    German pancake with strawberries
    Juli K.

My son and I were in Chicago for a college visit and needed breakfast. I wanted him to experience The Original and I think I created a fan. We had no wait on a rainy Saturday morning in August... but a rush followed us in. I was a little confused by the service. It seemed like there were 5 different people helping us. We had coffee and juice. My son ordered the apple pancake, and I had the German pancake with strawberries. We knew these choices would take a little longer to prepare. The portions are ENORMOUS. The prices are maybe a little high, but the food was worth it.

    Gluten free "French toast"

I think this is owned by different people than the other Chicagoland locations. The food is just ok and the parking lot is a nightmare. Gluten free "French toast" was basically a waffle cooked with eggs? Very weird.

This pancake house is so very yummy! They make their own whipped cream that tastes so good! The strawberry waffle comes with strawberry syrup and fresh whipped cream. I always order an additional side of their whopped cream since it is spectacular. Their pancakes are also very good.

If you're in the mood for breakfast/brunch then this is the place you want to be. Everything I ordered was a 10/10. There was a wait period to be seated but it's definitely worth the wait! The design of the restaurant is simple but let's be honest you're not there for the views. The food here is what's most important.

My wife and I have come here a couple of times, due to its location. We love coming to this area for lunch or dinner, but every once and a while we come here for breakfast. This location gets pretty busy during weekends and holidays. This morning, there were quite busy. We waited approx 10 mins for a table, not too bad. Their food was good, but the service was great. The young lady waiting on us was very attentive. The only thing I wish they would do, was add a combo meal with eggs, bacon, pancakes and hash browns. Other than that, We will be back.

Loved the feel of walking into this "House" of pancake. Service seemed to be coordinated and mindful at all times, perhaps not so much attention paid to the ladies room, my girlfriend said it was disgusting. We ordered blueberry pancakes and the teddy o'Brian which is an open face burger topped with green peppers, onion, pimentos and an egg.

Friendly staff; basic breakfast food. Very crowded on the weekends so plan ahead if you are going on a Saturday or Sunday.

I highly recommend the tuna croissant sandwich. It was fresh, delicious, and one of my favorite items on the menu. The waffles are also very good, especially when they're served fresh and hot. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the crepes. They were a little undercooked for my taste, so the texture wasn't quite right. Other than that, the café has a pleasant atmosphere with comfortable seating, making it a nice spot to meet friends or take a break.

I ordered the Cafe Special, a type of crepe loaded with cream and adorned by various fruits and Nutella. It was fairly pricy but delicious all the same. If you like sweet, this menu offering will do the trick. For the cost, I could've used a bit more food (you only receive a single crepe with your order). The presentation of my food was appealing. However, the server placed the crepe atop a piece of tissue paper on the plate. While eating, this tissue paper was a distraction and I ended up cutting through it multiple times. Crepe Cafe isn't a standalone restaurant but rather a kiosk in the mall (just look for the scale-accurate red whales hovering from above if you're lost). While I can't expect extraordinary ambiance owing to this place's location, cleanliness should be a given. One of the tables I wanted to sit at was visibly dirty. A different high-top had a pair of gloves (without a human owner) atop it. Overall, Crepe Cafe was a nice (if unexpected) treat to find. The price could just be a little lower and the tables a little cleaner.

So...not sure the food is good. I just happen to think the attitude is a little worse. Came with a group and someone in our party ordered the French Onion Soup and then a Croque Monsieur. No one else in our group ordered a starter. What's weird is for some reason they decided to course the soup with everyone's mains. Normal restaurants, including like....your local suburban Chile's, know not to do that but this place thought that was normal. So already, my friend is a course behind everyone because they didn't serve his starter first. What's worse is when he finishes his soup...he doesn't get his main. We actually FINISH our mains and he still hasn't gotten his. He makes a comment VERY NICELY to our waitress like hey! Just wanted to check on my meal! She responds, "all our meals are timed perfectly." What!! My buddy goes, "Okay...I've just been waiting for 15/20 minutes so I think I'm ready for my sandwich." She responds, "okay....let me alert the kitchen." Wait? You didn't even tell them he needed his meal?? We wait another 15 minutes. We flag the waitress again and ask where his meal is and she responds "everything is made to order so the kitchen needs some time." Okay. This is a Croque Monsieur. Are you....rising bread right now? What is happening? So I get frustrated and jump into this and say, "Ya but we've been waiting over 30 minutes for his main. We've all finished so now you're asking my friend to eat alone." She responds, "everything is served hot so what is the problem??" !! I get annoyed because up until this moment, we've been pretty nice. But this waitress not acknowledging any issue or trying to make it better and talking back to us like this is weird. So I just say, "Bring a manager over." Well...it didn't matter. This lady learned her attitude from somewhere and it was probably from the manager. The manager immediately is on the offense like, "you ordered a soup and we wanted you to have the soup hot. And we want your next meal to be hot. We make everything fresh and we clean our dishes in between." The heck? All we want is for my friend to be able to eat his main. So I say, now rudely, "just bring the food. We have waited 30 minutes now. Everyone is done with their meal. If you haven't made it, cancel the order and we'll go somewhere else." She responds, "we usually serve the starter first. If you didn't like that, then don't order a starter." SERIOUSLY!? What is happening!? I think about telling her that USUALLY even if only 1 person has ordered a starter, that gets served first before EVERYONE gets their mains TOGETHER. Instead I say, "listen, cancel the order or give us the food but we aren't waiting any longer." And she goes, "we can't cancel it. The kitchen has been working on it." So I say "this better be home baked bread because they've been working on it for 45 minutes by now." IT STILL takes another 5 minutes to get this meal. It is cold. It is an average Croque Monsieur. And they probably all spit in it. At the very end, the waitress comes over and says, "I see what you mean and there were coursing issues but we take pride in our food and we weren't going to degrade that so we could serve you faster." This place literally lives up to a Parisian stereotype, I guess.
