I've had a hankering for Barbecue for three weeks and took care of that problem tonight in Nicholasville at their Sonny's BBQ. First, at 5:15pm the parking lot was almost empty! That raised a bit of concern for me. The staff was wonderfully prompt and attentive. They guided me through their menu to ease the anxiety of ordering. I ordered the "all you can eat" ribs and my wife the beef brisket. Then came a trip to the salad bar which was very diverse and stocked to the top. In a matter of minutes our main courses arrived...hot...nicely displayed...and an ample amount! Both meals were very good, a good value and makes me want to go back and try out their whole menu. Thursday Evening pretty busy there waited about 15 minutes before being seated . Server was good came took our drink order with couple minutes, we ordered 2 pulled pork sandwich's with fries but when the brought our order my daughter came out on Texas toast instead of bun that she ordered , the fries were warm at best and seemed like end of last basket when I asked about them was told they were just cooked !! Rather disappointed in Sonny's, today my wife ordered online; I got sliced brisket and sausage with baked beans and slaw and my wife ordered the sliced pork big deal meal with fries. We also got the loaded tots. My brisket came chopped not sliced, the sausage was completely dried out to the point that I threw it away, inedible . My wife didn't get fries although it's clearly written on the ticket. The only saving grace here is that the beans and slaw were delicious. I could have "kinda understood" had they been busy but they weren't. This Sonny's location (Nicholasville,KY) is very hit or miss. You never know if your meal will be good or bad. If you are looking for barbecue, Sonny's is a great place to go. All their bbq and sauces are delicious. They are never really crowded so you are in and out in no time. Their staff is always friendly and quick with service. Every time I have gone their restaurant is very clean, including their bathrooms. Another great option from here is doing their catering. It is a great deal and you can order it early and they give you instructions on how to heat it up. It tastes great when prepared this way. You can't go wrong getting your catering from her. I went here for the first time for a late lunch today. My husband had raved about this place but we hadn't been yet. I had the pulled pork sandwich with fries and sweet tea. The pork was really good, it comes without sauce so you can choose one from the options on the table. The fries were good too, had salt and pepper on them and weren't greasy. The sweet tea was perfect. I tried my husband's green beans and they were good too, kind of plain but fresh tasting. The restaurant was nice and clean with fun decor- cute American flag painted pig. Unbelievable! My fiance and I wanted Sonny's to cater our wedding and made an appointment to try the appetizers, but it turned out to be a big disappointment! The manager was very unprofessional!! He had nothing prepared for us to sample as requested. I also had my mother with us who came from out of state to check out the place and we were there less than 15 minutes with nothing to taste, and a poor performance by the manager on duty. I only visit Sonny's for the all you can eat BBQ for $16.99 and it gives you access to all the choices and 2 sides unlimited as well. My last visit was pleasant with good service and no major wait on food or refills. The taste and quality of the food were also good. None of it knocked my socks off but met the need for my cravings of BBQ. Their sides here leave a lot to be desired for me here. On this visit I carbed it up with Mac N cheese and French fries as it seemed the best choices with the offerings. Info have to say the best thing about my visit besides the brisket was they have switched to a huge drinking glass which holds plenty of whatever if you're a big liquid drinker like myself. Went here with a friend before a concert. Ordered the special, Chicken and Ribs for $9.99. The ribs were tender, easy to pull of the bone. Not messy either. The chicken consisted of a wing and breast. Very tasty as well. Meal came with either garlic bread or cornbread plus two sides. I choose the garlic bread; you get two pieces and they are fairly large. They'd make a decent sandwich. For the two sides I had corn-on-the-cob and mash potatoes. Your drink is large too. Last two times I was here I got the same waitress. She called me "Mom". It was her way of telling me I look old enough to be her mother. When I objected to being addressed that way, she told me she was talking to herself. Disrespectful and unashamed of it. I actually like this place BUT you have to know what to order. The pulled chicken is absolutely delicious! The chopped brisket is too but ask for lean and STRESS IT! If it's not....send it back. It will be. The cornbread is great if you like sweet cornbread and the baked beans are not bad but they serve you too many. Corn on the cob is standard but their butter is fluffy and adds to it.
