Second time this month going into Sonny's for their Founders Day specials. My husband ordered the pork that was shown for 14.99 and I ordered Ribs and pork $10.99. The last time we ate there, the ribs were way over cooked. This time they were even more over cooked. When our bill came it was way over $45.00. We had water to drink. When we ask for a manager, they sent a young girl, and we explained we were over charged. She grabbed our bill offthe table, and when she came back she had a nasty attitude and dropped our receipt off onto the the. This was the second bad experience we a had in just this month. We will not be going back to this location. When we left at 6.00 PM they had 1 customer in there eating. Business seems to be off. I wonder why? read more

Tammy is the best Sonny's server in the whole organization. She remembers what people drink months after she saw you last. All Sonny's are pretty consistent but Tammy makes the experience. I always get sliced pork or St. Louis ribs. I am not a big fan of pulled pork and most places serve that, i am thankful to get sliced pork here. read more

I used to visit Sonny's when it was a fast food type place in Jacksonville, NC. I was driving to a conference and saw this Sonny's on the way to my hotel so I stopped in. It was a sit down restaurant but it did have take out. I wanted to order take out but they seemed to be training a new cashier (I assume she was new because even though she was working the register alone there were several mistakes when her orders came out, as I was sitting waiting for mine). People complained that wasn't what they ordered so I'm assuming it was rung in wrong because it was what was on the receipt. I ordered a three meat plate. I would have liked the smoked turkey but it wasn't an option. The next person who ordered asked if he could get that as an option and she said yes, so I wish it had been on the menu as a choice for the combo. I got sliced brisket, sausage and chicken. I probably wouldn't get the sausage as an option again. The star of the show was the sweet potato with the cinnamon butter. Delicious. They also gave me sweet tea but I wanted unsweetened. I know I'm in the minority there so I should have checked it before I left. Everything else was good but I think I should have just ate in the restaurant. read more

Ordered one pound of chopped brisket to go. We get home and found one pound of cubed fat. We salvaged about 10% of edible meat. Called to speak to whoever is in charge and after holding for five minutes hung up. Called again and relayed our disappointment to the take out person and had them let their boss know. Stopped here on my way to Florida for a late lunch. I was greeted and seated right away and asked about my drink order. By the time I had looked at the menu Dericka was back with my drink and asked if I was ready to order. I chose the brisket sandwich on garlic toast. There was several different sauces on the table and I had the sweet one. Very good. My sandwich came out quickly and had a good amount of meat that was tender and had very little fat. I liked the decor of the place, especially the entrance,and it was very clean. I was very well taken care of really good service and very friendly. The food was filling and tasted average. The service was average and the ambiance is casual. We were seated right away. The restaurant is clean and the vibe is casual. We ordered corn nuggets as an appetizer and they were probably my favorite part of dinner. They were fried perfectly on the outside, while warm and creamy on the inside. They tasted great with the ranch dip, which was also very good. I ordered the Smokin Caesar Salad with pulled chicken, which is an extra charge. The lettuce seemed fresh. It came with 3 packets of Ken's Caesar dressing to put on the salad, which tasted average. There was a drizzle of BBQ on the pulled chicken, which was such a tiny drizzle, I could barely taste any of the "smokin" part. Not sure what they were trying to do there. The pulled chicken was cooked just right, but tasted okay. I guess I could have added more BBQ sauce myself, but I just settled with the Caesar dressing. My sister had the pulled pork with a side of coleslaw, green beans and garlic bread. She liked everything except the coleslaw. She only had one bite and said it wasn't good. I had some of her pulled pork, green beans, and garlic bread. The pulled pork was tender, but didn't wow me. The garlic bread was probably the best part of that dish, as it was buttered and toasted perfectly. My niece had Sonny's Cuban, which she liked with the BBQ mustard and extra pickles. She didn't finish her Mac & Cheese, which I tried. It was awful. It just didn't taste good. She tried adding BBQ sauce, but it didn't make it any better. Service was professional, but we waited a bit at the end for the ticket. And we weren't asked at any point for drink refills, although their cups are pretty large, so maybe that's why. All-in-all, the portions of each dish were good (we all had left-overs), but together we concluded everything tasted average. Maybe there are other items on the menu that are worth trying, but it might be awhile till I come back to Sonny's for BBQ. read more

Stopped here for lunch on the drive to Florida. The staff was friendly and accomadating. The atmosphere is comfortable. We always order the half BBQ chicken with 2 sides plus cornbread. The food is plentiful, tasty, and comes out hot. Lots of bbq sauces on the table to choose from. The prices are reasonable. I always order the sweet potato and coleslaw as my sides. The lack of management is the problem. When you pull up and the young manager is out smoking with her boyfriend on just about every visit. Then you have waitress staff bad mouthing other coworkers. The food is normally decent. Oh and the only waitress that took the time to make sure you was satisfied was fired for pettiness. Good luck Tammy. We decided to give this Sonny's another shot after a few years because of previous bad experiences and we just should've went to Willie Jewell's. They weren't busy and we were seated promptly. It took a few minutes for our waitress to finally make her way over to take our drink order, they were out of coke so we all decided on sweet tea and ordered the tots appetizer as they were out of wings and the barbecue egg rolls. She returned with drinks and took our order and we didn't really see her after that. The hostess brought our semi warm food about 25 minutes later. It tasted ok but was nothing special. We'll stick with Willie Jewell's for barbecue in Kingsland. read more

She ALWAYS went above and beyond for my family and others! It's sad she's no longer there. Tammy is amazing, and it so disappointing that she is no longer there. She MADE our experience wonderful every single time, even when we came in with big groups. Tammy made sure everything was fresh, and right the first time! I have eaten at Sonny's for 50 years. I ordered take out today, Chicken dinner and a rubbed rib dinner. We got home and the rib dinner only had 4 medium sized ribs. Not sure what happened or if that is the new normal. If it is I won't be back. Chicken dinner was good as usual. read more

We stopped in on our way to Florida. It was 8:30 and the place had a decent crowd which is always a good sign. It was clean and we were greeted upon entering and seated shortly thereafter. I had the Cobb salad and it was fresh. My husband ordered the sampler. I sampled his. We enjoyed the pull pork the most, the ribs weren't bad either, the brisket was good as well, but the chicken was bland and undercooked. The tea was sweet and the service was quick. Not bad overall. Customer service here is a 0 out 10. We bought a pulled pork sandwich on garlic bread and one piece of bread was less than half the size of the other piece, we walked back in to get a full size piece of bread and they took ten minutes to just flip the sandwich over so we couldn't see the smaller piece of bread. The store has lost 3 of it's best customers. In this economy you would think customer service would be top notch. Let's do better! read more

I never was a big fan of Sonny's BBQ until recently although I've tried them in a number of locations over the years. One of the things I've come to like about this BBQ chain is they are constantly looking for ways to improve the experience. The game changer for me was the introduction of their "smoked wings" they are absolutely fantastic - so much so that I've a actually started looking at Sonny's as a dining option over places I'm not familiar with because I know I will find consistency here. On a recent unscheduled drive from Connecticut to Florida I decided to stop in and grab dinner it was a little later than I normally like to eat and not long before closing so I was a little concerned about the quality. I grabbed a seat at the bar and was looking to get in and out quickly so I could continue my trip. Solid experience at this Sonny's location. For those unaware, Sonny's is a large chain with the same food choices. This one was clean and staff friendly. Plenty of parking. Didn't wait to be seated and food came out quickly. Very good lunch for about $10. The pulled chicken didn't have a lot of flavor on its own, but when covered with one of their four BBQ sauces (all on the table) it was good. I thought the two spicy flavors were the best. The lunch deal comes with your choice of two sides and a bread. The baked beans were good, but the sweet potato with cinnamon butter spread was outstanding. Service - always great local servers that never disappoint for sure. Cup always full, and if I get the all you can eat ribs, my plate is always with ribs, great tasting ones at that. Wasn't quite a 4 but 3 seems a little low. The main reason is because the temperature of the brisket. It was dry and just slightly warm. So obviously cooked and sat. And we were there at 12:30 so it was traditional lunch time. The sauces saved it, you do get four choices at the table, which is nice. The corn on the cob was hot and perfect. Garlic toast was really nicely seasoned and cooked and the fries were crinkle cut and good. The service for a Christmas Eve was good, our server was nice but I was supposed we were not offered a dessert. She just brought us the check. I really wanted to try the cinnamon donut holes. Oh well maybe another location at another time. It was clean and well staffed. Again a holiday, and closing early day for them, so kudos to them for working and keeping up their spirits. read more
