I am a BBQ fan and a regular customer of Sonny's. Say what you will about the new Q in town but Sonny's consistently delivers tasty food at very reasonable prices. I take advantage of their deals. Recently though there are a couple things that disappointed me. They implemented an app administered by a third party. It is used to deliver the deals and I have had a couple glitches. Sonny's staff was nice and helped me after I showed them some proof. I get that it is a way to prevent people abusing coupons and deals but sometimes it gets in the way of people who just want to order online and eat. Another plus is that they add some new menu items at regular intervals. I like that you get some variety besides sliced or pulled. Generally I like to sample new menu items but the seasonal skillet potatoes sidekick was a letdown. I LOVE hash brown casserole and this had me anticipating moist cheesy potatoes. Instead I got hash browns that tasted like they literally came out of a box or bag. There was cheese but the topping seemed to be croutons or bread cubes/crumbs that were very dry. I am glad this side is for a limited time, because for me the season is over. Bring back the pork 3 ways special. I will still order a Sonny's big deal any day of the week before I get a fast food meal. My favorite to eat in the restaurant is the pit master combos which is make your own combo. The staff was super friendly and made sure we had all the sauces we requested, plus plenty of plasticware for our shared plate. Sonny's BBQ is a chain of barbecue restaurants founded on April 17, 1968, by Floyd "Sonny" Tillman and his wife Lucille on Waldo Road in Gainesville, Florida. In 1977 they started franchising restaurants with their popular menu of barbecue pork, beef, ribs, chicken, beans and sides. By 1988 there were 77 restaurants across 6 states. In the 2000's Sonny's was the largest barbecue restaurant chain in the United States but in 2008 Sonny's suffered a recession and closed a number of restaurants. They bounced back and today there are over 100 locations. Fun fact, the restaurant celebrates Sonny Tillman's birthday every August 14th. After visiting the Goodwill in this plaza we headed over to Sonny's for lunch. I used to go to the one in Pompano all the time with family but sadly they closed years ago. Entering Sonny's brought back great memories. They have a rustic wood decor with a bar, booths, and tables great for casual dining. On weekdays they have a lunch special for every day of the week and I think we got the best one on Thursday. For $12 you can get a pork and rib combo with pulled or sliced pork, sweet and smokey or house dry ribs, 2 sides, and corn bread or garlic toast. We both ordered the special and it did not disappoint. The pork was tender and the ribs were succulent while the portions were generous. I like the sweet barbecue sauce but wish they had a mustard based sauce too. Along with our ribs and pork we had fries, sweet potato with cinnamon sugar, and slaw. I especially love their garlic bread. Service was attentive and we had so much food that we ended up taking leftovers with us. The Sonny's lunch specials are a great value but even if you can't make it, their normal prices are still very reasonable when you are in the mood for hearty, down home barbecue. I am glad I got to revisit an old favorite where we could leave full without breaking the bank. Don't forget the sweet tea! read more

A good place to eat barbeque near the Florida Mall This Sonny's BBQ is located right off the east side of SR 441 in Central Florida, just southwest of downtown Orlando, Florida and just north of the Florida Mall. This restaurant is part of the well-known Sonny's chain that started in Gainesville in 1968. This location delivered on the brand's reputation for solid barbecue and good, efficient, and friendly service. The building is easy to spot and has plenty of parking around the sides and back. It was a little tricky to get to since the parking lot to the south of the restaurant did not connect with their parking lot. Inside, the atmosphere is classic new Sonny's design. The seating is mostly booths with some larger tables to the back. We were greeted quickly by a friendly hostess and seated in a booth, which seems to be the default at most Sonny's locations. The service was efficient from start to finish. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich and french fries with a tea for the drink. All of the food came out hot and fresh within minutes. The meat was tender and flavorful, especially when topped with Sonny's signature sweet sauce (my favorite). For a full meal and drinks, the price came out under $35 for two people, which is a good price for a sit-down barbecue restaurant. All in all, this Sonny's lives up to the high standards of the chain--reliable, tasty, and budget-friendly. A great stop for a good meal near the mall. read more

I was the first customer arriving for lunch dining and was greeted with a nice welcoming smile. It had been more than ten years since my last visit to any Sonny's location, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that many of my favorite items were still available. I chose the Pick-3 meat combo and two of my selections were excellent in all ways possible. The side of cole slaw was very fresh and a generous serving. The garlic bread and fries were enjoyable as well. I tried all of the BBQ sauce varieties on the table, and that made for a different experience when even trying the same item. I'm sure there is a good business reason, but I would suggest that when starting the day don't put all dining customers directly next to each other in adjacent booths. Although there is/was only one server handling all for a while, it might be nice to have a space of one empty booth between those occupied for a little while. I can easily recommend this Sonny's location to any who might be in the area, and I intend to return myself soon. read more

When at lunch with a small work group of five people total. We were set right away and the service was decent. It did take a while for us to get our drinks refilled and for them to bring us napkins. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my meat was cold and my sauce was gross. It could've been because it was possibly left just waiting. They were very busy at this time and our food was not served at all at once. With that being said, the waitress did fix me a new sandwich which came out quickly and was hot. July 18/2025: Dinner with my Al. This wasn't a particularly good or bad BBQ Meal. The place was pretty quiet for a Thursday evening. My appie was the "Loaded Tots" ($9.29), they were delicious. Hot, crunchy & brought back so many fond memories. My main was the "Pork 3 Ways" ($17.99). This was pork ribs, pulled pork & smoked pork. The ribs had that "reheated protein" taste & they were only ok. The pulled & smoked were the most tasty of the three. The meal came with baked beans (very tasteless) & coleslaw again tasteless. The other side dish was cornbread. It was the lowlite of the meal. Baked in a muffin cup & it was terrible. Stuck to the muffin cup & was sticky & terrible. Our server was Robert Ihnat. Robert was nice, polite & knowledgeable about the menu. He delivered solid service & we tipped him 20% of the bill for the added effort. P.S., the unsweetened ice tea was delicious. Well that's not normal in KC but I have to say, that really took Sonny's tender, juicy pork sandwich up a notch! Wow! I can say I would absolutely order that again! If you are offering a special on Wednesday's with sliced or pulled pork Big Deal for $5.50 and ribs & pork for $10 make sure cook enough as you know you'll be busy. We arrived just after 7 and the server let us know they were out of pulled pork but had ribs back. Three of ordered the sliced pork and ribs. About 7:40 the manager stops by to let us know they were out of sliced pork also, but substituted a different meat in place of the pork. Went to Sonny's for the "Big Deal" special during the month of May on Wednesdays. The sliced pork was delicious. It is served on garlic bread, beverage and a side included for $6.00. Sonny's BBQ is my number one stop EVERY time I come home to visit and this location makes it super easy for your girl to get off a plane and book it down to Sonny's approximately 3 mins down the road. Everything was exactly how I remembered it, their sauce options are next level. Nothing can compare to their sweet bbq sauce, I'm obsessed. The cook and smoke on their meats are perfect and sides are just unmatched. I love their crinkle cut fries and garlic bread. I already can't wait to come back. Some days I just really crave the sizzling sweet sauce from this place hahaha. There are plenty of restaurants to go to but conveniently I was passing by on my way back from the mall so of course I answered the call. I went through the drive thru to order which did take about 5 minutes before someone responded...which I gave the benefit o the doubt because they're understaffed. For our meals we got the sliced pork sandwich on garlic bread of course, and the sliced brisket sandwich. By far the best thing that Sonny's has is that freakin lemonade!! This is a higher rating than I would normally give to Sonny's but this is the newest, cleanest one I have been in. The service was really good, our server was prompt and efficient and friendly. It was Mother's day and it was crowded but we only waited a few minutes. I came here because my son and I were on a road trip, we have no Sonny's in our South Florida area and we like it. We both had all you can eat pork, but we only (one of us) had a second helping of pork. The first plate was plenty. I am from out of town but every time I come to Florida I go to Sonny's on S OBT in Orlando Fl. I have been going to this establishment for 30 years, way back when I used to live in Orlando. Now that I live on the West Coast I come to Florida twice a year. I love this BBQ . The smoked meats are so tasty and all the sides are great. Crinkle cut fries and their coleslaw is the bomb. Well, it's gone downhill since COVID and isn't nearly as clean at this location as others. But the food is still good and the price acceptable. Our server however, was swamped as there were 2 servers for the whole place and at least 10 tables for each of them. Too lax, too few employees, but at least the "pit-masters" are still putting out good food. Sweet Carolina sandwich with a little extra sweet sauce to compliment the delicious cole slaw, and perfectly crispy fries helped! We did have to ask a couple of times for items, and I went up to the counter and finally got what I has requested. I mean how difficult is to bring a small bowl of sliced lemons for tea and water? My other half loves sonnys and will make any excuse. With current conditions the tables were definately spaced very well. We got our typical plates that we order. Their food always comes out fairly quickly and is delicious. Love their sweet bbq sauce. Thank you for the generous sized cups to swig down the sweet tea. :) Our waitress was very pleasant and we enjoyed her conversation. They are taking all precautions to keep everyone safe. This location has always been consistant for us on yje flavor and always gets the order right. I just wanted to lay there and take a nap after eating. We will definately be back. First time to try this location on the weekend with family . The place is full yet the dining experience was excellent!! The food we ordered were delicious and the waitress was nice. She came to table often to check on us and refill the drinks. The chicken wing was very good and seasoned and grilled very nice. The kids enjoy the macaroni cheese and said it was yummy. The BBQ rib was delicious and we like the food were delivered fast to the table. One of my favorite part was at the end of my meal, I enjoy the yummy corn bread which is very fresh and taste so good . The price overall is reasonable , today we find out that this is a good restaurant to be with family. We will be definitely be back soon to visit ! So we enjoy this location and have been here several times throughout the years. They are located right off of OBT and the area is definitely a touch rough, but this location itself is solid. We are always greeted by staff as soon as we walk in and seated within a short wait. We've had nothing but friendly service here regardless of who we have for a server. The corn nuggets are always a must order appetizer - and do NOT skip the powdered sugar. It may sound odd, but I promise it is delicious! I almost always get the BBQ chicken platter, which is a half chicken with two sides and cornbread or biscuit. I prefer their cornbread, but nothing wrong with that biscuit. We are usually too full to grab dessert here, but they do have some good banana pudding for those southern food enthusiast that love an authentic dessert of the south.
