I stopped at SONIC Hillsboro Thursday evening around 8 PM because I was feeling lightheaded and needed a quick drink. I expected a simple $5 purchase. Instead, I spent over 22 minutes in the drive-through. During that time, I saw three cars leave because of the wait. When I finally reached the speaker, the employee taking orders repeatedly disappeared and I had to repeat my order for a Peach Cream Slush multiple times. She kept changing what she thought I ordered and eventually told me they did not make it. When I asked to speak to a manager, I was left waiting again. The General Manager, Kelsey, came out and explained the speaker was broken. My concern was not that equipment breaks -- that happens. My concern was that customers were given no communication, no instructions, and no alternative process. There were no signs telling customers to use another method. Instead of apologizing and trying to solve the issue, the situation escalated. After waiting more than 20 minutes, I was told I would not be served and was refused service. I have never experienced that from a business before. The store itself also appeared neglected -- dirty windows, insects around the building, taped-up signs, and an overall chaotic appearance. I understand fast food is not a luxury experience, but basic courtesy, communication, and professionalism should still exist. Management should solve problems, not make customers feel unwelcome. I hope corporate reviews this location because this was far below the standard customers should expect. read more

Love me some sonic. My sister brought us here before a baseball game. 1 of us had a hot dog and the rest had burgers. My Wife had tater tots with hers and I had fries. I had a double cheese burger. We wanted to sit outside. We ordered and waited. Our order came out fairly fast. Everything was awesome. I wished I had gotten the triple burger after I devoured my burger like a shark. So delicious. My wife and I were famished from a 10th or maybe 20th day of packing and moving to our new house. It was quite late and this place was right by our hotel so I figured what the heck. After the first few bites of their "smash burger" I realized that my wife's choice of Panda Express would have been a better move. Over the years this place has constantly and consistently been delicious and now that I've tried the smash burger. I have to post a review. The bun is very soft, warm and delicious. The meat cooked perfectly. This Smashburger was indeed very very tasty along with their crispy fries and a nice cherry limeade. It really hit the spot. This picture doesn't do it any justice, but you can see from where I was holding this smash burger that the bun was so soft. It just sunk where my thumb was holding onto it very juicy tender and delicious. They're always busy, which one would assume is a good sign, but I've learned that this means you waste your time for an awkward interaction at the window and an incorrect or unsatisfactory bag of food. Drinks are always good, can't say I've had one I didn't like. I stick to lemonades/Limeades and energy drink mixes. They're all very sweet, but that's to be expected and I like it. If you don't enjoy syrupy and sweet, don't get the iced drinks here. I saw the frito burrito and was so stoked! How could you go wrong with Fritos and chili cheese in a tortilla? Well they found a way.... Hardly anything inside the burrito itself, but the chili to chip ratio was a joke and the chips were chewy. This could from the heat of the chili, not sure, but either way, not enjoyable at all. I almost always get their coney dog, and it never disappoints, but this time it did. Again, there was like no Chili on it... which is the whole point. So I don't know if they were running low on chili or what... but both items with it were lacking. Their parking lot is clean, the tables usually have something on them but that's rude patrons, not their fault. They have a trash can as you exit the drive thru and it's almost always filled to the brim and spilling out. I wish they'd take care of it more often. It's a nice idea so you don't have straw wrappers in your car, but kind of gross driving by and rolling over peoples food and other car trash they dump there. read more

I came to pick up a customer order, which included three extra-large drinks. The order was brought out to me without a drink carrier, no straws, and the food bag was not sealed. Concerned about the lack of required items and proper packaging, I went to the drive-thru window to ask for straws. At that point, the General Manager (GM) on shift began yelling at me, saying I shouldn't be at the window due to liability issues. I understand and respect store policies, but the way she addressed me was aggressive, unprofessional, and completely disrespectful. She could have explained the policy calmly, but instead, she shouted that she's "tired of Uber drivers" and that we "demand too much." She even told me to never come back to that store again, and threatened to report me to Uber. I was shocked, as all I did was ask for straws that should have been included in the first place. Delivery drivers like myself are partners in your business -- we help Sonic reach customers quickly and efficiently. We deserve to be treated with basic respect and professionalism. I am not her employee or her child, and being yelled at over a simple request is unacceptable. Also, for food safety and customer trust, food bags should be sealed, and drinks should be properly packaged with lids and carriers. We should not have to argue or feel humiliated for ensuring orders are secure and complete. read more

Food is amazing. I never leave reviews for places, but the fries crispy, the burger is juicy and saucy. The service is quick, and the staff is very friendly. Shout out to Jack for serving us and being very patient about split payments, and very attentive. He made sure to listen to our order perfectly and was super kind!! This is a fast food restaurant where everyone orders from their car or through the drive-through. There is no option to sit inside the restaurant, I guess. The speaker is very loud which is great for people who have trouble hearing. They got my order right on the screen, but some items were missing in my bag. Thankfully I got them to correct the issue with no problem. The food tasted good. The groovy fries are just crinkle cut fries, but I like how they're crunchy on the outside but soft in the inside, and full of salty flavor. The pickle fries are good too. The burgers need to have better pickle distribution though. I had two pickles hanging out the side, one inside, and none on the rest of the burger. The shakes are large, and I like that mine came with a cherry on top. read more

As a side note, I love sonic as a general rule. This review is regarding the new "smash burger" menu item. I usually love smash burgers, so I thought I would give theirs a try. It was a slimy, gooey mess, all jumbled up in a corner of the serving box. My grandson and I stopped in for a snack. The snacks and beverages were good, but the highlight of the visit was that the general manager, a very nice young lady, saved me hundreds of dollars. I was in a rental car, much larger than my own car and I was having trouble backing out between the ordering boards. Ordered online - one sonic cheeseburger, a coney hot dog, plus drink and pickle fries (had to try this). Hubbie arrived: was told order was never received, but they eventually completed the order. Unfortunately, I got a hamburger that must of been hanging out on the back of the grill all day, maybe two days. Tough, dry, disgusting. All the mayo in the world could not save this meal. I decided to stop off here to try out the new Strawberry Shortcake Slush today. The line of cars moved quickly and the service was very friendly. Besides the Slush I got a pretzel stick. So today was/is my birthday. No big deal, I am just turning 50. I didn't do that much, went to work, acted polite to people who were much less than to me. Tonight I felt like treating myself so I decided to go get a Blast at the Butler Rd. Location. It was about quarter to 10 pm. There was only 2 cars ahead of me (at least that hadn't ordered yet). I thought, "This should be quick." Ummm no. I got up to the order station, and I waited 5,10,15 minutes. Not one word. At this point I get out of the car, and walk up to the side door at the pickup window. I asked the employee if anyone was working the drive through and she said they were understaffed.I went back to my car and waited. There was still zero communication. When I call someone or someone calls me and I have to put them on hold for any reason, I always check back with them every 90-120 seconds to let them know that they are important and to let them know that I haven't forgotten about them. This did not happen during this visit. It was basically 35 minutes of dead air. At this point people were actually honking at me, as if i could do anything. So I got out again and made another trip to the side door. I admit I was pissed off. Once again the girl said they were understaffed. I was tired of it, I pulled out and was ready to head over to Taco Bell ( much better service by the way) to get my wife her grub. As soon as I moved the line started moving. I whipped back around and got in line again. This time the line moved at normal speed. I wasn't sure if they would actually serve me b/c I was so "disruptive" but they did even though the employee was less then cordial. I munched on my cheese sticks on the way to Taco Bell. Sadly they were over cooked and were basically hollow. Apparently all the cheese cooked out of them. Highly disappointing especially considering the amount of time that it took to complete the transaction. I understand how understaffing has it's affect. But the problem can be resolved with some simple communication and customer service. read more

I can't express enough how disgusting this meal was. A chicken wrap, onion rings and a cherry limeade. A chili sheets coney dog, a classic dog, fries and a coke. The fries and Coke were fine. Except fries were cold. The wrap was flavorless and doughy. The hot dogs were like you'd get at a seven eleven. The onion rings tasted like the batter was a cake donut. Really sweet. There was no limeade in the Cherry limeade. Weak red flavor and soda water. I had hopes as there were a few cars ahead of us in line but this place is a hard pass. read more

Food is always very good and fresh, definitely a good amount for what you pay, the large amount of spots to orders make service nice and because of the ability to pull into a spot it makes it nice to just eat in your car. Overall very nice read more

I have been to Sonic in several locations and this one is no worse or better than others. My reason for this review, then? To warn potential patrons: DO NOT TRUST THE FOAM CUPS! I just had to wash everything I was wearing - including my SHOES - clean a bunch of areas from outside the front door to the shower, shower, AND I will have to wash my car (or take it out in the rain tomorrow). They are/were all COVERED in syrupy drink because my, frankly, not-too-tight grip PUNCHED A HOLE THE SIZE OF A BUICK through the cup and it went EVERYWHERE. Seriously, Sonic, these cups used to bear up to a not-too-strong hand transporting a cup from carport to inside... but, apparently, no longer. I will think very hard about ever buying a drink from Sonic again. PS - I would add a photo but I already totally got rid of the useless cup debris. read more

I really use to love Sonic, The route 44 sweet tea was amazing. But here as of late, they have been slipping. Either the tea is sour from sitting so long, or someone decided unsweet tea was the same as sweet. Tonight though was my deal-breaker in deciding never to go back. This evening after work I ordered 2 footlong coney dogs, 2 supersonic breakfast burritos, with NO jalapeno peppers. It even stated No Jalapenos on my receipt. I don't like peppers. and of course, an Rt 44 sweet tea. Well as Leo Gets from Lethal Weapon always says, You always get F#@*ed at the drive-through. Low and behold, so I did. Both burritos were loaded with peppers. I mean, it's not like they were going to kill me, but as I said, I don't like peppers. My order was correct but the tea....the tea was so weak :( I was so disappointed. This location is local owned and operated so they must do things their way. The staff is friendly and the ordering was quick, even with a long queue at the drive-thru. However, the hamburgers, which is the heart of what they do, have not tasted good my last two visits here. The patties were overcooked and dried out, as if they'd been left out on the grill all day. No juiciness whatsoever - more like dead gristle. I couldn't even eat half of the last burger I ordered, it tasted so bad. The fries were overcooked as well, but still edible. I've had really good Sonic burgers and french fries before, but not lately at this franchise. Hopefully the quality improves. It's frustrating to pay $7.99 for a combo, and not be able to eat the main part of your meal. I'll give some other burger joints a try next time around. read more

First, you would think with Covid happening and continuing to spread they would be using some sort of hand coverings when handing your moneys/debit card payments, I have seen every other fast food establishment use gloves while working the drive through. Considering the drive thru kid didn't even have his face mask covering over his nose, makes me question how the handling of foods back there is really up to sanitary standards. Ok fine. No gloves. So I get my order, Corn dog, large cherry limeade, and mozzarella sticks, I drive off pull my corn dog out excited do take a bite, and as I do I taste raw dough in my mouth, Not just slightly under cooked, but with batter still in the middle.
