Sonny's used to be good a decade ago. I gave them a try again but the meat was flavorless and my last hope, their slaw, which has for the most part always been ok, was dry and also flavorless. I know the riots is crazy and they must be getting calls like crazy but just like last time I arrived to pick up my order and the order and sign specifically said to call, I called straight over and over again for 1 hour while I was in the parking lot, while my food was getting cold, and no one answered. The person who finally answered was actually in the parking lot on the phone and I was watching her. She said "I'm fixing your food right now." But she was in the parking lot. 20 minutes later (2 hours total) I got my food. If I had not paid online and thought cancelling would've taken longer, I would've cancelled it. read more

Based on recommendations of some locals, I gave Sonny's a try. Got there at 4:00 after a long day and skipping lunch. When I walked in there was a 15 minute wait to be seated and not a full parking lot. My anticipation was growing. The menu looked delicious and I had difficulty deciding what to order. I did the St. Louis ribs, beans and slaw after an order of tots with queso, bbq sauce and onion straws. I should have stopped at the appetizer. The ribs were dry rub and not meaty or moist. The beans and slaw were good thank goodness. Thought I'd try the banana pudding and regretted that from the second bite. The banana slices were frozen and tasted like they could have been cucumber slices. Washed down with a nice amber ale the made me go from one star to two. read more

Did all that remodeling and changing and you guys also changed your sauces. Why ?! The old original sauce that came in the packs was AMAZING. The new original sauce is disgusting and taste like it's kraft bbq sauce. I came from out of town to eat here and was very very letdown by that change. Placed order online for Curbside Pick up Placed order at 11 am for pick up at 12:30 pm Arrived and called at 12:35 pm. 1:00 PM still no food. Complete Chaos in parking lot and inside establishment. What a mistake. I understand it's Mother's Day, but not acceptable service. This was dynamite! $5.99 Entree: sliced pork, sliced brisket, baked beans, and garlic bread. The meat was perfectly cooked, very tender. However, it lacked flavor and the smokiness that I was really looking for. But non the less, it was good. The baked beans, which I ordered two of because they used to be soooo good, were not good at all. They tasted like beans out of a can mixed with Heinz 57. No meat, no smokiness, just bland. $10.99 Food: 3.75 Took a long time to receive our food. Entirely too long considering everything was precooked with the exception of the egg rolls. The server, when she could be located, was attentive and pleasant. Service: 4 Overall: 4.25 Next time I will get the pulled pork big deal meal because their pulled pork was amazing and the smoke flavor was eminent. Sonny's BBQ in Clinton, MS should be ashamed. The price people pay for their Baby Back Ribs plate and how little was on the plate was out right atrocious. I recommend no one order their Baby Back Ribs. Their ribs have anorexia. There is no meat on the bones that they give you. You get more bone than actual meat I can go to other BBQ restaurants and get more meat on their Baby back ribs than at Sonny's. I can even get a steak dinner for the price I paid for that tiny pieces of meat. It was a bad experience one I will not repeat, and I hope others won't as well. read more

As I continue my drive to ATL., I avoided all the Waffle Houses and their scrumptious peKAN Waffles and arrived at this BBQ Place. Note BBQ places close early around here. Nice aesthetically pleasing place yet customer service is not good. The bar was open and it took 5 minutes to get acknowledge in my bright yellow Nike shirt. I ordered all you can eat ribs, if you get the ribs you can select from the other cuts, dry/no sauce which does lose its punch. The ribs were good without adding anything yet brisket needed sauce. The pulled pork needed sauce but good combo with broccoli. While waiting, the front door attendant kept complaining about customers coming in and I failed to receive better service even though I was the only one at the bar. The food was ok yet employees attitude was horrible. My bill $18...doubt ill be back here but wouldn't come back. read more

Feel like I was discriminated against and had the Worst customer Service ever by CECILIA. I went thru the drive thru to order some food I proceeded to ask the female who was taking my order if the potato salad hade celery in it because I have an allergy to it. She told me she wasn't sure. I asked if she could find out and her response was she couldn't and I should order something else. Then when I get to the window I ask if they have pickle chips or spears and her response was well we can only give you a small little bit. I said to her well I would like two side orders of pickle chips and I haven't even given you my card yet so you can charge me more if you need too. She proceeded to have an attitude about it and was like well ill see if I can. She treated it like it was a hassle for me to ask for something I enjoy eating with my meal. Then I could hear her say to another worker "Is he seriously asking for extra pickles". Honestly food also great taste but ribs were undercooked(not in as raw meat but as in barley could get the ribs off the bone and they were chewy). Wings had amazing flavor and were tender also the tater tots were crispy like I requested. Def wish the ribs had more give to them. Didn't even allow me to have a bite mark on them when pulling away. Flavor wise those the food was delicious and the Mac and cheese had a amazing tang that the only reason it getting a two. It could easily be a 5 star but my experience I had was unfortunately sad to be apart of The kicker is I had a coworker infront of me from Mississippi and I have a northern Boston accent and he said she was very nice to him and gave him extra sauces and pickels he asked for but doesn't understand why she was so rude to me. read more

I was in the mood for some good bbq and was so disappointed. The ribs were so tough you needed a sharp knife to get a little meat off the bone. The taste was ok but nothing special. I got the pork 3 ways and a friend got the sampler platter....none of the food was especially taste. While our waitress was very friendly, she had very little knowledge. I ask the diffrence between St. Louis ribs and baby back (just to see what she would say) and she said she did not know so she called another waitress over and she said that it was how they are cooked so I asked if they were larger ribs and the second waitress said she did not know. We had not had Sonny's in a long long time. But the food was even better than I remembered. The sliced pork was just right - smoky, tender and wonderful. The chopped brisket was as moist and tender as any I've ever had, and I wouldn't change a thing about that. BUT...we waited to be seated (granted, the place was full), and then we waited nearly 20 minutes to order and another 30 or so on our food - so, that hour plus was NOT fun with two kids under 5 years old. No explanation, although we did hear other servers apologizing to their tables for the wait. Must have been a kitchen problem, but we never heard. Again, food was excellent. This place can either be good or miss just like any chain. I wouldn't ever say it's amazing bbq but it's a decent quality. I like their ribs and slide pork. Their sides are pretty good with lots of options. I like their bbq sauces. The wait staff is usually pretty good. Some of the chicken I've gotten here has been very dry but sometimes that happens. This is a great place for good BBQ. I know things are a bit different with COVID, but the wait to get in and the wait for the food once we did get in and order was way too long. We have eaten at other restaurants recently and have not experienced such a long wait. We were told it would be 20 minutes to get a table and that turned into 45 minutes. It was about 20 minutes for us to get our food after we ordered. They were definitely not seating more than 50% capacity (probably more like 30%). Not sure why so little since the Governor of Mississippi has lifted all restrictions? The food was good. I had the St. Louis Ribs, my wife had the Brisket Sandwich and my daughter had the Smoked Turkey. During the covid lockdown, I've been pushing people to support local businesses and we have tried to order pickup meals at as many places we've enjoyed before the pandemic. Tonight we ordered 2 orders of brisket and redneck egg rolls. The eggs rolls were delicious as they always are. Still one of my all time favorite appetizers anywhere. The disappointment came from the brisket. It looked like it got thrown in the smoker without trimming the 1/2" fat off the back of it. Both orders of brisket was almost 50% slimy fat. And since it was take out and carried home, we couldn't talk to someone about it. If we were dining in, I would have had to asked for a new order. I was so craving BBQ tonight and considered Sonny's the best in our area...so it was a complete letdown on the meat. read more

Sonny's got a facelift! 9/29/2017 Decided after a few years of avoiding a place that we once frequented that we would give the fresh new Sonny's a try for lunch. It was good, so we decided to let them cater our reunion. 10/3/2017 As asked by the staff, we placed our catering order for Saturday well ahead of time. Was told that it'd be ready at 11:00a. 10/7/2017 Arrived to location at 11:02. There was a catering order ahead of me. This family was upset that not everything was ready at 11:00 on the dot. I wait patiently, but as I wait I watch the interactions of the staff with patrons within the restaurant. When asked questions, staff members often times wouldn't respond to the customer, never made eye contact, and would often turn their back to the customer and walk away. 11:28, they finally got past the first customer and this is the first time ANYONE from the staff addressed me. I had been in this establishment waiting by the takeout register 26 minutes before a single person on staff spoke to me. I was second in line, 2 others behind me. Order that was supposed to be ready at 11:00, was just getting started to be put together at 11:30. Young man comes to fill smoker with raw chicken halves. HANDLES SEVERAL of my catering packages with his black gloves that he had just used to HANDLE RAW CHICKEN AND picked up the order sheet off of the FLOOR. He did change gloves before handling the chicken again, but if I weren't afraid that it would take tremendously longer and the stuff handled was packaged, I'd have asked have asked for it all to be replaced. We finally left at 11:45, headed home to a house full of hungry waiting people. I understand that it gets really easy to get in the weeds in the restaurant business and something's can't be helped, BUT we can always give good customer service. It takes very little effort to smile, look customers in the eye, and speak to patrons. We probably won't return here for a long time and never have them cater for us again. I'm giving 2 stars just out of nostalgia, but it was probably closer to 1. To me, this is unfortunate. Sonny's got a facelift, but it's still ugly inside- not the decor. Sonny's used to be amazing. The last several times we've been in there has been less than subpar, the last time worst of all. Today we came in and were offered a seat on the patio. Which is fine, I understand the limited seating due to the virus. The problem was after approximately 40 minutes and nobody even acknowledged us (apart from the super sweet hostess). When we finally decided to walkout without being greeted by our server, nobody even looked up to say "Thank you" the servers were all huddled together talking. My first time. Ordered the sampler. The chicken was pretty good. The other meats, beans, and cold slaw were all marginally adequate.

The kitchen staff is EXTREMELY RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL. I very politely and respectfully asked if their BBQ sauce had any gluten (it doesn't) and also requested for them not to put any toast on my ribs. When I ordered, I also ordered some mac & cheese. It was FOR MY SON but I didn't feel like I owed them any justification for each item I ordered. The cook and others behind the counter loudly mocked and ridiculed me for being a hypocrite. I have celiacs disease but my son doesn't. I don't remember asking anybody for their input or rude, presumptuous comments concerning my very real health issue. It is not a pain in your butt to answer one single question "does the sauce have gluten." I didn't make a big problem out of it for anybody there. However their responses were rude and uncalled for. I had a thirst for some BBQ and remembered Sonny's was down the road.. I've been there a few times but this is the first time I've reviewed. I ordered curbside and got there a few minutes early.. 10 minutes after my order time I called and they brought it out so they could be attended to. The food was good but I once again tried the sliced pork.. For lack of a better word it's always "slimy." I keep forgetting to get double pulled pork instead.. The pulled pork was amazing and always is.. The redneck egg rolls were awesome as well.. My favorite part is the mild sauce it's finger licking.. To me the slaw wasn't good at all but that may just be my preference.. I lived in Clarksdale for a while so I have had some pants dropping BBQ..
