The whole place gives off a fun, lively New Orleans vibe -- from the decor and music to the friendly energy from the staff. I had the fish and chips and they were awesome really delicious huge chunks of fish in a tempura crest, light and crunchy with wedged potatoes that were really crispy and moist inside. Excellent! My server was Wesley and he was very good. He should smile a little more often was the only advice. I had a side of their rice and red beans and it looked like it been around a while cause it was pretty dried out so I didn't even eat it. I tried a couple of bites but couldn't get it down. The Cook was Walt and he had that fish and potatoes cooked perfectly. They could not have been any better. I am definitely going back. read more

Another amazing lunch at Fire on the Bayou! I tried something different today, a catfish dish with seared shrimp and "dirty" rice. It was absolutely to die for. Our waitress was attentive and very helpful with our plate modifications, and was kind enough to make us a drink to go. My last visit was several years ago and thought it'd give it another go. I've gone a handful of times and haven't been very impressed. Unfortunately I think I'm done trying. Credit where credit's due, it's a neat space and the staff are nice. But the food is just not worth a return trip. We had the boudin ball appetizer which were fried hard outside but a bit mushy inside and quite salty. The pepper jelly it was served with definitely helped temper the salt but it just didn't really spark any excitement as a whole. I've eaten boudin alone and much prefer it that way. The crawfish étouffée was delicious and had perfectly cooked crawfish tails which were plentiful. The Taste of NOLA is a great option to try three iconic Cajun dishes - but only one was worth eating. The jambalaya was still a bit salty but nicely seasoned and everything was cooked well from tender shrimp to andouille sausage coins with crispy edges. The red beans and rice had a bitter taste not quite vinegary but similar and no smoky, unctuous flavor that I'm used to. It might be because the andouille is served on top and not cooked in with it? Finally, the gumbo was inedible due to an off flavor, almost acrid? I've made roux before and it's almost like the oil was off or a spice was added too early and burned. When the waiter asked how things were I pointed out my concerns and he said he'd see what he could do. The bill came and nothing was done. We paid, tipped him well (food wasn't his fault) and left. It's disappointing because we don't have a lot of unique cuisines in our area. Plenty of people have high praise for this place so maybe it's just my personal tastes in play here. I'd say do give it a shot and make your own opinion. Maybe their burgers and po boys are excellent? read more

I took my mom here because she loves bread pudding and I used to absolutely hate bread pudding. My whole entire life, well 40 years in, I ran into their bread pudding here and they made me a believer. Now, my mom finally had a chance to taste all that I've been raving about and she said it should be a crime to have bread pudding that taste that good. She's not going to order any other bread pudding for anyone else from now on. Everything was amazing and had so much flavor. I'm surprised that any place in Orange City has this much flavor. First time here at the Bayou and I say it was very good!! It's a really small restaurant but it was very cozy. The food was fantastic. I had gumbo for the first time and definitely want to get back there and have more. My wife had the voodoo tacos and they were delicious and also the gator bites can't be left out. Our server was very friendly and did a great job especially with pretty much doing most everything by herself. The wait for the food was reasonable and no complaints here as well. Fire on the Bayou is an incredible Cajun restaurant that deserves your attention and business. I was in the area, so I decided to stop by and have lunch, given how good the reviews were. I do not regret it at all; everything was great, from the food to the service. I ordered Gumbo, Root Beer, and 3 Beignets. The Root Beer was exceptional, definitely something I would recommend getting. They carry Abita brand Root Beer, so the quality and flavor is great. The Gumbo was absolutely incredible. The flavors melded so well together, and the sausage was delicious. The rice that is served with the Gumbo is freshly prepared, and complements the Gumbo exceptionally well. It's absorbent like Risotto Rice, while having its own subtle flavor. The texture of the rice adds to the Gumbo as well, making it a little more thick if desired. It was also served with French Bread, which was a great side to the Gumbo. It was fluffy, tasty, and was great at absorbing the flavors of the Gumbo when dipped. The Gumbo was about $12, which is well worth it when considering both the quality and quantity. I was very hungry, but I couldn't even finish the serving (and I really tried to). I ended up bringing it home. Frankly, you could probably split one Gumbo for lunch, but even if you don't, you'll definitely have something to take home. I also order Beignets, to go. I wasn't planning on getting any, but the Gumbo was so good, I figured they would be too. They sell them in multiples of three, so I just got three and brought them home to share. Now I wish I bought more. The crispness of each layer of dough - while still allowing for pockets of air between them - paired with the sugary flavor was a killer combo, really everything you're looking for in Louisiana-style Beignets. The chocolate sauce that comes with them is strong, but not overpowering, and has enough complexity that it doesn't subsume the flavor of the dough. After everything, I paid about $23 before tips. That's not bad at all for a massive serving of incredible Gumbo, specialty Root Beer, and some Beignets. The ambiance of the place is nice, it's what you'd expect from a Cajun joint location with the wall art and whatnot. It's a calm, comfortable environment with some nice art and nice tables/chairs, basically a perfect lunch spot. The service was also excellent, the one waiter was a cool guy who gave some nice recommendations and was quick with bringing food/boxes/checks. I wholeheartedly recommend Fire on the Bayou, I will certainly be eating there again when I'm back in the area. read more

I was not prepared.. for the level of flavor in this food. I actually placed a pick up order. However, when I went in, I was mad that I did a pick up order and that I wasn't staying I was greeted by almost every server walking the floor to make sure that I was helped. They were all incredibly kind. I noticed the chef in the back going to town and putting his heart into everything he was doing. I promise you this is exactly what it tastes like. The most difficult thing I had to do was not open the packaging until I got home. :) When I said nothing was just disappointing. Not only was every flavor on point, there was enough food to last me a few days! Portions are very generous. Even the kids meal was generous and not too spicy for my nine-year-old. She absolutely loved it! We got her the fried fish kids dinner and she said it was awesome! My husband got a fish basket and I got the shrimp tacos. I had to put the voodoo sauce on the side because I'm a little bit of a spicy wimp. It was so delicious. I couldn't stop eating it and then chasing it for something to stop the heat, lol. Even though some of it is spicy, it actually has wonderful flavor. It's got kick, but it's nothing we couldn't handle. I could literally eat this all week. What a great dining experience! The food was incredible! I had the Jilly bucket which had crab legs, shrimp, sausage and corn, in the Bayou Love sauce with a side of the Burnin love - what AMAZING FLAVORS! The crab was so fresh, it pulled out of the shell without breaking, the shrimp was perfectly cooked and sweet, the sausage was so flavorful and the corn was so juicy. What a great price also! I had a side of red beans and rice just to take home for lunch tomorrow but I ended up eating half! My waitress Amber was absolutely the best. She greeted me at the door, which is nice when you are dining alone. She was so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and recommendations which were spot on! She was back frequently - and anything I needed was delivered so fast, she always kept an eye on me. Overall, I just love this place, I wish I lived closer - I would go all the time. Okay this may be my new favorite spot for Cajun pasta! I just landed back home from the sfb airport. I was craving pasta and my parents wanted seas food. So I did my yelp research and came across this restaurant. It's very cute and is in a residential area. Our server Wesley was amazing to us and radiated such positive energy. The onion rings were perfect, they're big but it's not filling so you can enjoy your entree. I already want to go back and have the pasta again. My parents enjoyed their food. Stopped in for some Cajun food and wanted to try some gator for the first time. My girlfriend and I both enjoyed our food, the appetizers was definitely our favorite though. The best fried mushrooms I've ever had and some great Gator bites paired with delicious dipping sauces. The food portions are ginormous and I thought I'd be able to finish my Taste of NOLA dish but I only got about halfway done. The Gumbo was my favorite, then the Jambalya, and the rice and beans last. But the rice and beans was still delicious so don't let that turn you off. The Cajun pasta with shrimp was also super good, the sauce was a little thin and watery (I prefer more thick) but great nonetheless. The staff was super friendly and attentive to refills or anything else and I'd love to eat here again without a doubt.
