Ok I don't mean to be rude but I gave Sonny's bar b que 2 chances .. and they were horrible! Their sauce isn't tasty and both times I visited the sides I ordered were old. My best friend and I made the 5.5 hour trip to Nicholasville from Ohio, to try Sonny's. Her late husband had told her stories of their food and we decided to go in honor of him on what would have been their 4th anniversary. My friend ordered a variety of meats and said they were all wonderful. As a vegetarian, I had the deep fried sweet corn, Mac n cheese, and fries dipped in sonny's sweet bbq sauce. The food was amazing. All the barbecue sauces were great. My favorite was the sweet. My friend enjoyed the sizzling sweet. Was worth the trip, and we will gladly stop again if we're ever down that way. read more

They were very busy. The hostess put our names on a wait list and said it would be a few minutes. Two other couples came in after us and we're seated immediately by another hostess. When I ask why that happened, I was told it was a mistake that she didn't know a wait list existed. We finally got seated. I went to the restroom. All but one toilet was stuffed with toilet paper and had not been flushed. There was toilet paper and paper towels throughout the bathroom on the floor with water in spots. Our food arrived and sadly, my BBQ pork sandwich didn't even have enough meet on it to cover the bread. The waitress did bring more pork. I highly recommend not going here when it's busy. Love SONNY'S! This is the place my daughter and I love to come to after a day out running errands, etc. She loves the Mac n' cheese and I'm in food love with the salad bar. Often get the AUCE dry rub ribs and have always had great portions (refills slightly smaller, but hey, they don't wanna go broke do they?, lol). They taste great, always hot. Unfortunately, there aren't any Sonny's restaurants in the north, so I'd gone two years without having it after I moved back home. I grew up in Jax , FL and Southern GA. Grew up on Sonnys. I was truly surprised at the quality of the food we ate today! Everything was hot and fresh, there was truly more than we could eat. All 5 of our party enjoyed the food. I had the classic sliced pork with fries and beans. Mmmmm when its done right it cant be beat. Other members had pulled pork sandwiches and turkey sandwiches , sliced brisket and smoked chicken. Several of us had salad bar. Everything was truly good, and i typically rip a place if its not! Salad bar was clean. We came at 2:30 pm , typically a place is a mess from the lunch rush and not clean yet. This place was spotless. Impressed with the workers and mngmt. Kudos to yall! We don't live anywhere near a Sonnys so its a treat now for us to eat there. We have been to many locations all across the Southeast. Sometimes we are let down with small portions and overcooked food thats not fresh! Not this time. This was a 5 star sonnys experience. Great Job! Great BBQ! I had the sliced pork, corn on the cob, baked beans, and cornbread. Everything was fantastic. The cornbread especially was great. They had 4 sauces: Sweet, Sizzling Sweet, Mild, and Hot. Very good sauce. Overall, it was great! read more

This was def not good, which I hate to say because we were really hoping it would be. I ordered a salad and it was obvious it had been sitting in the styrofoam container for a day of not two with the meat placed on top. It was soggy and just gross! My husband had the pulled pork sandwich and it was nothing great, he said the meat was dry, and that was still with sauce. The baked beans were gross and the Mac n cheese was disgusting, which is another huge disappointment because when you get bbq you want good sides!! This place is decent if you eat in. For the third time, we tried picking up and taking home food. What can I say? They are one of only a couple sit down joints in town...For the third consecutive time, the food was cold yet over cooked. Clearly the food they can't get rid of on site. We called them back tonight because a side item first did not come with any requested toppings and second tastes rancid. The manager, Jake, offered a solution; we can drive all the way back and pick up another side, then head home to eat our completely cold dinners. No thanks, Jake. We'll just head into Lexington for barbecue from now on. read more

My wife and I have eaten here on average about once every 2-3 months since they opened. For the last couple of years the food quality has become increasingly inconsistent. Perhaps every 3rd visit the brisket will be good. The rest of the time, it's fatty and unimpressive. We went today for lunch on Memorial Day. The food was not good. The service was the worst we had ever had. The floor was filthy. Here's the problem. Our area is bursting with new trendy restaurants, so competition is stiff. There is now lots of really good barbecue in the area. The location is not ideal and there have been a couple of failed restaurants there in the past. If a restaurant of any kind and particularly BBQ is going to survive in this market they better be on top of their game every day. Sonny's is not. Fundamentally, it's a great franchise and when good, it's great. We are just not going to roll the dice anymore to see what we get. Too bad. read more

I'm a huge fan of BBQ so I might be a bit bias here but I just love this place! My food is always cooked perfectly and it's always brought out in a timely fashion. Contrary to what I've read here, I don't think the prices are that high considering all that you get, I always leave with a to-go box! You should give them a try if you already haven't! read more
