My boyfriend and I always get an ice cream here on stay at home movie nights. Service is as best as it can be. I think some of the reviews are harsh. You have to keep in mind that this is a very small town and one of three drive thru's. You have three choices: Sonic, McDonald's, or Del Taco. Sonic is the only fast food who has happy hour after 8 so drive thru is always about 5 minutes or more depending on other orders. Staff is always friendly! read more

I went thru the drive thru to get a corn dog for my 4 yr old grandson, I noticed the drive thru was VERY dirty in kept and signs missing covers etc. anyway I got the order got a corn dog out and gave it to him, he tried to take a bite but it was too hot so he put it down and it rolled off the car seat and fell between his leg and the car seat and he started screaming, I quickly grabbed it and had to use the juice box to cool the friggin burn on his leg, (he had shorts on)so then I calmed him down and came home so he could eat there, upon arriving home I sat him down and served him , I noticed that even after 5 minutes from there to here the corn dog was still blazing hot!! I work in a remote location and today I took a chance and went for the first time to the Sonic in Shafter. I used the drive thru. They weren't terribly crowded as there were two cars in front of me. I ordered boneless wings which I always like at Sonic. I ordered Tator tots as well. I even repeated myself. I get my order and away I go. As I was driving up the street I decide to sneak a tot. Of course they gave me fries. I turned around and went back. (I was 5 minutes late getting back as well) it took them over 5 minutes to get my tots. The lady was at least nice and said she owed me a dessert. I get to my office and open my boneless wings. Not even half of them have sauce. And fast food workers want $15 per hour? I've lived in shafter my whole life and every time I've been to this place I've had nothing but rude people. Just last week they charged me for my order and someone else's order and refused to give me a refund for the order I didn't authorize. The girl didn't even tell me she "accidentally" charged me, they print receipts now and I watched her just crumble up a paper and throw it away, thinking it was just a blank receipt or something. I was wondering why she took so long with my card. Then when I called about the transaction they acted as if I was lying saying "their system doesn't allow them to charge twice". It obviously did. I live in Oklahoma where sonic started, and as previous post state this place is pretty pathetic , the staff are rude and act like you are bothering them , and even though they are supposed to be open till 10:pm several times I have noticed that they are closed around 9 pm, also ,if you are a regular thru town you will notice that the employees are always parked in the first four parking spots ,instead of where the customers are supposed to park . I have never once gotten an order from them that is right, 4 times I have ordered the foot long chilly cheese dog with onions , and never gotten them, and when you ask them to fix your order , oh my gosh , thought I had asked them to donate a kidney ! Hamburger patty's always taste as though they are over cooked or just plain old . This place needs a drastic attitude adjustment . On a roadtrip down to SoCal, we decided we wanted to have Sonic on the way there because a lot of people that were in our van never had it before and those of us who have, wanted to try something different there... so I looked on their locator and saw that there were about 9 in or near Bakersfield.... so when we got to that area... I searched for a close on on our Garmin... and it said 4miles away... but it sure wasn't... we were brought to the middle of no where thinking that theres no way there would be a Sonic here.... and sure enough... we found one... basically in the middle of no where... I don't know if it was because it was late (well not even that late... it was like 9 or 10...) but the food didn't taste as good or as fresh from the previous time we had it... the bathroom was way disgusting... and the people here just didn't seem friendly whatsoever... I had the popcorn chicken and I couldn't even bite through the majority of them... they were hard and stale... my hubby who had said previously that the burger that he had from Sonic last time was one of the best fast food burgers he's had... did not even like his burger at all this time... and everyone else felt like those commercials are all lies. haha read more
