Pretty cool spot, lots of history and neat decor. Food was ok. Nothing I'm gonna dream about but a plenty good enough place to return to for fun. Seafood was ok, my wife's hamburger steak was better. Appetizer was shrimp in a sweet chili sauce that just did not work well. Waiter was awesome. This was a hidden gem we happened upon traveling with our dogs from Tallahassee to St. Augustine. We wanted somewhere sit-down that our doggies could join us. Not only did they get to come in to the enclosed patio/family area, but they loved the fries! My husband and I were pleasantly surprised by the portion size and food quality. This is probably the best restaurant in Live oak FL. I'd say the food is good however the time it takes to get the food was ridiculous. The waitress was great and told us up front how long it would be. This is still something they need work on. 1 hour for an entree is not normal at any restaurant. The full bar also has a really fun list of mixed drinks, plus frozen cocktails & a modest wine list. We stopped in for a late lunch & enjoyed splitting the fried mushrooms with a horse radish/mustard dipping sauce that wasn't super hot or spicy. From the time we arrived on a Friday night at 7:30 it was a bad experience. At 9:45 she finally brought us our checks, it took OVER TWO HOURS to be seated, order, and get our food. the menus even say to expect a 30-60 minute wait and they mean it and then some. the food was good, but not two hour wait good. The food was really good here. I got the double bacon cheeseburger , wife had the fried chicken sandwich and my daughter had a classic cheeseburger. All were great tasting came with good portions of fries and coleslaw. A little downside is it can be confusing as it's a table waited situation but you have to walk through two rooms (1 patio area and 1 bar) before you get to the restaurant and even then there was no host or signage to let you know where to go or what to do. We ended up flagging down somebody that looked like they might work there (no uniforms so we guessed) and asked. Also you definitely get a good Ole boy vibe here so I wouldn't suggest it if you mind people looking at your tattoos or green hair...also wouldn't suggest bad talking trump in there it might not turn out well. Fun atmosphere, good service, tasty food. The steak salad was well-made, with all the bleu cheese you could want, a bit overwhelming. Others with me enjoyed the wings and potato skins. This is our second time here, on the way to the Suwannee lights. Both times were busy. The service was good even though they seemed short staffed. The food was good and reasonably priced. Took about 30 mins but that was okay, they kept our drinks filled and kept checking on us. My mom had a mushroom burger and loved it. We had fried shrimp. They tasted fresh and the batter was good. The only strange thing is walking in. There wasn't anyone to greet us & It's kind of confusing with the enclosed patio. Just walk through the second door into the bar. We will be back next year. Walking in for the first time, I was a bit confused about do I seat myself or wait? People were seated and the entry was like an enclosed porch. I opened another door where people were sitting around a bar and there was other seating on the side. A woman told me to sit where I wanted so I chose the porch. I expected more salad beneath but it turned out great. The plate was served with three beautiful slices of tomato. I don't like tomatoes by themselves but I ate every bit of it. The chicken salad tasted wonderful. Hubby ordered the black and blue burger. The meat was very flavorful and there were chunks of blue cheese. Know that this is not a cloth table and napkins sort of place but it is good, solid food, served by polite people with smiles and good suggestions. I am glad we stopped here. We went in as a party of 8 at 7pm, and had to wait 40 minutes. Not bad for a busy night. We got sat and ordered our food at 8. We ordered 4 salads, a burger with fries, shrimp with rice, and chicken with veggies. The food took 50+ minutes to come out. It was good, but the amount of time that we had to wait for the food was absolutely ridiculous. Our server only came and checked on us twice while we were waiting for the food. A party of 3 who came in 20 minutes after us got their food before us and had to go boxes by the time we got our food. Good food, but the waiting time for it is absurd.
