We walked in on a recent Saturday to a cordial greeting and a 15-minute wait for seating -- reasonable for a weekend lunch crowd. The order was taken promptly, though the food took a bit longer than expected to arrive. Faster service would have been appreciated, but as I'll explain, the sandwich more than made up for the wait. The food is the story here. We are serious brisket people. We're talking 13-hour smokes at home for friends and family -- so we don't impress easily. We ordered the chopped brisket meal with fries, and I'll say this: it holds its own. The brisket arrived hot, tender, and with a genuine smokiness that didn't tip into overdone. That's a line a lot of BBQ joints cross. Sonny's doesn't. The portion is generous on your choice of bread, and the garlic bread is a smart touch -- it adds just the right savory contrast to the sweet. Speaking of sweet, Sonny's house BBQ sauce is, in my opinion, one of the best in the game. Bold claim, but I stand by it. The sweet tea was exactly what sweet tea should be in Mississippi -- strong, cold, and uncompromising. No notes. The atmosphere is exactly what you want from a BBQ joint: relaxed, comfortable, unpretentious. Good value for what you get. Brisket sandwich: 8/10. It satisfied a craving that had been building for years, and that's not nothing. We'll be back the next time we're passing through the area -- and honestly, it might become a reason to pass through the area. Pro tip: Go in without a time crunch. When we walked in no one was at the hostess desk. We waited for a bit hoping someone would notice us or make eye contact. Jimmy D took us to our table and waited on us. We ordered the Pork Egg rolls my husband and I both ordered the Smoked Turkey plates. The turkey was very tender and the green beans were good. Jimmy was great! It's crazy that this place Only has three stars!!! Stopped in for lunch after a meeting, it was incredible. My coworker recommend the pulled pork, but our waitress said she liked the brisket. So I did a two meat combo with pulled pork and brisket... Both were amazing. The brisket was phenomenal, perfect smoke, excellent bark, moist, and full of flavor. My coworker recommended doing the pulled pork as a sandwich between two pieces of garlic bread... It was incredible. You can order the sandwich this way if you want. We were visiting in the area today and picked up lunch take-out from Sonny's in Brandon. Window service was friendly, but extremely slow. However, pulled pork sandwiches, fries, and slaw were good. My husband and cousin went to pick up the bulk meats for our Christmas party they made them wait over 40 minutes! I told them will pick it up between 11 to 11:15 am- as they arrived a bit early was told must wait til 11:15 so it's 11:15, our order wasn't ready until finally got it at 11:30! Visited the restaurant last night around 730pm. I was one of 2 customers in the dining area. The serving took 10 minutes to come take my order. When she came she was pleasant . I ordered unsweet tea as my beverage and it took forever to bring it out. The server expressed that the place was slow tonight and they are cleaning so she got distracted. I ordered my meal and food was out quickly but I needed a knife cut my brisket as well as dress baked potato. Myself and another firefighter made a trip to West Central Mississippi today to pick up some equipment and on our return we decided to stop somewhere and eat lunch . We started looking for places and that's when we came across Sonny's BBQ in Brandon. We were seated right away and our waitress was absolutely amazing. Our drinks came fast and she answered our questions in regards to the food. I went with the 4 meat plate with 2 sides . I chose sliced pork, smoked chicken, the wings and St. Louis ribs and for my sides I chose fries and baked beans. They had 4 different sauces to choose from but the food didn't need any sauces because it was well seasoned . The ribs was definitely the best followed by the sliced pork bellies. The quarter of chicken was very good as well . My only drawback was with the wings. Overall they were seasoned on the outside but just didn't carry the flavor deep . The wings we also pretty firm . The ribs I will give a solid 9 out of 10 . The pork a 9 out of 10 . The smoked chicken I would give an 8 out of 10 and the wings unfortunately I would give a 6 out of 10 . The baked beans were very good and I would definitely give them a solid 9 out of 10 . The fries were fries and salted perfectly. The butter toast that came with it was exceptional as well . For desert was the banana pudding that our waitress made herself. I give it a very strong 9 out of 10 . The flavor profile was exceptional all around . The sauces we had were as follows, original which was a thick like sauce decent flavor . I would give a 7 out of 10 . Next was the sweet sauce and it was very good earning a 7 out of 10 . Stopped into this restaurant while visiting friends who live in the area. Apparently they have been here several times and have enjoyed their previous meals. As for our visit, we had a very decent meal. First it came out fairly quickly and looked real good. As for taste it was decent. Our meats were well-cooked and not overcooked. we were barely greeted, we waited for over 40 minutes for our food, multiple tables received their food 20-30 minutes before we did, even though they arrived 20 minutes after us. it was empty when we came in so there should have been little to no wait. our "appetizer" of corn nuggets came with our food. we expected a wait on the one burger but not the appetizer, which comes before the food. restaurant has potential to be great if they got their service together. asked for a VALID refund for our "appetizer" and were greeted with an attitude, excuses, and a check slammed faced down on our table, and THEN proceeded to wait an additional 15 minutes just to pay, even though we made eye contact with our server multiple times, tried to get her attention when she walked by multiple times, and watched her walk around cleaning tables. we are teenagers just trying to sit down for a meal, greeted with attitudes and treated as if we were going to walk out on the meal. if you are a teenager looking for something to eat, don't go here, they will profile you. the only time our server "checked on us" was when we had already PRE-BUSSED our table and had our dishes pushed to the edge of the table, clearly waiting on our check. and all she asked was if we needed more of our drink. not once during our meal, but when we are clearly waiting on our check. we didn't want to be difficult or leave a bad review, but it was genuinely so horrible. every other table was greeted and checked on with smiles, we weren't even checked on ONCE. had a guy place our food on the table and that was it. we both work in the food industry, we both understand how it can be a lot going on at once, but theres no excuse for horrible service and "busy work" that takes president over your actual tables. i genuinely think i watched her re-clean tables while we were trying to get her attention. been eating here for almost 20 years, service just gets worse and worse every time i come in, but this was an all time low. read more

We went through the drive through... major mistake. The one star is for the horrible service. The food was great and deserves 4 stars but my order was wrong. When I took the sandwich out of the bag, the outside of the wrapper was covered in grease and bbq sauce. I had it all over my hands, not cool. Why oh why didn't I check Yelp before coming to this place. I've never been so disappointed in a Sonny's BBQ visit. The table (and floor) we were sat at was sticky and we could see it before we sat down. Not sure why the bus person couldn't see it. Told the waiter and he moved us to another table. The steamed broccoli was almost completely raw with no salt or butter. Asked for melted butter and got 2 tablespoons. Men's bathroom faucets were hanging by a promise and the door to enter was nasty. I know it's hard to find good help these days. I just wish people took more pride in their work. The waiter tried his best I think but kept forgetting to bring our check. I will chalk this one up to it being $5.50 Wednesday, which explains the small meat portions. Went to Sonny's BBQ on I-20 in Clinton, MS. It smells like fresh smoked meat. My goodness, the food from ribs, chicken, turkey, sides and other fixings are rock solid moist w/ awesome depth of flavors. Four different BBQ Sauces w/ Sweet Heat being my fav are available for eat in or take out. The Smoked Chicken Wings appetizers are succulent and delicious. Went here last night and it was packed! Wait time though was around 25-30 which easily passed by. We got seated in a booth and server quickly got our order for drinks then our food when we were ready. Some observations/comments about dining here: 1. Beverage cups were bigger than your usual restaurant cups but not once was it refilled. 2. St. Louis ribs were just ok for me. It came with a piece of bread, coleslaw, and beans. An order is like a half slab. You can upgrade the order to all you can eat ribs for $3.99 and extra ribs will be served on a small plate like 3-4 ribs at a time. This may well be good if you're hungry enough. Ribs were tender, sweet enough for me that a little sauce was all I needed. Sauces are on the side and comes in 4 types..original, sweet, 2 more I can't remember at this time. nothing really spicy to my taste. 3. Bbq chicken was good according to hubby. Sister and brother in law ordered all you can eat pulled pork and another order of St. Louis ribs and said they were just right. 4. Our server was nice despite a few errors on our order and ticket which was fine and she explained clearly the changes made on the ticket. Service was ok..l 5. Oh Sonny's, I'm really not sure who designed your "drive-thru" system in Brandon but, it is the most ridiculous set up I've ever seen. I called in an order for 2 pulled chicken sandwich meals w/ extra sides of corn and baked beans. The young lady said it would be about 10-15 min. So, I pulled into their parking lot to wait. When ample time had passed, I pulled up to the drive-thru and was told that I would have to come INSIDE to pick up my order. So, I went INSIDE and there was a line of 8 people standing there waiting to pick their CALL IN orders up. After waiting approx. 15min, they finally got to my order. I saw that my order had been just sitting there for the entire time! Not ONLY was my food cold, they had also not added the sides. Thankfully I had not been charged for them. If they would have just allowed me to DRIVE-THRU and pick up my food that was ALREADY prepared to be picked up, it would not have been cold and I would not had to go inside. SO, what I learned was that if you call in an order you have to go INSIDE to pick it up. IF YOU ORDER at the DRIVE-THRU, you can park and someone will bring it out to you. Sonny's used to be good a decade ago. I gave them a try again but the meat was flavorless and my last hope, their slaw, which has for the most part always been ok, was dry and also flavorless. I know the riots is crazy and they must be getting calls like crazy but just like last time I arrived to pick up my order and the order and sign specifically said to call, I called straight over and over again for 1 hour while I was in the parking lot, while my food was getting cold, and no one answered. The person who finally answered was actually in the parking lot on the phone and I was watching her. She said "I'm fixing your food right now." But she was in the parking lot. 20 minutes later (2 hours total) I got my food. If I had not paid online and thought cancelling would've taken longer, I would've cancelled it. read more
