If you don't read the news, you don't live in NYC, or you live in NYC with your head buried in the concrete, you may not be aware that everything has become unconscionably expensive lately. When it comes to eating and drinking out, there's not much we can do about it, except to find good happy hours. Sonnyboy has a great happy hour. We were wandering around on a sticky day, and saw people eating and drinking at tables in the middle of the street, and that was the energy we wanted. We were pleasantly surprised to find a menu with quality $12 cocktails (shoutout to the Watermalone, exactly the thing to imbibe when you're sweaty), and various delicious things for only $11 like a very solid burger (reminiscent of McDonald's in the best way), an even better fried chicken sandwich, and an absolutely gorgeous and incredible burrata peach toast. If peaches are in season, it's exactly what you need in your life. And they were. I already felt obscenely lucky to have an affordable and tasty meal (with cocktails) in the middle of a Manhattan street, but it was also the night before the Pride Parade, and let me tell you, the people watching was spectacular. I wish you all similar happiness in the near future.

Nice brunch place. No frill but good food and drinks. The service was good but the staff looked a bit too busy. It is pretty small, I recommend to book a table to not wait too long

This past Friday, I hosted a birthday dinner at Sonnyboy for a group of 12 and it ended up being the best place I could have chosen for a large party. I had emailed Jatin, the restaurant owner, in advance to organize the large party and he arranged 4 tables next to each other to accommodate the group. That was perfect because we were close enough to all talk, but not trapped at a long table without any ability to get out. Beyond the table, Jatin was incredibly responsive and helpful before the event and was so nice while we were there, making sure we were well taken care of the whole time. Plus he made this paan drink that was absolutely incredible. The service there was excellent in general and everyone was really sweet. As for the food, we ordered all of the small plates to share before people moved on to entrées, and there genuinely wasn't a miss. The Kung Pao cauliflower was my personal favorite. It was crispy, saucy, and that cravable sweet and sour flavor that you get from manchurian. Loved it. The tingly fried chicken lived up to its name: ultra-crispy, juicy, and layered with flavor from the Szechuan pepper, mustard green mayo, and lime that made it feel really bright. I also really loved the shrimp dish and the shishito peppers. I'm gluten free and felt very well taken care of. There were lots of options and the servers and kitchen were really clear with me in terms of cross contamination. Meanwhile, the rest of the group, who are very much not gluten free, could not stop talking about the burrata and fig toast, the marinara meatballs, and several other dishes they ordered. We all left full and happy. I would recommend this to anyone whether you're just getting some friends together or having a larger party. Already thinking about going back here next year. I added some photos, but we were having so much fun that these are a little blurry haha!

Went with a group of friends for brunch and we throughly enjoyed the experience. We had a party of four with a reservation and had nice outdoor seating. The food was great although did not have as much selection of items as I would have liked. However there is still a ton! I got the pancakes and really enjoyed them. They had great flavor and were super fluffy. My friends got other dishes and we all shared a mixture of sweet and savory dishes. Everything I tried from the menu was great overall and would recommend to others.

I am not sure about other food but the food I order is really salty (both the salmon and add on chicken). But the pouch eggs are good. The matcha latte is not that great. All I taste is the powder. As for the service, it is really hard for us to get the server's attention. But the location is so nice. The restaurant decoration is pretty and instagrnamly.

Came here for dinner on a Friday and was happily surprised to find out that they had happy hour available on a Friday! (Most places tend to have HH from M-T only) We got the fried chicken sandwich with fries and a Kale Caesar salad with crispy chicken added on. The salad was nice and big and I liked the added chicken as it was still juicy and tender despite being fried. The chicken sandwich was what you would expect, but not in a bad way, just a standard fried chicken sandwich. Weirdly the menu said fries were shoe string fries but they just seemed like normal fries. Service was quick and the atmosphere was nice with dim lighting at nighttime. I would come back for brunch as their menu seemed yummy for brunch.

Went here for brunch and was told there was a 30 minute wait. As it turns out, we only had to wait for 10. Outdoor seating is literally in the closed street, so we sat indoors at the bar. As stated on the menu, the Cucumber and Watermelon cocktails were very refreshing, but I can't remember the names at the moment. The food menu and restaurant itself is not the biggest, but it's fine because the food we got was on point. Beware: the lemon ricotta pancake is most definitely shareable between multiple people. The berry compote combined with the whipped cream was so good. Shakshuka was excellent (better than the one at Shuka) and the Beef Burger was also good. I think the fries may be seasoned with turmeric? Or annatto? Not sure but they will turn your fingers yellow.

We had a great experience here. They were able to accommodate our large group by pushing some tables together. The service was quick and everyone we interacted with was so nice. Everyone's drinks were cute and delicious. The food was also great. I loved the gluten free ricotta pancake! Delicious! The gluten free banana bread also rocked!

I liked how fluffy the golden eggs were but the salad was plain as it did not come with dressing. We also had the pancakes which were very sweet. I made a reservation in advance which i recommend since the place is on the small side.

As an Aussie of course I had to go check this place out. But I was sad to find out the original owner had actually sold it to someone who is not Australian. Nevertheless, I was able to try the brunch at this quite small restaurant and it was delicious. There's also still a couple Australian items on the menu which is awesome to see (although there is a mistake printed on it. It's "parma" not "parmy" ) I ordered the harrissa egg fold which was phenomenal (but why does it cost extra to add toast?) and an espresso Martini that was probably the best I've had in NYC although that doesn't say much as I'm not from there and you can only order so many.

Nice brunch options for a casual vibe. I recommend the burrata and fig toast, the apple salad, and the folded eggs. Server was kind and attentive.

Not surprising, then, that it was pretty packed by the time we finished dinner, at 10:30ish. Serptentine has a solid cocktail list, one that definitely reflects the West Village sensibility. The drinks are all clear variations of classics (ie., martini, negroni, espresso martini, margarita, old fashioned, etc.) but with some added intrigue. All well-executed and made efficiently, which is very impressive during weekend primetime. If you're not nearby I wouldn't make a trip to the area just for Serpentine, but it's a fantastic option if you live/work in the neighborhood and/or are getting a meal in the area and are looking for a bar to start or end at. As I mentioned, it was relatively busy when we arrived here. There weren't any open seats initially but the host said we could hang around the bar for a bit, as he expected a table to open soon. It was probably 10 minutes before we were sat which is basically like being sat immediately in New York time. And generally, the staff here were great -- very personable and accommodating, quick service, only praise in that area. The vibes here are cozy but lively, giving more of a friend hangout than a date (it's also relatively loud so not ideal for conversation if you're sitting across from someone at a table, versus standing and mingling or sitting on bar stools). If you're a dirty martini person you are in luck here, because the Serpentini (grey goose vodka, dry vermouth, olive brine, pepperocini liqueur) is unlike any other. And I get dirty martinis pretty much everywhere I go, so that's saying something. Why is it so unique, you may ask? Well, the pepperocini liqueur is a nice touch and props to whoever decided it was necessary to make such a thing. But the real game changer is the sidecar. You may be thinking -- how is a sidecar unique? Well, it's not just any sidecar...it is not filled with more martini but simply PURE FILTHY BRINE. I mean, if you're ordering a dirty martini, you probably would take a bath in olive brine, brush your teeth with olive brine -- hell, maybe even your contact solution is just olive brine. Want to make your martini dirtier as you drink it? Serpentine has you covered. It is so simple and obvious yet I've never experienced it before. And, because I've never met someone who loves dirty martinis who doesn't also drool over blue cheese-stuff olives, the Serpentini's got that too. Though less exciting and groundbreaking, Mezcal Negroni (ilegal mezcal, campari, averna amaro, lo-fi gentian amaro) is also solid. I love a mezcal negroni and this one is relatively straightforward, just a subtle variation with a few different amaros to add some complexity and herbal notes. A fun and versatile neighborhood spot. It's in prime location so I imagine to rent is absurd, so fingers crossed that it sticks around!
