2 Fish, 6 Shrimp, Fries, Okra, and Hush Puppies - all fresh and crispy
    Joe S.

5 Stars for this Captain D's location. It was my first time dining at a Captain D's. I was in Deland and wanted to grab something quick so I could get back to Orlando. The staff was awesome, very patient with me as I asked about the different combos and what came in them. I ordered the 2 fish and 6 shrimp meal and added a piece of catfish and it came to just over 10 bucks with tax. Great deal in my book. I sat in the sparkling clean dining room and waited for my meal. She brought me the food on a non-disposable plate and it was all piping hot and crispy. Was happy I could dine inside! The fish was battered nicely and was so crispy crunchy delicious. Dipped in the malt vinegar, it took me back to my younger days at the other seafood fast food joint. The shrimp weren't overly breaded and were a nice addition to the meal. The fries were fresh as was the fried okra as a premium side. The hush puppies were indeed hush puppies (I never liked them and still don't) so people usually love eating at these places with me as they get my hush puppies. The catfish was a nice thick piece of fish with a different batter than the fish. I did like how everything was not in the same batter. Some fried platters have everything tasting the same. Both the manager and cashier asked me how I liked everything and on my way out, the cook was there too and I thanked all of them for a great meal. They were all so friendly. That goes a long way in my book!

Good quick fish sandwiches! The portion was a good size for the price and was very tasty! Not too spicy like I was expecting but still a delicious fish sandwich that was not lacking flavor!

Southern style white fish with green beans and cole slaw

This was my very first time eating at a Captain D's. Hard to believe, I know. I've always been a strong believer that seafood shouldn't be eaten at fast food joints. However, the captain of the D's has changed my mind! The one and only thing that was impressive about this place was the fish. I had the southern fried white fish and despite my fears, it wasn't fishy at all, and probably more importantly, no bones! I just couldn't get enough of it. This location lost a star due to their sides. I had the green beans and the cole slaw, both of which I didn't like. The cole slaw was entirely too sweet and the green beans were bitter and tasted old. Overall, not too bad! I think next time, I'll just order the fish.

Since there aren't any Captain D's anywhere near me in Orlando, we stop here every time we're headed north. The service is great, the food is very good, and the price is very friendly. This place is several cuts above your usual fast food joint in many ways. Any comparison to the other fried fish chain will make the other one look bad, so I won't go there. You should go here if you crave some quick, inexpensive fried white fish. They have shrimp and chicken too, but fish is what they're about. The place is clean, and its easy to get in and out. D's serves COKE, not Pepsi, another plus in my book. Check out their website for specials and coupons and sign up for a free meal on your birthday!

Good for the price! Pretty average. Would like to see the place redone (interior and exterior) but as far as food goes pretty good!

The ambiance was inviting, stylish, and felt like the perfect setting for a weekend experience with friends. The food overall was good. The shrimp and grits were definitely the highlight for me full of flavor and well done. The steak, however, wasn't my favorite and didn't quite hit the mark. The fruit bowl was exactly that fruit in a bowl nothing special but fresh. The banana pudding was delicious and a sweet way to end the meal. The service was a bit inconsistent, which I believe was due to the waitress being very busy. There were a few moments where we waited longer than expected for menus, straws, or even water. While noticeable, it didn't completely take away from the experience and felt more like a staffing issue than a lack of care. Overall, I would absolutely return for brunch with friends. The atmosphere alone makes it worth another visit, and with the right company, it's a great spot to enjoy a relaxed and beautiful brunch experience.

For appetizers, we tried the coconut shrimp, Table tots, spinach dip, and charcuterie. Everything was fantastic except the shrimp, which were a bit overcooked. The rest of the starters were flavorful and well prepared. Most of our group ordered the NY strip since they were out of the filet, while others chose the meatloaf, mushroom pasta, and a few other dishes. Portions were generous and the food was tasty. While the strip wasn't the best I've had, it was cooked perfectly. Dessert was a bit hit or miss. We tried all the pies -- most were decent and nicely presented, though nothing stood out. The salted caramel cheesecake had a grainy texture rather than being smooth. Service was friendly, but a little rushed. Courses came out too quickly, making it hard to enjoy each one before the next arrived. The table became crowded with plates, and the pace felt chaotic at times. The server was kind and seemed possibly overwhelmed. Overall, a good meal with solid food, but pacing and a few execution details could use some attention.

Once you understand that this is a restaurant founded in 1959, housed in a former two story home originally built in 1951, you may come to appreciate the history and understand the vibe. It is truly amazing that this historic restaurant has survived in 2026. I happen to like the uniqueness and honestylye-feel, as if you're at someone's grandma's house. There is plenty of parking directly behind the restaurant and a small lot in ftont of the restaurant. There's parking along the side too. I enjoy the beautiful plants and flowers surrounding the restaurant. Honestly, they can make for a nice photo on a good day. Upon entering, if it's busy, like on Sunday afternoons, you'll find that you'll receive a little card with a number on it. After waiting and listening for your number to be called, you'll be seated. Check the website before you go... You'll be prepared for the hybrid meal service. Some things are served to you at the table and are not unlimited, like soups and desserts. Some things are self-serve and unlimited, like the old-fashioned salad bar and hot vegetables. A server will hand-carve your choice of meat for you. Just "know-before-you-go" by taking a quick glance at the website. Is it five star food? No. Is it just homey country style cooking? Yes. They serve lunch and dinner. They are supported by generations of locals. Lots of people like to celebrate their birthday here. If you bring at least 3 friends to help you celebrate, you'll dine for free. Contrary to many reviews, I've never experienced or seen rudeness. In fact, I've seen staff taking the time to be friendly to guests. When coming here, you can't be super picky about the food - it's not a five star restaurant. Yes, the green beans may be from a can. It's okay, you'll survive! Enjoy the unique experience!

We didn't even stay after reading the menu and that says everything. They advertise it as a "buffet," but it's completely misleading. You're still paying for protein items if you want seconds, so it's not a true buffet at all. Feels like a bait-and-switch the second you look at the menu. The setup was confusing, the vibe was off, and honestly it didn't feel worth sticking around to figure it out. If you're expecting a traditional buffet experience, this is not it. Lovely Easter Brunch on the Patio…read more We came here for Easter brunch and had a really nice experience. I called about 45 minutes before arriving just to see if there was any chance we could get a table. They mentioned they were only taking reservations that day but were kind enough to squeeze us in for 1:30, which worked out perfectly. Raven was our waitress and she was wonderful. Super welcoming, friendly, and attentive the whole time without ever feeling overbearing. My husband and I shared a Caesar salad and the steak and eggs, and of course we had to order mimosas (two each... because brunch ). Everything came out fresh and tasty. One small personal preference, and this might just be me, but I would have liked the Caesar salad lettuce to be chopped a bit smaller instead of the larger pieces. Not a deal breaker at all, just something I noticed. The steak was cooked well. I wouldn't say it was the best steak I've ever had, but it was definitely good. What really stole the show for me was the chimichurri sauce. I could honestly eat that by itself with the potatoes, it was that good. We sat on the patio and were a little worried it might be too hot, but it was nicely shaded and they have fans going, so it was actually very comfortable. The only time we got a little warm was after our second mimosa... but that might be on us Overall, it was a great experience and we'll definitely be back.
