I no longer see the hype of a Sonic, now that San Diego has it's very own. The three plus hour drive north, always seemed worth it at the time, but now I don't even feel the need to drive to Santee to pick up a burger. Mainly because I don't eat them. Anyway, This Sonic, was right at the exit where we stayed this past weekend, so it made for convenient food stops to and from Coachella. The one time we came i got cheese sticks, tots and Eric got the french toast sticks. Everything was good except for the tots, which were supposed to be covered in cheese, but really didn't have much on them. Got the Super Sonic size, or whatever it's called, and I was disappointed that I paid that much, for something seemingly small. This is the first Sonic I ever went to. Been here like 3 times. Maybe because it's newer? I thought it was alright in a fast food kinda way. Plus, all 3 times it was during Happy Hour, 2-4pm all drinks 1/2 price. I visited this place on Feb 1. It was a nice night so I decided to eat outside, so I went to the courtyard and tried to order off of the board. Nope. "System Temporarily Unavailable" So I went to the next one that was flashing no error codes or anything, nope, no answer. A girl skated by and said that one of the employees who took the orders was "on break" Nice, especially considering it was 5:45 P.M. the dinner hour. I live just around the corner, so I really want to like this place, but it's just not going to happen. Kind of nuts to eat here in the summertime. With no indoor seating it's either kill your car or weather the heat. The dogs, burgers, and drinks I've had so far are pretty average, the variety is nice and the outside eating area would be much more enjoyable in better weather. They also have a "happy hour" on their drinks which makes them half price but it's never been clear from their signage when exactly that happens. read more

Ok I come here because my kids love the slushes, every single time we come it is a 30 min wait. The last 4 times have been the same. We have tried different times of the day, even though they are never packed which would be more understandable. This is the last time, we will give it a try. To top it off the employees always seem miserable and are never apologetic. Attitude goes a long way so they should be nice and it might make customers a bit more understanding. It took 10 mins tonight for my order to be taken and i heard another customer cancel her order because they took to long. My husband and I live in south Palm Desert, so it's quite a drive out to sonic for us, but we happily make the drive every so often because we love the food. Usually the service is great, but last night, I don't know what the heck happened. I'm not sure if it's a lack of caring for their own job, or not giving a shit about the customer, but last night was the worst Sonic experience we've ever had. Simple order, a large number two with a lemonade, a small tater tot, and another double cheeseburger, only with grilled onions. So one has regular onions, the other, we wanted grilled onions. Not that complicated I would think, but both burgers come out with regular onion. Frustrating, but no biggie, mistakes happen. So he waves down one of the girls working there, and he lets her know he wanted grilled onions, and that the ones he had received were uncooked. She did not like this, it was written all over her face. Whatever, still not the biggest deal, but it still was a negative experience. A few minutes later, she comes out with a fresh burger, and the onions are still raw! Grilled onions and uncooked onions are very different in taste and texture, and being that my husband is a cook, and I'm a restaurant manager, we know the difference in cooked vs uncooked onions. Was it really that big of a deal to throw some onions on the flat top for a few minutes?! You would have been better popping them in the microwave - at least they could've been passed as cooked. At this point my husband just wanted to eat and go home, so he scraped off all the uncooked onions, and dealt with it. After that, we decided to order a blast and shake to go. We had been sitting outside on the patio area, that's where we ordered the food, and now that it was time for dessert, we all of a sudden couldn't order from there, we had to go through the drive through. I understand there are rules, but she was so rude about it. Instead of saying something along the lines of, "I apologize, but the patio is closed down, but we can still help you through the drive through," it went more like, "the patio's closed, go through the drive through." At this point we're over the attitude and ready to end this negative experience. We get our shake and blast, go home and are ready to enjoy them, and the blast is only half stirred - half way down, I reached all vanilla soft serve, not one ounce of ingredients that I had ordered in the blast were beyond the half-way point. And considering there was an upcharge for the extra ingredients, I definitely got ripped off. We've never had this problem here before, I don't know if it was a fluke, a new staff, an off night, or what, but it was so disappointing. The attitude is really what got me angry, over anything else. Shit happens, I get it, restaurant life takes a toll on you, but it's a job, and part of the job description is coming in not acting like you hate your life. I really don't know what the issue was yesterday, but it was a horrible experience, and while this won't be our last time to Sonic, I doubt we'll come back to this Sonic. read more

Customer service tonight was sub par. I was in drive thru line, 10:50. The guy in front of me took forever to order! Then came my turn the clock just turned 11pm, only us 2 in line, n the drive thru teller says, were closed. I said, "all I wanted were 2 drinks." N she's like we're closed. So it doesn't matter that I was waiting in the service line for 10 min PRIOR to it turning 11 n we were the only 2 customers. I get that they close at 11, but I was there before closing n still should have gotten served. Gas wasted sitting in drive thru n no service even though I was in line before closing. Always been wanting to come to a Sonic restaurant chain and try it out, after seeing so many popular commercials about it. Unfortunately there is none near where I live, so I was in Palm springs for this labor day weekend and we decided to stop and eat here before we continued back on our long drive home to LA. Such a cute, retro feel of a place! The menu has a lot of random items! From boneless wings, to chili hot-dogs, burgers, frozen slushies, and random sampler plates. Driving up, you park on one of the designated parking spots, and every spot has a drive-in menu posted to order. Either you choose to sit in the car or sit outside, and the workers inside bring your food to you on roller skates. Very cute! The food is really good! They are well known for their desserts but I think everything is pretty good, besides it being random choices. I ordered the Asian Chili Boneless Wings, and they were very well cooked to a crisp and the sauce was delicious. I also ordered a combo of fries, and the Asiago Crispy chicken burger. The burger bread was a different style of bread that was really delicious, and the burger itself really hit the spot. I also ordered a frozen slushie of strawberry lemonade, and it was super amazing! I am a slushie fan and it brings be right back to my youth where we would stop and get slush puppies on our way home from school. The slushies are sugary goodness - no nutritional value at all.
