The BBQ is really good I do miss their big salad bar but my favorite is the ribs the help is really nice great place to take the family

My family and I arrived & there was no host to seat us. After ordering our drinks our waiter came to ask if we knew what we wanted but she still hadn't brought our drinks, we ordered fries and it came with a nice hair on it! The lettuce to my salad was soggy and the turkey tasted like school lunch meat... My mom asked for blue cheese & a waiter came and gave her ranch and said "here". After we paid the bill our waiter literally sat on the table next to us, waiting for us to leave. Overall our waiter had lots of attitude and we didn't really feel welcomed & left with a tummy ache. Grabbed lunch through the drive-thru. Service was fairly fast. The chopped brisket sandwich was delicious and the meat was very moist and flavorful. However, whoever was working the drive thru failed to give me any type of bbq sauce which was very disappointing. The seasonal peach cobbler eggrolls are to die for, although they would have been even tastier served with a scoop of ice cream. Overall, the lack of bbq sauce could have ruined the meal; however, luckily the meat was tasty enough to be enjoyed without sauce. read more

A must when visiting family in Lake City! The tea is sweet, the ribs are rubbed, the corn fritters are creamy and those beans are kickin. Service is served up with a smile and a y'all. The hot summer heat is here and I know it's too darn hot to be cookin at home! We opted to get the three meat family platter and went with chopped brisket, sliced brisket, and pulled pork. The brisket had an up charge of $4 for each portion which isn't too bad an up charge. We went with corn nuggies (or nuggets if you want to be proper lol) which was a $3 up charge, sweet potatoes, and two sides of Mac and cheese. I'm not sure why I thought when ordering sweet potatoes you'd only get one but when you order the family meal you actually get 4 medium sized sweet potatoes with cinnamon butter. The corn nuggies come with two sides of ranch. The corn nuggies were crispy and hot. The mac and cheese was creamy and perfectly cooked. Additionally you can choose garlic bread or corn bread or half and half. We opted for half and half and both breads were yummy! The cornbread was my favorite. You also get to choose two bbq sauces as well. They definitely provide enough for the whole meal and a little extra. For three people this was a huge meal and we had plenty of left overs that even the dogs got to have some! I picked up my meal from the drive thru and it needed a little time to still be put together. The service was very friendly and happy. The parking lot was busy and people were initially waiting outside when I pulled in. Not sure if it was super packed inside or if people chose to wait but when I left no one was standing outside. I loved that in the window out front there a raptor like dinosaur just chillin as if it's on display. Overall great service, friendly staff, and delicious food! A weak 4 stars graces this BBQ establishment. I've done so much BBQ in my life that I'll just cut straight to the chase. Staff: Friendly and quick service, though I was there past peak dining so I don't know how quick it would be otherwise. Environment: A nice place to eat alone or in a group. Value: Portion size may have decreased to accommodate the prices. Not expensive but a large stomach will need 2 meals. Taste: Sauces are good, especially the smoky one. I used that on most items. Mac and cheese was eh, coleslaw was coleslaw. Bread is good. Chicken has a nice smoked flavor to it. Pork was a bit fatty, surprisingly, and not that tender. Stars: 5 for staff and environment. 3 for value. 4.5 for sauces and chicken, 4 for coleslaw, 3.5 for pork and mac. Overall, I have no way to know how this compares to any other place in the city, but it beats the heck out of anything else this close to 75! read more

Ordered from here as take out. Unimpressed with the 50+ serving of brisket however the beans were delicious. Can't comment on the service or ambiance. I order a pulled beef sandwich every bite was full of nothing but white gushy fatness the fries where cold no seasoning i order some eggs rolls amd that was even nasty. I ordered the 3 meat combo. The pulled pork was fine, the sausage was fine, the brisket... I wish I was exaggerating when I say the brisket was all fat. There was one slice that had a little meat on it but the other 3 slices were just slices of fat. read more

I used to love this place but these days the food is just fatty... I can't even need the sandwiches anymore because they're just so much clumps of fat in the meat. Positives: Waitress was nice and order was accurate. Negatives: Cleanliness is a major area needing improvement here. The front door glass looked like it has never been cleaned. We were seated at a booth at which one side had a bunch of old dried up food in it. That my husband had to clean out himself to sit down. Everything seemed sticky. Condiment bottles were dirty and sticky. Then, my kid had to go use the restroom. The bathroom was sooooo disgusting. All the toilets had fecal matter splashed inside the toilet bowls. I had to clean the toilet seat myself- by clean I mean wipe off fecal matter using soap, water, and toilet paper. It was so bad. All the automatic paper towel dispensers were off/ dead with a raggedy wet paper towel roll sitting at the sink. There were maybe 4 or 5 tables in the place with people sitting at them and it was 5 pm. No excuse with all the employees there. Once we got our food, I was so disgusted, I barely ate. The meat didn't seem that hot, beans were barely warm with crusty residue on the bowl, my water had what looked like a lemon slice that had a bite taken out. Even the cornbread seemed extra dry like it was baked yesterday. I literally prayed to God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that we'd not get a food-born illness in Jesus' name. I don't know if management actually reads these but I've worked in a restaurant before and the bathrooms need checked every hour for maintenance cleaning- that's how you manage to keep them clean and from turning into a complete pig sty like you have now. Toilets need scrubbed and sanitized top to bottom along with the rest of the place. I wish I'd taken a pic. If the restaurant is this nasty in plain sight, I assume the dishes are dirty and cleanliness in the kitchen is probably not a priority either. This is 100% management fault. If the bathrooms are nasty and your staff are busy or you can't properly delegate tasks, then pick up the slack and clean them yourself. Don't let your restaurant get so bad. Do better! Dropped in for a quick lunch. Had salad bar with a side of sliced turkey. Turkey was hot and moist and the salad bar was spotless. My server was prompt and courteous. This location can get very busy during peak times. Although the restaurant can hold quite a few people the load can sometimes impact the service. Restrooms were in good shape too. My only complaint is that all the veggies on the salad bar get diced the same way. I prefer my beets and cucumbers sliced. Dicing everything into 3/8 cubes detracts from the flavor and texture of some foods. read more

So I was in Lake City this weekend and we all decided on BBQ for lunch Saturday. I've never been to the Sonny in LC, but the drive thru was awesome. Ordered the feast for four. Very good, large amount of food for 50.00. Ordered and waited 5 minutes for the food to be brought out. Sonny's around the state have been hit or miss for me. I never go in with real high expectations. In this case, food was great and service was wonderful. My mom even liked it!! read more

I ordered the chopped brisket sandwich which was filling but could've done without the double buttered bun as I declined their garlic bread for that same reason. Quick service for a family of 8, variety of options for my non-beef/pork eater, generous portions. The coleslaw will make your grandma proud. It's crunchy and not to sweet or salty. Try any of the meats with the Sizzlin spicy sauce (still very mild). You can easily split a lunch sandwich or dinner plate with a guest. read more

The last time I went to Sonny's, I had the sliced brisket which was dry and not very good. I vowed to not order that again. Today I took the family there for lunch, and remembering that the sliced brisket was dry, I ordered the chopped brisket, which was described as having some fat. What I got was a serving of blobs of fat... there wasn't a piece of meat on the plate; I was served a plate of fat. It was absolutely inedible and completely disgusting. I called for the manager, showed it to him, and had it removed from the bill. Needless to say, I am all done with Sonny's. They're two for two....two visits and two terrible experiences. It was quiet inside, lost of staff but very few customers. It was 11:10 am. So how long you think that took? About 15 minutes. First, these are "dish up" items. Second, there's a drive-thru window, so it ain't like they're slow to create ambience or something. Food was a keen reminder of why you should avoid chain bbq restaurants - deeply average and uninspiring stuff. I'm giving this particular location 4 stars because the customer service is exceptional; they're very friendly and enthusiastic. They won me over with their mac and cheese. I absolutely love it! Come for the meat and skip almost everything else! And definitely definitely show up for the meat. The ribs were large juicy and meaty - we enjoyed both the regular sweet barbecue and the dry rub. All of the meat products were super tender and delicious. They had for barbecue sauce is on the table but only one was really good. A family of four was able to eat all we wanted and take a little back home for around $48 including tip. read more
