I was told I'd love it. I was told this trip was worth it. I was told too many things that this left me in disappointment when I came. I found there idea of delivering the food to your car pretty awesome as they skate around taking and giving your orders. The food choices were great. I had chili cheese tots, sonic burger, and sonic blast oreo. I wasn't a huge fan of their sonic blast, I think a mcflurry is better since their sonic blast was just too frozen and I feel it wasn't as flavorful. The burger was okay. My favorite was the Chili Cheese Tots. I would want that every day if I could. I like the cheesy goodness with the chili on top of tots idea. Good job on that department! read more

Reasonable fast-food that comes out to you on roller skates... Went there last night, was trying to order the chicken sandwich of the day and the twit on the other end of the speaker got the order WRONG, so it was not a Crispy Chicken Club Toaster sandwich, instead it was just a crispy chicken sandwich on a roll... BORING and disappointing! ....OH and thanks for the GREEN tomatoes on my sandwich as well... GROSS!!! Tots are GREAT, the onion rings are almost too sweet, and so many different shakes that I'm glad I live close and can take advantage of the 1/2 price shakes after 8pm! We were at the store in North Babylon yesterday and desperate for somewhere to eat with our dog in the car. We parked our car in one of the slots and ordered a bunch of food. When the speaker told me that my total was just over 11 dollars I assumed that he had made some mistake. Minutes later, the carhop skated out with our order, and we figured out that my ordering a double cheeseburger also included the limeade and apple slices. The girl that works the intercom here is abrupt, easily confused and short on patience. She's quick to end your order, tell you to pay and gets annoyed when you call back to tell her what is missing from your order. For example: she gets my order wrong, I tell her the correct items, she bills me for both orders. When I try to tell her, she tells me the total and disconnects. When the car hop girl arrives, I find I was charged for a random mix of items I ordered. Sonic's customer service hotline will certainly hear about this. read more

There was a lot of hype about this place back when it opened over a year ago. I was one of the many that joined in on said hype and wanted to make the far drive to Sonic for quite some time. Well a month ago I finally checked this place out and I was pleasantly surprised. First let me say that this is not the end all fast food burger joint. I'd still put my money on Checkers (from the places I've been too). The old fast food style with carhops and menus by each parking spot brings with it a fun retro feel. Also the options are surprisingly varied; more so than your average fast food chain. I had their double cheeseburger meal, which was solid. Not great, not bad but decent. Fries were fine and the popcorn chicken my brother had were okay as well. The best part though are their drinks. Besides your standard soft drinks, they have a bunch of cool slushy combinations, and they deliver on taste. Prices are are the average fare you would find at other chains. Is it worth the drive though? Maybe once in a blue moon, but it was definitely overhyped. If I could give this place 3 1/2 stars, I would. read more

I was skeptical at first, because I've been to my fair share while traveling south on the Eastern shoreline. Most have been horrid and not what they used to be. But then comes this lil' ol' Sonic in Long Island. I made it early enough, around 11 am, on a weekend, before the crowds started generating. We pulled up to our spot, put our orders in, swiped our credit card at the machine. Three minutes later, a girl skated over with our food. After seeing all the commercials for the Sonic hot dogs, I tried the Chicago Dog ($1.99) which was great! Snappy skin, with a spicy kick from the two small mini hot peppers, a thin julienne-like slice of pickle to give it some crunch and sourness, relish, tomato and mustard all on a sesame bun. It's no Portillo's Chicago Dog, but it was pretty darn good. But what really blew me over was the new Mushroom Swiss Toaster Melt Jr. ($1.99) which is a 1/8 lb. beef patty with portobello mushrooms, mayo, grilled onions, and swiss cheese. Delicious!! And the breakfast foods were pretty solid too. Tater tots for the win!! And while we were eating, a guy came over with a huge tray of condiments and napkins. I've never seen that at a Sonic before and was pleasantly surprised at how convenient they make things here. For those that don't like eating in their car, you can also park and walk up to the counter, then grab a seat at one of the outdoor tables covered with a canopy overhead to protect you from the elements above. But if you're in a rush, they also have a drive-thru window which I found as another great alternative. Boy oh boy, I was starting to lose hope in Sonic, but this location has definitely won my loyalty back again. Yay for sonic finally being on long island. that being said, i recognize this place for what it is - a gimmick fast food place. now that the insane lines have died down (personally i waited for months to finally go), it is an enjoyable outing if i am in the area. the food is ok. nothing special, but they have a nice varied selection. plus anyplace that serves breakfast all day is a place i like. it really are their drinks that shine through. so many types and flavors to choose from. my favorite is the cream slush, any flavor. in terms of staff, they have always been friendly but nothing that i would specifically rave about. i associate sonic more with going on a road trip than your normal fast food joint, but out of all the fast food places around - this one is tops. read more

I remember when Sonic opened up. I was driving down Deer Park Avenue and I could not see what was causing so much traffic! All I did was switch lanes and I was coasting shortly afterward. I look to my left and I see so many cars waiting in line. How was this possible...but then again, its Sonic. The New Jersey phenomenon that has been a desire for New York stomachs for many years. This place has definitely gotten better, now that all the hype is over and the lines have dwindled to a manageable level. The first couple of times coming here, I felt the food was rushed, sloppy and meh. This time around, I was very pleased with the burger. I got an everything cheeseburger (mustard, mayo, ketchup, pickles, onions, lettuce, tomato) which was spot on. Yes, I feel gross just typing all that. The fries were much improved, but they were a little too salty for my taste, which made me down my Coke Zero pretty quickly. Service was fast, and the whole experience was a step up from a year ago. It's a good place to come to every so often, but definitely not once a week, or else you'll gain a solid 20 pounds. read more

...It's a Sonic. How can you not give it 5 stars? There's always a line if you show up after the break of dawn, but it's not a bad wait at all. You know the deal--cheap prices, sugar-laden drinks (Limeade with cherry flavor add-in yaaasssss) and greasy fast food items. I stick with the corn dogs, tots and chicken strip sandwich because I just need something to go with the limeade. The service is really great. Everyone seems quite polite and cheerful, which makes for a better experience. I especially appreciated how they were so quick to make us a new Wildberry & Lavender Creamery shake, since we didn't know it comes with a poundcake/shortbread topping, which my celiac girlfriend can't have. I was afraid they would just roll their eyes and flick off the topping and bring it back, but I was happy to see that they made a brand new one. My wife and I were looking for a random place to eat last night and came across Sonic. Neither of us have ever been there. We arrived at 8:30pm on a Saturday night and found no line. Someone was conveniently pulling out as we arrived. I had a double cheeseburger and my wife had the pretzel dog with an Oreo Shake. Both were really good insofar as fast food goes. My only slight complaint was that my fries were way over-salted. The person who took my order over the intercom was polite and got my order very quickly. The food was delivered in less than five minutes by the server. We would definitely go back when we get that artery clogging fast food craving again. read more

Cheeseburger reminded me of ALL AMERICAN in Massapequa, (see my review.) Comes with lettuce, tomato, tons of pickle chips and ketchup, mayo and yellow mustard. It was a decent size. They also have a double burger. Chicken sandwich was puny, in comparison. I ordered the tater tots, which were just meh. Ditto for the fries. The crispy chicken sandwich and chicken strips were just okay, according to my daughter and her friend - who LIVE on chicken nuggets/strips, etc. Wish I had realized they had diet cherry limeade, I would have ordered that instead of Diet Coke. They also have Coke Zero on the menu, which I've never seen offered before in a fast food joint. I tried a small sip of the chocolate peanut butter shake that my kid ordered, and it was so yummy! I love Sonic. Plain and simple. Maybe its because I went so long with seeing commercial after commercial on television and was never able to have it? But whatever the reason, this is my vice. I'm not the biggest fan of fast food, but Sonic doesn't leave me feeling disgusting. Its a pretty big location (Not as big as other locations I've been to out of state), with a drive through. The service is fast and all the car hops are really nice. Be warned, during the day and on the weekends, it gets really busy. I prefer to come on weekday nights if anything. Its the ONLY Sonic in NY that I know of, so of course, its going to be packed. read more

I love Sonic! Okay, so I know it's pretty much your average fast food chain. The quality of the food is really no different than a McDonald's or Wendy's, but for some reason I just love it. Maybe its the little greasy tatter tots or the fruit flavored sushee drinks, but I love this fast food chain over most of the others out there. Burgers at least seem a little bigger than ones you would get at McDonalds. And + they do have cool options that other chains don't have, like chili cheese hotdogs/fries. read more

After seeing the commercials for years and never having a location close by, I jumped at the chance to go to Sonic when I was last in Long Island. After sitting in massive traffic for a half hour, the BF and I parked the car in a neighboring parking lot and walked over to the Drive-In. The wait to order food wasn't so bad (it was cloudy and damp and freezing when I went), but the people on line were jerks. They'd make up stupid names when they ordered, so the waitresses on wheels would look like jerks saying them out loud. Oh, hardy har, you're soooo funny. I felt bad for them enough, seeing as they had to skate around in a downpour. Anyway, onto the food. It was okay, but I've had better fast food. My BF almost died from his burger, since he couldn't handle the heat from the jalapenos that topped his. Although, their limeade and tots were outrageous. The first Long Island Sonic has finally arrived and it was worth the wait. I went there for lunch today and found my first surprise. A Sonic favorite of mine, the Philly CheeseSteak, was available! (No, it's not a real "cheesesteak", but it's not a bad fast-food variation.) Fries, a Cherry LimeAde and a chocolate malt finished off my meal. The great thing about Sonic is the variety of its menu. You can get hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken and more. The drink selection is outrageous. And the cost is reasonable. Since it's Opening Week, there's been a lot of talk about the wait. This was my second time ever having Sonic, my first time was a few years ago at the one in Kingston, NY. I ordered a strawberry limeade, fries, and chicken pieces and was definitely happy with my meal. The strawberry limeade was really delicious but the chunks were a little strange in it. I'm not a huge fan of their honey mustard sauce, could definitely be a little more sweeter than tangy. I ordered from the patio intercom and it was insanely hard to hear the person, my cousin ordered on the other side intercom and hers was fine. So I think they just need to tune it up or have it looked at. I don't eat fast food too much nowadays but they are definitely an exception! read more

I'm usually never disappointed with Sonic, but my trip there last night was not the best. They messed up on my order 3 times. I ordered the toasted bacon cheeseburger and it was basically a bacon cheeseburger on white bread, not toasted. It made the sandwich really unpleasant. My sister also ordered a small Hi-C and they gave her a large, and charged her for a large, and I ordered a chocolate shake which didn't come with our order or even on the bill. I ended up ordering my shake before we left at 8pm so I got it half off because of their special so I guess it worked out in my favor. I hope that next time I go they get my order right. read more

Have been here a few times since the lines died down. And each time the experience was OK as was the food. Unless the food was THAT much better when they first opened up...I can't see why anyone would want to wait 5 minutes let alone 30 minutes. The food in on par with any other fast food restaurant and frankly i think Wendy's still better quality. But you the novelty here is that you get to eat (and spill stuff) in your own car and they bring the food out to you on skates. Food is OK, with a few different things like tater tots, loaded hot dogs, etc, that you might not find at other fast food places. So if your in the mood for this other stuff, go for it. Just temper your expectations, it's still just average fast food...in your car. read more

I live super far from this sonic and it's one of the only ones on Long Island as far as I know but my mom never wants to eat here, so I went by myself while I was nearby and I was so excited. Everything was great and I was very happy. The only thing keeping this from getting 5 stars is that I ordered a chocolate oreo milkshake but was given a chocolate milkshake. I thought I had over paid at first too because the chocolate oreo one costs more but they only charged for a chocolate milkshake. Should I have checked this before leaving? Yes. Should I have noticed when they put my order on the screen? Yes. But was it my job to? No. This was obviously an honest mistake and I don't blame the worker at all, it was just a slight disappointment but overall a great experience for my once a year trip to sonic. read more

My new found love for this fast food joint. Well, not particularly fast when they have about 20 drive-in stalls and about a 5-10 minute wait for your car just to get into them. I rode my motorcycle here so I had to wait about 12 minutes to get one of their only 6 or so outdoor tables. I ordered a philly cheesesteak and a large vanilla shake. Cheesesteak was a foot long and was topped with onions. So good that I must say it's way better than Wawa's. The shake was thick and creamy as heck...I needed a spoon to shove it into my mouth. Best deal of the day was the half price happy hour from 2-4 where I got a last minute medium powerade for a buck. I actually realized they also have a drive-thru window as well when we were leaving. You just don't get the staff on roller skates bringout out your food. But it's probably quicker to order this way. Love the food, love the concept, hate the long lines. read more

The day I have long awaited is HERE!! No longer will I be taunted by their commercials. No longer will I have to drive to Jersey, or fly to Florida for the sweet sweet Limeade goodness. Sonic is on Long Island! Sonic is good fast food that comes with AMAZING drinks and a great atmosphere. The dogs are probably the best food on the menu. The Burgers are pretty tasty and come with a range of fresh toppings. The Fries are a disappointment. But MY LORD the drinks!! Whether it is the Shakes, the Slushies, the flavored Iced Teas, the Flavored sodas or my personal favorite the LIMEADES... the drinks here cannot be beat. (take it home and toss some Vodka in them... only makes it better.) Really just a great fast food experience. I don't know why it took so long for them to come to Long Island, but I am sure glad they did. They better open some more quick. read more

Bypass the line to get in, drive up to the entrance of the parking lot next door (there is another entrance to the Sonic parking lot for walk-ins from that lot). Use the walk-in entrance. There could be a slight wait to get a table, or you can just do take out... We stopped by this location for the first time after a day at the beach. It was about 5:30pm on a Saturday and the wait for the drive-in wasn't too bad but we opted to walk-up instead. I had the All American Hot Dog, which came out a bit soggy since the bread soaked up a lot of the juice from the relish. I would have appreciated if they were more careful with that. The hot dog was delish though and appeased my appetite! I also had a diet cherry limeade which came with two wedges of lime and two cherries! Next time i'll have to try the chili cheese tots that someone yelped about below! read more
