater tots since it was unique to them. We ordered a chicken sandwich a hotdog and a couple of cheese burgers. Total was about $35, cheap! Food was good but nothing special but definitely better than McDonald's! I stopped by Sonic this evening to pick up ice cream sundaes. While waiting at the window for the sundaes I could see the hot mess unfolding inside: I saw a worker filling a waffle cone. What caught my eye was the fact that she was not wearing gloves or at a bare minimum using a napkin as a buffer between her hand and the cone. I found it to be unhygienic but things went from unhygienic to out and out nasty real quick. As she turned from the machine to place the cone with the order she appeared to lick the cone. I did a double take as I watched her lick ice cream off of her hand not once but twice as she was holding someone's order. She then placed the cone with the order, licked her hand twice more and grabbed another waffle cone and started filling another waffle cone for an order. She did not wash her hands, wipe them with a paper towel, hand sanitizer or any attempt to clean them before handling someone else's food. I watched the person who filled my order and thankfully she followed hygienic standards. I will not be patronizing this establishment ever again. I wish Yelp would add a flashing hazard sign as an option for reviews instead of forcing me to give this location a single star. I must say I'm extremely disappointed with the customer service here we ordered over 100$ worth of food and they messed up our order about 3 times only gave us 2 ranch for 6 combos the manager lady with the black shirt was so rude I'm a manager at a restaurant myself and the way she came at me and my family was super rude we came for the experience were here on vacation and wanted to treat the kids to a nice last dinner in the city the food when it was done correctly was amazing the only nice one was Jackie she had so much patience with us I don't usually complain but when I'm spending that amount of money on fast food i at least expect it to come out correct thank you Jackie for your service and for keeping that smile on your face the entire time read more
