I wish I could give this place more stars because I love this old fashion style of grub. The drinks are the selling point for me, there are so many options and their slushes remind me of raspas (Spanish drinks that are very similar to snow cones just more of a drink). Though I've tried several combinations I always go back to the classic blue powerade slush. In regards to the staff I could say I've had mixed experiences. There were instances where they couldn't get it right and other times they were friendly and gave great recommendations. It's tough to say good or bad one way or another so I'd just have to say inconsistent. If you are in doubt you've got to stop in at least for one of their drinks. read more

nom.nom.nom.nom I heart tots! I hadn't had Sonic in a few years, and I noticed there was one not too far from my house sooooo I had a late night craving and caved. I had the #2 which is a double cheeseburger, tots, and a drink. I added extra pickles and opted for one of the limeades. The line was a little long, but our food was made fresh to order. Good stuff. FINALLY! A Sonic that I don't have to drive for an hour to get to! Ever since the first time I had Sonic when I was a student at the University of Illinois, I have been obsessed with them. Nothing beats a cherry limade on a hot day. Last night, my wife and I decided to go try out the new Sonic in Franklin Park and we were so happy with the results. I ordered delivery from here and 2 hours later it was delivered. My driver sat there for over 20 minutes waiting on them. I tracked the driver in the app so I know it's all on Sonic! Plus the driver didn't cook this nasty food they did! When it arrived the popcorn chicken was hard as little rocks, chili dog hardly had any chili and cheese on it. Bun was soggy and all you could taste was the freaking relish! Fries were cold and nasty and hamburgers just like everything was cold and the buns were hard! The ONLY thing that was half decent was the soft drink! Everything tasted like it had been sitting awhile but according to the app they didn't start cooking it until the driver arrived so something is very wrong at this restaurant! Eh Sonic lives up to the hype with the cherry limeaid. The tots are feh, and the burgers strangely remind me of McDonalds. HOWEVER they do have Chedder Peppers, which I order every time I swing by for some delicious drink. If you are semi lactose intolerant DO NOT buy any ice cream product here. I won't get into many details, lets just say puking up melted "ice cream" in a Sonic cup while driving to Ikea is not what you want to be doing on your Saturday afternoon off. I'm just saying. This place is NOT all that and NOT what my hungry tummy expected at ALL. Major disappointment. Especially after seeing all those damn commercials and discovering one in the Chicago area. Maybe I was too hungry and got the wrong thing? I dunno, but my chicken texas toast sandwich was not toasty or garlic bready at all.....isn't that supp to be the point?? The fires were okkkkkk, but I prefer the tots. But that could be because I hardly get tots...and the fries were just ok. I also tried the chilli cheese dog - it was good but no wow factor. Okay, I'm actually doing this... I'm writing a review for a chain fast food place, and yes, I gave it four stars (and I'm NOT drunk). So first of all, it's a drive in, which means they have no walk-in counter for ordering. So you either drive up to one of the stations and place your order, and they bring it to your car, or you do the drive through like I do. They have two tables in their patio area with intercoms for ordering as well, so if you're going with a group, that's the way to go. Food-wise (and that's what's really important, right?) they seem to do the burger/hot dog thing mostly, and a pretty good chicken sandwich (so I was told). Myself, I'm a born-and-raised Chicagoan, so I eat my hot dogs one of two ways; Chicago style, or coney style. I had the foot-long coney (chili and cheese) and had them put chopped onion on it. I wish they had sauerkraut, that would have been the bomb, but it was still pretty good. I got onion rings with it, and they were the envy of my coworkers. So, speaking of... I placed a very complicated order for 8 people, at a drive through no less, for various burger/hot dog/chicken sandwich options, and they got it 100% right. They were very thorough as I placed my order, and they only missed one thing which I corrected as they read my order back, and yes, they did get the correction right. Like I said, my very complicated order was filled with total accuracy. And food for 8 people? $38! No, we didn't get drinks (I have a feeling their shakes are good, I plan on trying one next time) but still, that beats the $70 I spent on mediocre wings at Hooters the next day for five of us, hands down. And the food was much better. So yeah, I'll be back. I'm still feeling out the eateries near the new building my company just moved into, and I have a feeling that Sonic will be at least a once a week stop for me. read more

Long wait but since carhopper apologized gave it a star anyway. Over filled cup looked like it was a spilled shake. When we asked the carhop if she could provide us with another cup so we can double it up and not get our hands sticky, she seemed aggravated. Understandable. Maybe over worked but we didn't deserve that. Other milkshake was melting. Burgers were not hot and bread was soggy. Assume they sat on the counter for a bit. Fries and tots were good but, why was the container only filled halfway? Hey... It helps me but it should be my choice. I give it two stars, simply because I was able to finish my meal and not throw up. Will not go out of my way to visit in the future. read more

Lady doing the drive thru window kept saying "okay" after every item and then nothing changed. Left off several items although I received confirmation of the items thru the window. Their food is OK, but their customer service need a big improvement! It was late at night and my kids wanted some slushes so we came here. The slushes were good, but it took us forever to get it! It's shouldn't take 20 minutes to make a few slushes and an ice cream cone! It seems like everyone else was getting their orders quicker than us. You know I had to wonder if we were the wrong skin color at the time. I was thinking about leaving and forgetting the whole thing, but my kids begged me not to leave. So, I guess a lot of people know my wife since she's one of the more popular Yelpers who isn't a real-life anime character (you know who I'm talking about). Well, this is me, I'm going to beat my own path, make a name for myself, set out on my own, etc. etc. So this weekend my wife was doing lady things in Milwaukee with lady people so I was on my own, free to act like the bachelor I once was. I decided I hadn't had Sonic in awhile. I have fond memories of interning in Indianapolis for a semester and having one around the corner and then missing them like crazy upon returning to Chicago. A few opened in South Bend, and I've been there once or twice with my best friend/world domination co-conspirator, but it's been at least a year. Oh, I was not disappointed. In fact, some things were better than I recall. I ordered the Chicken Toaster Club, which was basically a crispy chicken breast with cheese and bacon on a sort of Texas toast like product. Surprisingly, it was excellent. Probably as good as you could get from a lot of full-service chain restaurants. Just a great flavor all around. And while the "toast' was a little... flimsy, it still tasted good. The tots are always great, one of the better potato-based fast food side dishes around and of course the crazy drink combinations are what set Sonic apart. I got an orange Coke, which while tasting great was loaded to the brim with ice so I got about three good strawfuls of it before it was gone. The service was friendly enough, but it seemed a tiny bit flaky. I'm not sure if they just had trouble hearing me from the little call-box thing or really had no clue what I was asking for, but they seemed really confused by my request for an orange Coke. They must have figured I was from the south and used "Coke" to mean any kind of pop and was asking for an orange soda, which they strangely don't have. I had to explicitly spell out I just wanted a Coke with orange syrup in it, and then they had no problem fulfilling the order. So yeah, it's fast food, not haute cuisine, but it's better quality, the drinks are to die for, and the service is fast. So there you have it, my first review. read more

Service here is rather inconsistent. I've had 20 minute waits in the drive in, but then only waited 3 min in the drive in. While I know skates are optional for the car hops, this is the first sonic I've been to that no one is wearing skates. I wish the garbage cans were more accessible for drivers - either you're flexible enough to reach out your passenger window, or you must exit the car to toss your garbage. I love the Tots, breakfast food, and flavored teas here. read more

Trying to order at this place is a headache...or at least it will give you one. Had a groupon that I needed to use at it was expiring that day. I am not a fan of eating in the car so we ordered at the walk up teller. I think it took about 5 attempts to get our order through correctly. I'm not sure if they can't hear because of the traffic on Grand/Mannheim or they just can't hear. Whatever the reason is, it was annoying. "Hi, Welcome to Sonic, can I have your name for your order?" "Susan" "Hello...can I please have your name for your order?" "Susan!!" (louder this time) "Hi...can I please have your name?" ....are you effing kidding me???? All faith in ordering was lost when they can't even hear my name. We had to repeat our order about 3 times AND they still goofed up. When we were ordering a guy would ask us a question first, then a girl would chime in...then the guy would ask another question...wtf is taking the order here? 2 different people or someone with an identity crisis? We used a groupon voucher...the guy says we owe $.39 after the groupon but the girl chimed in and said we didn't owe anything...good grief. Despite the ordering snafu, the food was pretty decent. I'm trying to cut out all types of crap/fast food and surprisingly, I didn't feel like a guilty cow after eating here. Our groupon got us 2 combos + one add on AND a banana split. I could have done without the banana split....it was good but you just look like a pig when you are eating your meal with an ice cream treat waiting in the wings. Plus, they brought it out with the rest of our food so it was pretty melty by the time we got to it. I ordered a Dr. Pepper and they brought out 2 Hi-C drinks...they did bring me a Dr. Pepper though and let us keep the extra Hi-C. Why waste my time writing about my experience at Sonic? Well after leaving the drive thru on Monday August 31st at 8:02pm I was given a waffle cone that was OBVIOUSLY 3/4 full. The poor cashier even did a double take! She handed it over seeing that the ice cream can't even be seen past the edge of the cone. There's literally WAY more cone than ice cream! We ask her why it's not filled and the cashier asks her co-workers and was answered with blank faces. No one wants to answer a reasonable question, an older woman and a guy with glasses basically have nothing to say, till he finally raises his voice after the cashier asks if he even saw the cone. Without lifting his head he says, "Yeah I saw it, it's full." The cashier shrugs and says, "I'm sorry he's the manager." All I wanted to know was if this is Sonics new thing, otherwise I'd want to know what the charge is to get a 'full' cone. I don't blame the cashier, this manager guy, who was giving the BEST customer service he could muster, is who I give this review to. My warning to future patrons is don't debate this guy if your glass is half full OR empty. It's always full to him. read more

Foods good but this location should be a sit down rather than a drive thru. Always takes me 10 minutes at the window to get my order and they always stump you on concrete toppings. The icing on the cake is their drive thru speaker box is broken and they can't hear your order and you can't here their questions. I've been to Sonic in Champaign, IL and I have to say this Sonic is the only one I will ever go to. In summer, it gets pretty crowded and popular, wait times a bit more than expected, but I still get good service. Plus who can complain about half priced shakes after 8 pm? This is the closest location to where I live so its about 6 miles away, its worth the drive. Sonic also makes their dessert with REAL ice cream. What a difference compared to other fast-food chains who claim their ice cream is real. It does not compare! read more

If giving 0 stars was an option that's what I would give it. I drove nearly an hour to get there only to get my order completely f'd up. Ordered 4 Jr Cheese burgers and got 4 Cheeseburgers instead. Did not want all of the extra ingredients, hence why I ordered the Jr Cheese Burgers. The 1 star is generous simply because the 2 Slushes I got were the only good things about my order. The person that took my order through the drive thru was not at all interested in speaking and seemed like she just wanted to get us out of there as quickly as possible. I remember coming to a Sonic in Texas and thought they were great. I finally had a chance to go here yesterday hoping it would be a similar experience. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Ordered Sonic double burger(or something like that, number 3 I believe). The buns were partially cold, whereas the meat was done right and good. I had ordered the fries with cheese, but fries had no taste to them, and cheese didn't help. I'll go back and try the tots which is what I had in my previous experience. Drinks were good and cold(had a Coke). And I ordered a Oreo shake. That was what gives this place that extra star. It looked and tasted great. Overall not bad, but not great either. Still not ruling them out, but if next visit is like this one, I won't come to this one anymore and I'll have to drive farther to try the next Sonic. read more
