Great customer service. Great environment. The food is hit or miss. But good for the most part. Sometimes the meat is smoked a little too long. And they tend to run out of menu items prematurely, which is disappointing. I was told the open days were weds-sat, and I went yesterday on Weds and they were closed with no explanation on the door. Went today based on recommendations from friends. I ordered the whole smoked catfish and my husband ordered brisket. I really loved the red beans and rice too. Anyway my catfish came whole with bones but they showed me an easy way to get the meat off and it was very tasty and flavorful. This was the perfect spot for a family meal. Chill vibes, wonderful hosts, delicious food. The boys played a game of pool while we waited. We tried the pulled pork, rib tips, sausage, brisket nachos and I sampled the sides: perfectly seasoned green beans, jambalaya with just the right amount of spice, red beans and rice and mac and cheese. The sauces were a nice addition, but totally not needed as the meats were juicy. Check out the decor while here, the place has a few fun antiques. Oh, and the homemade fresh lemonade was perfect. Came here on a Friday night and got the 3 meat sampler. Brisket, sausage and beef rib was all really good. It's ducked off so it's hard to find a little bit but overall the food was good. The barbecue was excellent and I'm pretty picky about barbecue. Plus, this place has pool tables, karaoke, recliners, old jukebox boxes and all kinds of stuff. Outdoor patio too. We happened upon this place when we were in the area and looking for dinner. BBQ sounded good so we popped in. Nestled in what we thought was an industrial area is a hidden gem. The smell from the parking lot told us we were in for a treat. Highly recommend the pulled pork and the brisket and the smokey beans and the mac and cheese and ... well you get the idea. Pretty much everything on the menu is worth trying. We got the BBQ sauce but to be honest, the meat was far more flavorful and didn't need the sauce. Definitely go for the smokey beans over the baked beans. Don't forget the entertainment. We arrived on karaoke night (every other Friday). Go give JB and The Smokey Pit some love! read more

Came down from up north looking for some good barbecue in the south. Called this place to check their hours and they were closing in 30 minutes, but were willing to stay open for us to come in and order. The food was great and they also threw in a couple of extra things. The pound cake was melt in your mouth good. Also the young girl was very sweet and offered me a tour of the beautiful restaurant with that down home feel. Overall the experience was great and will be coming back again. read more

Looked like it was a family owned restaurant. This restaurant was way out of where we usually go. It was in a very secluded location. It has a lounge area, pool area, patio and regular seating area. The in decor was very outdated but we went there after hearing very good opinions about the food. We are very glad we went there. We ordered 2 meats which each came with 2 sides. We got a chicken leg quarter which was quite juicy and well seasones. The Rib tips were amazingly seasoned but the meat was a little tough than i would enjoyed it to be. Coming to the side dishes, they were really good. We got Mac and cheese - very silky and very cheesey Jambalaya - this side was charged extra but was worth it. Amazing taste. Red beans and rice - very homely tasted Baked beans - had that nice sweet barbecue sauce taste. Ordered Chicken/sausage gumbo - the best dish i ate there. My husband and I made this our date night. It was perfect. It wasn't crowded. The staff made sure the food was hot and fresh. They were professional and attentive. Another hidden gem! This place offers nostalgic smokey BBQ flavors, mainly reminiscent of Texas style smoked meats. The meat is well-seasoned, tender and the smokey taste lingers after the last bite. There are three sauces (habanero, regular and spicy) that all compliment the meats very well. The baked beans were fantastic. My family enjoyed the Mac n' cheese and potato salad as well. There is light traffic since this place is fairly new. It is a great addition to Baton Rouge as there aren't many BBQ restaurants that can compete with south LA home-cooked BBQ. This place also has pool tables, a fully stocked bar and an outdoor patio; plenty of variety to enjoy family and friends. The staff is also welcoming and pleasant. I highly recommend it! This is the best BBQ I've ever had-- period. I love the brisket, the ribs, and the burger, but the smoked turkey is the thing. The homemade lemonade is awesome and the atmosphere is nice with a large patio. The juice and smoothie bar adds to the diversity. Simply put, it's in the smoke. It's a must try. First impression the telephone service, not good. Nice older lady took our order. Kept asking us to hold on, then she could not hear us but we worked through this. She did repeat everything we ordered. With all that being said I ordered the pulled pork, wanted chicken breast but they did not have it due to COVID ( not a full menu) got my sides and an extra side wanted to try the jambalaya. I got a chicken leg quarter instead of jambalaya. My team member got his order correct he ordered the leg quarter with beans and Mac & Cheese. He said the Mac & Cheese tasted like Kraft Mac & Cheese. Each time we have shown to restaurant during scheduled open business hours, the restaurant is closed. No one answers the phone. When I first pulled up I was a bit concerned, this place is nestled amongst warehouses on a back road. But man am I glad I pushed through, the smell from the parking lot was intoxicating! The service was very warm and welcoming. If it's your first time they give you samples of whatever you would like to try. Deciding on just one protein was hard after sampling the very moist and tender brisket and pulled pork. They were happy to oblige our mixed plates request! I added smoked salmon to mine, which was amazing and a large portion! They also do smoked catfish on Thursday & Friday- but come early because they will sell out! My only disappointment was they were sold out of the Mac n cheese, but the smoked angus beans had just the right amount of sweetness to balance the smoke. All BBQ sauces are served on the side, the have enough BBQ was soooo good along with the spicy!! My boyfriend had the jalapeño and cheese smoked sausage and it was very tasty also!! The beef rib and brisket were amazing (Very tender and star of the show!) The bone inside the beef rib just slid out! Owner and staff were very friendly and provided excellent customer service and conversation while they prepared the order. My wife and I headed there today for take out and were both blown away. We had the beef rib and brisket with sides. The sides were very good (especially the jambalaya) but the meats were incredible!
