Edit: upon closer inspection of the burnt egg roll it appears to have some sort of slimy mold like residue. Please stay away as this could be potentially dangerous. In the photo look at the top of the burnt section for reference Ordered through the curbside today and when I got home I found my egg rolls to be burnt and no sauce. I called up to complain and the manager refused to speak to me. Only allowing one of the girls working curbside to speak to me. She offered me to drive back and correct the mistake but that's a 30 minute drive one way. I'm not spending an hour to get sauce and correct my egg rolls. My food will be cold once I get back. There only solution was to give me a free desert. Barbecue isn't really enjoyable when it's dry without sauce. So safe to say this meal is a waste. Placed a to go order, upon arriving home found that items were missing, tried calling for 2 hours, no one would pick up the phone. This is not the first time this has happened, we let it go before. We are overpaying for food we don't get. The sides now are so small they are not worth getting. $40 for about $10 worth of food. We are done with Sonnys, never again. I forgot that four years ago I had this same experience. Decided on dinner from Sonny's today and even had a coupon from mailer for $5 off purchase of $30 or more. Tried ordering online but no way to enter coupon. I called store directly and was told to order in app and there I could apply coupon. Downloaded app, made selections for order and again no way to apply coupon. Placed order and took coupon to inquire. Order was ready and asked about how to apply coupon and was told they had no way to apply (clickbait coupon) and was told next time to just come in and order which of course defeats purpose of ordering online or app to have ready on arrival versus going and ordering to wait in store. Was not going to complain so I gave coupon to a family waiting to be seated to use. Got home and again had one missing coleslaw from order. Attentive readers of my Yelpian wiseacreings may know I have had issues lately with BBQ. This may seem un-American, but these days much of what we have come to rely on as "American" is distinctly not so. But I digress. "Up North" BBQ, mostly, lately, has left me queasy and full of dining regret. I have been searching for a distinct reason for this malady, and have so far come up empty-handed. I've started every BBQ meal with enthusiasm and unbridled anticipation, only to regain the bridle by the end of the repast and loathe to part with the funds required by the tab. What the hell is the matter? Recently, we've mounted a trip to deepest Florida spending time with Family, and it's a tradition to chow down at Sonny's. With one fleeting exception, Sonny's has always been a fave, and free of the quease factor bemoaning me at other BBQ joints. The service is always cordial and efficient, the Ribs, Chicken, Beans, Garlic Bread and 'Taters are always top-notch. The damned ICED TEA is a step up fer chrissakes'. (More on that Iced Tea later) We weren't 90 minutes off the 'plane before we pulled into Sonny's for Lunch/Early Dinner. I haven't been to FLA. in a few years, so the new decor at Sonny's was a surprise, but I must say I was stepping lightly in fear the BBQ gremlin would rear its unwelcome head. Not this noche, Bubba. I did a combi plate of Baby-backs, Chicken and "Sliced Pork"; with ColeSlaw and Greenie Beanies on the side. No sauce from the Kitchen, I prefer to BBQ sauce at the table. Savaging the platter, I made fast work of everything, delighted at the fine taste and just-right portions. That great Iced Tea came in a huge glass-Don't know why most restos give you a relatively small glass of soft drink. Don't have to interrupt the feed flagging down the Waitron for a refill. The feared "quease" never appeared. Stopping to consider, I found the "smoke" quotient of the Sonny's offerings was not overt. It was definitely there, but not the forward element in the overall flavor. The Pork and Chix flavors were foremost, with the smoke as a "halo" that highlighted, not dominated. And THERE was the money. SO much Northern "Q" is smoke-heavy, which I realized is not among my favorite qualities. I've never smoked tobacco, finding it repulsive-tasting. Cigars, even less. THERE is the bugaboo haunting me on the flip side of most visits to Northern BBQ. Sonny's is apparently more interested in bringing out the flavor and quality of a long, easy trip in the heat rather than imparting the notes of a campfire. Back to the main course-The "Sliced Pork" was the surprise superstar of the plate. Nice and Porky, with just enough fat to be juicy and flavorful. The Sonny's sauces provided on the table are great for an occasional squirt. Not on the whole thing, all at once-it's a treat to mix it up between the tasty meat itself and the added "zhushz" of the sauces. Have to talk about the sides. Beans. The BBQ beans are maybe the best I've ever had-again, just the proper amount of smokiness, and nice bits of meat in there. Sweet but not dessert-sweet. Matches the meats perfectly. The Greenie Beanies are a Southern treat. Sometimes restos put the fat from the BBQ in with the greenies for flavor, and that adds up to an icky mouth feel. Sonny's here might put a portion of that in, but the beans are not an adipose mess. They are actually a nice light diversion from the richness of the meat. Wife had a baked potato which looked yummy. Absolutely FAB coleslaw-the creamy kind, but again, not so creamy that it's too rich against the meats. REALLY fine and pro service, too. Just "homey" enough to be warm, but not the overbearing phony "haimisch" you find at some places. Melissa was perhaps the best of the crew we encountered. All in, we ate at Sonny's 3 times while we in FLA. It was THAT good, and I'm not shilling for them one tiny bit. read more

When is a pound not 16 oz? At Sonny's BBQ in Orange City. Last minute decision to go through the drive-through & pick up brisket & ribs. Big mistake. Ordered a pound of sliced brisket and a full rack of ribs. Pleasant voice on the squawk-box cheerfully asked "sliced or chopped?" We asked for a pound of sliced - cheerful voice confirmed our order for "a pound of sliced brisket and a full rack of St Louis style ribs." We made the rookie mistake of not checking our order for accuracy and completeness before driving home. We got 5 slices of uber-lean brisket and 5 rib bones. Bone dry brisket wasn't even 8 oz & much too dry to eat without smothering in BBQ sauce - they sucked. The ribs were virtually devoid of meat. The bones would be called 'shiners' due to being trimmed so tight without leaving on any meat. Suck a bone. No chewing cause there wasn't any meat. Our bill was $41. We gave the cheerfully-voiced gal an $8 tip. We got screwed. No pound of brisket. No full rack of ribs. Lousy preparation. Dam. Trust your instincts - do not leave this Sonny's until you physically look at & confirm your order is what you ordered. Sucks for us. read more

5 stars, so obviously really love this Sonny's. The food is typical Sonny's menu, but here it has always been hot and fresh. We haven't eaten in the restaurant; we always pick it up because, you know, that whole COVID thing. Speaking of which, the employees are not only friendly and smiling, but they are all wearing masks and they keep everything clean. I feel safe eating takeaway from here. My husband and I never stray from what we order. He gets the large turkey dinner and I get the chicken (white meat) and ribs combo. He think the turkey is fabulous. My ribs are always nice and tender, and my chicken is well-cooked and nice and juicy. Baked beans - great. Corn on the cob - great. Mac and cheese - great. I've used this place for catering and take out. For catering, you need to order in advance. They deliver it, with sternos etc and set it all up for you. They even include silverware, napkins and plates. The food is always delicious. My favorites are the pulled pork, the corn bread muffins, baked beans, fried okra, mac and cheese, and the ribs. They include all of their sauces in plastic packets that you can keep in the fridge for later use, if you don't devour them all. The sliced turkey breast is ok. I was hoping for a whole turkey, carved. The brisket is standard. Not the best. It can be a bit dry, but at least it's not super fatty like 4Rivers, so you get your money's worth. The green beans are probably not vegetarian. The beans certainly are not. The broccoli likely is. They have sweet and unsweet tea, as well as lemonade in big jugs. I called in to Sonny's to order to go food, I told him that I wanted two sliced pork dinner meals. As we were driving off, we saw that we had pulled pork instead of sliced. Way to pay attention, (on top of that my husbands name is Harold, and they said that the persons name was Carol on the receipt ) After speaking with the general manager and saying that we already touched the food, we might as well give it to someone in the family that might want something to eat, she said they would rather throw the food away there to let me give it to a lesson needy person. Let's take it to consideration that number one, it was their fault that they got the order, wrong, and the name wrong. And number two given the climate of today's world, throwing away two whole dinners with two sides attached is a waste of energy, protein, or whatever else you can say about it All for the sake of correcting my meal. The manager said that it is not her choice, but her bosses choice, which I then proceeded to say, have your boss call me so that I can explain what it is, that I'm saying, she refused to give me their contact information, and she refused to take mine. Where to begin! This past Thursday, June 6, my fiance and I lost our apartment duplex to some reckless driving teenagers who drove the car into my own totaling it and into our living room. Thankfully no one was injured. Friday evening we stopped at this Sonny's. We had been dealing with phone call after phone call and sleepless nights. We wanted a nice meal and Vickie and the staff of Sonny's delivered. Braydon was the manager on duty and was beyond friendly and helpful. I cannot praise this Sonny's enough and would visit again in a heartbeat. The food was spectacular, and it was nice and quiet. The bun on the brisket sandwich was hard and the fries were very undercooked and greasy.. my mom ordered the turkey sandwich, The bun was also hard on her sandwich and the meat was dry. My uncle ordered the pork platter, The ribs he got were burnt We came because he wanted to get the sliced pork and they brought him two things of pulled pork. Food is usually good but you absolutely have to dine in. Anything you get to-go or order online and pick it up will be soggy, cold, and almost certainly have something wrong or missing. I highly recommend never ordering anything by phone or online to pick up. It will not end well. Drive thru is very slow also and usually has mistakes. If you can sit and dine-in the food is fresher and pretty good and I would give it 3-4 stars. The ambience is basic but service is good. read more

I love Sonny's sliced pork, with BBQ beans and broccoli. Their broccoli is surprisingly good. Sonny's sliced pork is usually more moist than the competition, and has more taste than the competition, so it's my favorite. For fun, I like to make a BBQ bean sandwich using the garlic bread they provide. Put a nice helping of BBQ beans on the garlic bread butter side, fold it, and enjoy. Try it, you might just like it. :) I've tried the redneck egg rolls, they're just okay. I made the mistake of attempting to make a meal out of just the redneck egg rolls, not such a great idea. After eating the third one, I really didn't want anymore. Better as just and appetizer. This Orange City location is a pleasant place to eat, the service is always friendly and helpful. I know everyone is short staffed but it just seemed like everyone was wandering since half of the seating was shut down.
