Moved here from CA and was so excited to be able to get an ocean water with some mozzarella sticks... until I got there and waited in the drive thru for almost 25 minutes, 5-10 spent just at the speaker waiting for someone to tell me they'd be with me in a moment. The lady on the actual headset was extremely nice but I was sitting at the window waiting for my food just to see cars behind me getting larger orders already before my simple order? Alex was the girl at the window who just had a unprofessional attitude and seemed kinda clueless when I told her my drink tasted like there sprite was out of syrup. Sadly as much as I enjoy sonic, I won't be giving my money to this location. If I could have given 0 stars I would have, we went to get shakes and decided to sit on patio, we pushed the button to order and they turned the power off....their response..."we turned it off so cars would stop coming in. That way they think we're closed." Don't go to this sonic. They always manage to screw up your drink and order. My wife wanted to surprise me with some food and she ordered a double cheeseburger and medium fires, ocean water with vanilla and cherry they gave her a BLT and small fry, and an ocean water with no vanilla or cherry. Every time we have gone they always screw up the drinks. You ask for cherry fruits and they don't give it to you. Just poor service and they manage to screw up our orders every time. We have also had to wait over an hour before at one of the parking order stations to get our food and there were only a few cars at Sonic I don't recommend going here, it's better to drive to another Sonic read more

Slow. Unresponsive. Indifferent. Sad. I parked in a drive-in space just after 10:00 pm on a Tuesday night... after all, it is called "Sonic Drive-In" and they are open until midnight. After pushing the red order button, I waited ten minutes before a response came over the speaker letting me know I needed to use the drive-thru for service. I got in the drive-thru line at 10:23 pm. Once at the speaker, I waited another couple minutes before he said: "My name is Dallas, I'll be able to take your order in just a minute." At 10:40 pm, I was able to give my order through the speaker. I wasn't handed my food until 10:49 pm. Not counting the time waiting in the drive-in spot beforehand, it took 26 minutes to get through the drive-thru just to order two items off the menu. read more

I would rate the quality of the food but we never even had a chance to order anything. Sat in the drive thru for 30 mins and the lady in front of us was waiting to order. We heard them tell her just a minute. After 15 minutes we decided to leave and just go get milkshakes from Frugals (highly recommend, they have employees that actually work!). Was super excited this was built, however been there once before tonight ans waited almost 45 minutes for a milkshake. There was no way out of the line. But tonight took the cake. Nobody in line except one car at the window, do I get to the speaker. They day I'll be with you in a minute, I respond with that's fine I need a minute. So when I decide I say I'm ready when you are, he then says " okay" and that's it. I'm just thankful to have a Sonic nearby again since I just moved here. I love the cheese tater tots and the chili cheese tater tots. My husband is a fan of the chili cheese coney. They have the best ice for their drinks and I love the ice cream. The service is a bit slow and the ambiance is what you would expect for a fast food restaurant but I'll keep coming back. It does get busy so give yourself plenty of time if you're on a lunch break. The drive thru line can get pretty long as well as the waits at the car stalls. read more

I've been to this location many times, on different days, at different times and it is always, ALWAYS painfully slow. (Ex: today it took over 20 minutes to get two drinks and an order of mozzarella sticks.) The employees are always nice and the food is fine (just normal Sonic food), but lordy, do not go here if you're starving or expect to get your food in a timely manner. Ok...I never leave a bad review. If I can't say something nice, I usually just don't say anything at all. But...something needs to change, here, y'all. I would blame it on Covid-related staffing issues, but the 1 star reviews go back 2 years or more, so....I dunno. Alright, the good with the bad: I spent more than 20 minutes in the drive-thru (there were 6 cars in front of me). But, I was so happy to be at a Sonic for the first time in years, that I didn't even care. I was just looking forward to the awesomeness that is Sonic Chili Cheese Tots (with extra onions). To their credit, I think they were making a real effort to improve, in that a nice young man came out to deliver the drinks and grab payment from each vehicle in line. My cherry-limeade slush was soooooo good! Now, I'm not an idiot...I did a quick glance in the bag to confirm I got a burger and my tots. I just didn't look really closely. Really wish I had, though, because by the time I drove home (an hour away...I was just visiting Tacoma), and got a look at what constitutes a medium chili cheese tots with extra onions at this location...well, there wasn't much I could do but weep. How in the @#*! does 8 tater tots equal a medium anything??? Are you kidding me?!! What's a small look like? As you pass the window, someone throws a single tot directly into your mouth?!? I mean...that's just cruel. And needless to say, their idea of extra onions left a lot to be desired. Although, I guess a one to one ratio of onions to tots...maybe that technically counts? The whole thing looked like nouvelle cuisine. And like nouvelle cuisine, you get very little food for the money. I think I paid $5 bucks for those 8 tots. To be fair...they were delicious. 60 delicious seconds of awesomeness. Also, to be fair...the burger was perfection. Just like back home in Texas (where, it must be said, the Sonics are run like the tightest, happiest ship...seriously, the staff there seems to be on loan from Disney, and I don't think I've ever been in line for more than 10 minutes). It almost made up for the tots. But dude, the whole point...the thing I had been looking forward to for a week...was the chili cheese tots with extra onions. Sigh. I have to go back to Tacoma next week. I don't even know if I should try again. I don't know where the problem lies, but somebody needs to get it in gear, y'all. We came to sonic tonight to the 98th & Pacific Ave location in Tacoma and it was a shit show to say the least! We got to the order window at 8:20pm Ordered 2 cheeseburger meals with Sprite, order of cheese sticks and 2 shakes.. took maybe 5 minutes to get to the window which was fine..no problem with that BUT the wait at the window for the food and drinks was 20 MINUTES! NO I AM NOT OVER EXAGGERATING at all! He handed us our food maybe 5 minutes after getting there and 1 sprite...and the man working walked away... we sit and wait for someone to come back and maybe 5 minutes later the carhop guy,Collin came and asked if we needed something else-I told him we didn't get the shakes OR the other sprite.. he asked the guy making the shakes where they was and he said he took them out already.. Pushed button again and waited, still no one. Finally left. Manager was at a car, we waited to Express our frustration with waiting. Yes she apologized but there was every excuse in the book as to why we weren't asked for our order. We only have 3 headsets was the main excuse and when the button is activated we don't know from which stall. WOW! ABOUT TIME they opened a Sonic close to my house in Spanaway! I used to love going to Sonic but hated the distance and how crowded it would be in Tacoma or Puyallup. I've been here twice this week for a cold drink since the weather has been nice and sunny. And I have experienced fast service, consistent drinks, and even got help with paying with the app. However today the stalls were closed. Updated review: Drove up at 1130, store online says closes at midnight but sign on wall says 1am. The kid on drive thru box welcomed us then immediately asked us to wait. After a few minutes the hubs started to say hello, you there, we're ready, hello and silence. We then waited another min and still no response. So I decided to call the store. The same kid answered and said we're closed then verified it with his mngr who confirmed at 1137 pm they were closed so I asked him to put her on the phone and excuse after excuse she said they were closed so I then tell her we are in the drive thru then all of a sudden it was our fault we didn't trip their sensor and come up to the window. This sonic is horrible for service!!! Either they need to shut down or get better workers with more training. I sent their corporate office a complaint so hopefully another patron would get better service. Saturday night old school date night....a complete bust thanks to the messed up order and uhm that side of food poisoning we didnt order. My husband spent the rest of our date night (1.5 hr AFTER eating Sonic Tachos and oh a over cooked corn dog with the center being green...corn dog went straight to the trash...but the tachos looked ok so we thought) vomiting and well you know what out the other end. Now a day later and he is still trying to recover from that amazing side of FOOD POISONING he was given from this amazing establishment. If I could give a zero I would. We have sat at stall 14 for over 15 minutes for TWO drinks tonight. We pressed the red button TWICE to ask what the wait was for and got no response. So my husband had to walk up to your window and bang on it to get your attention. He said we had been waiting 15 minutes for our drinks and they knew exactly our order as the lady responded 'oh the two diet cherry limeades?'. There were over six workers inside.
